"It is not a conflict between Russia and Georgia. It is a conflict between Russia and the United States. The United States, in fact, attacked Russia with Georgian hands."
Russian State Duma Deputy Sergey Markov

“But if the middle space [Russia and the former Soviet Union] rebuffs the West [the European Union and America], becomes an assertive single entity, and either gains control over the South [Middle East] or forms an alliance with the major Eastern actor [China], then America’s primacy in Eurasia shrinks dramatically. The same would be the case if the two major Eastern players were somehow to unite. Finally, any ejection of America by its Western partners [the Franco-German entente] from its perch on the western periphery [Europe] would automatically spell the end of America’s... game on the Eurasian chessboard...that would probably also mean the eventual subordination of the western extremity to a revived player occupying the middle space [e.g. Russia].”

Venezuela Expels Human Rights Watch Director for “Meddling Illegally”
James Suggett -
Sept. 19, 2008
Mérida, September 19, 2008 ( The Venezuelan government expelled two employees of the U.S-based NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW), Americas Director José Miguel Vivanco and Americas Deputy Director Daniel Wilkinson, after the two presented a report that praised Venezuela's 1999 Constitution but harshly criticized the "government's willful disregard for the institutional guarantees and fundamental rights that make democratic participation possible." In a press release, the Venezuelan Foreign Relations Ministry said Vivanco and Wilkinson "have done violence to the constitution" and "assaulted the institutions" of Venezuela by "meddling illegally in the internal affairs of our country."

The ministry also said the HRW report is linked to the "unacceptable strategy of aggression" of the United States government. The ministry said the expulsion of Vivanco and Wilkinson was in the interest of "national sovereignty" and "the defense of the people against aggressions by international factors."...

9/19/8 Making Sense of the Crisis: Henry K. Liu, F.William Engdahl, Karl Marx & V.I. Lenin

We have pacified some thousands of the islanders and buried them; destroyed their fields; burned their villages, and turned their widows and orphans out-of-doors; furnished heartbreak by exile to some dozens of disagreeable patriots; subjugated the remaining ten millions by Benevolent Assimilation, which is the pious new name of the musket; we have acquired property in the three hundred concubines and other slaves of our business partner Sultan of Sulu, and hoisted our protecting flag over that swag. And so, by the Providences of God – and the phrase is the government's, not mine – we are a World Power Mark Twain

9/19/8 Making Sense of the Crisis: Henry K. Liu

Digest note: Readers know the mainstream media casts the monetary symptoms of this long-brewing, deep structural crisis of capital which finally erupted into public view, as the whole story. The news comes as an unfathomable shock to most people because this crisis has been disguised as isolated phenomena, bursting housing bubbles, downturns, etc.,to camouflage its systemic roots and nature, with its surface effects. Making sense of this irreversible crisis is critical.

Bolivia Versus the Empire Morales Sí, Secession No
By Patrick Irelan
Evo Morales is a patient man. After he was elected president of Bolivia in 2005, he set about in a peaceful and democratic way to liberate his country’s oppressed majority. That majority includes indigenous South American Indians, who make up over 55 percent of the population, plus a large proportion of the country’s mestizos, who constitute a total of 30 percent of the population. Morales himself is an Aymara Indian, the first indigenous president in the history of Bolivia. The remaining 15 percent of the population is as white as the faces you recently saw at the Republican National Convention. (Ethnic statistics courtesy of the CIA’s World Factbook.)

During the campaign, Morales and his Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) promised to distribute the country’s oil and natural gas revenue in a manner that would help the impoverished majority without sending the white minority into the poorhouse. He also wanted to institute land reform for the benefit of the landless peasantry. In a manner reminiscent of the Spanish latifundia, 5 percent of the producers owned 89 percent of the arable land. The poorest 80 percent owned a mere 3 percent of the land (Nidia Diaz, Granma, 12/7/2006). In Bolivia, it’s quite common for a wealthy family to own 30,000 acres or more. In the departments of Santa Cruz and Beni, a mere 14 families own three million hectares of farmland (Diaz). One hectare equals 2.47 acres. You do the arithmetic. The mainstream press in the United States sometimes calls these people “farmers,” which I assume is meant as a joke. Anyone with that much land isn’t a farmer. He’s a landlord or a land baron or the lord of the manor. This type of land ownership is medieval...

9/15 Haitian "Unrest" Feared; 8 million Pakistanis to Fight US; Latin America Rising Against U.S.Bolivia Coup Moves

Digest note: the explosive intensification of the U.S. capital crisis spreading across the world is still in its early stage. Despite wishful delusions and demagogic lies, the 'policy' bandaids recommended by all parties are part of the problem, not the solution.

This crisis will not lead to reduced spending for the global imperialist war, but to the only possible means of survival for u.s. capital: expanding its base for maximizing accumulation globally, despite failures and blowback so far that have deepened the crisis. There will be further military aggression, with tactical changes, to do what's essential: eliminate the major capitalist rivals and the mass resistance preventing a temporary resolution of this crisis by expanding u.s. hegemony.

This war around however, the unrivalled u.s. domination secured through WW2, is under fierce attack worldwide, the fascist GWOT reviled for what it is and resisted everywhere but the 'homeland'. The u.s. plan to maintain supremacy under the guise of 'power sharing' with other major rivals is seen for what it is -- a desperate move on the part of a dying, strategically weak empire -- and an opportunity for other capitalist states to assert their own independence from the u.s. and their growing collaboration with each other, as with Russia, China and Latin America.

Opposition by these rivals, any and all defeats for our common enemy and their weakening of u.s. imperialism-zionism, world enemy #1, is indeed welcome. But it is nevertheless capitalism uniting against the masses for its own good, necessarily at the peoples' expense. For fundamental, systemic change, we must unite against capitalist rule because in any language, in any country, capitalism, based on exploitation and oppression, is the root source of the horrors destroying humanity and the planet.

9/11/08 A Global Empire by Destruction, Terror & Death: 911 and the Great American Decline

Digest Commentary:
9-11-2001, its genesis, circimstances and consequences, is a searing but miniscule representation of the deadly impact of everything amerikan on the rest of the world.
Assessing whether 911 was an inside job is primarily a political, not technical, assessment: what is the geopolitical context, "who benefits"? It means taking into account the entire past as well as present violent history of american capitalism's white supremacist quest for 'manifest destiny'. Those who insist the U.S. govt. could never commit such a heinous crime reflect the inculcated popular ignorance of america's racist history, born and fattened on genocide, slavery and unprecedented crimes against humanity -- including manufactured pretexts for all its imperialists wars for global 'supremacy'. 911, like all other events, can only be understood in this context of past history and the present deep structural crisis of U.S. capitalism driving the bipartisan agenda to secure full-spectrum dominance before other major, now capitalist, powers -- China and/or Russia -- sink the U.S. hegemonic empire.

Neo-liberal imperialist democrat Zbigniew Brzezinski laid out the 'imperatives' for U.S. dominance in his 1997 THE GRAND CHESSBOARD: American Primacy and its Geostrategic Imperatives, tactically advocated more gunboat diplomacy than his 'neocon' imperialist successors who believed all-or-nothing-now militarily, whose global rampage has intensified the U.S. crisis and global resistance to its 'unipolar' thuggery.

Neoliberal or neoconservative, imperialists agree that U.S. capitalism's crisis and strategic weakness demands exceptionally drastic measures. Analyses of the individual 'trees' in the U.S. jungle must be framed in this context because what is at stake is the survival, or death, of U.S. capitalism...and thus the world and all of humanity.

9/9/8 Africa Rejects AFRICOM coordinating 'hard & soft' U.S. power; Nigeria: 'Hard' National Liberation vs. 'Soft' Imperialism

Digest note:
Africa is in the news again with reports of MEND's disruption of U.S. oil pillaging in Nigeria and Rice's trip to sell/salvage its rebuffed AFRICOM. The U.S. desperately needs to get control of the African continent in its state terrorist juggernaut for global domination. it has thousands of "humanitarian" USAID/NGO tentacles at work 'softly' cannibilizing Africa, along with mainstream media coverage, in 'humanitarian development' drag that most of the world knows first-hand means destruction and death.

This digest issue aims to expose 'strategic non-violence' and to contrast genuine national liberation with imperialist driven and dominated democracy/capitalist development. The U.S./NGO web is vast, labyrinthian and camouflaged, impossible to draw linearly, but crucial to understand and expose especially here where countless peace-justice activists jump on board eager to do what they believe will change the world for the better...'peacefully'.
Taking Nigeria as one important example, the 'dots' linking the 'soft' power adjunct to U.S. 'hard' power from Africa to Seattle, wa.
show as clearly as your editor could how this imperialist operation works.

Gustav pounds Jamaica, as death toll rises

Chaos, desperation from Hanna's floods in Haiti
Some 250,000 people are affected in the Gonaives region, including 70,000 in 150 shelters across the city, according to an international official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information. The official death toll rose to 61 Thursday as Hanna finally moved north with near-hurricane winds on a path toward the southeastern U.S. coast. But there was no way of knowing how many people might be dead in the chaos, or how many had been driven from their homes.
And forecasters warned that Hurricane Ike could hit the Western hemisphere's poorest country next week.Gonaives lies in a flat river plain between the ocean and deforested mountains that run with mud even in light rains. Hanna swirled over Haiti for four days, dumping vast amounts of water, blowing down fruit trees and ruining stores of food as it swamped tin-roofed houses.

Police state terror raids against suspected convention demonstrators suppressed by DNC and mainstream media...the same ones who bombarded us daily with allegations of Chinese state repression against protesters:
Massive police raids on suspected protestors in Minneapolis
Glen Greenwald
[updated below (with video) - Update II - Update III - Update IV]

Protesters here in Minneapolis have been targeted by a series of highly intimidating, sweeping police raids across the city, involving teams of 25-30 officers in riot gear, with semi-automatic weapons drawn, entering homes of those suspected of planning protests, handcuffing and forcing them to lay on the floor, while law enforcement officers searched the homes, seizing computers, journals, and political pamphlets. Last night, members of the St. Paul police department and the Ramsey County sheriff's department handcuffed, photographed and detained dozens of people meeting at a public venue to plan a demonstration, charging them with no crime other than "fire code violations," and early this morning, the Sheriff's department sent teams of officers into at least four Minneapolis area homes where suspected protesters were staying.

The Christian youth movement Battle Cry holds massive gatherings in stadiums and other large public venues all over America. The rallies are high-energy, high-concept, and driven by the frenetic musical beat of a shoot-em-up video game. Live “action figures” of Navy SEALs and other military paragons charge onstage, screaming to the crowd that they are proud “Christian warriors” and acting out scenes from “the war against Islamic Fascism” while they brief the stadium full of kids on their heroic future as part of the “battle plan for Jesus.”...
