commentary: IT'S WAR - WE NEED TO ENGAGE
Capital lives and grows by war, different kinds of war, war that must suck the blood and life out of 'us' worldwide or die. But the U.S. war for global hegemony has been a new, desperate type of imperialist war because if loses global supremacy to upcoming rivals and revolutions, U.S. finance capital is dead.

911 was the long-planned pretext and starting gun for a new phase and type of capitalist war against the masses of working and oppressed peoples and nations.
Now we are more directly the enemy. Yesterday's 'reds' became today's 'terrorists'. Bush speechwriters phrased the constant war m.o. succinctly: "If you aren't with us, you're with the terrorists"... 'us' as in 'US'.

US imperialist war is no longer to jsut defeat rival nations as with previous conventional world wars. It is now a ubiquitous, total *'constant conflict', 'preventive war' against potential threats, 'non-state actors', 'suspected terrorists', to conquer the world and us.

No more middle-ground. State terrorism declared war on all opposition or resistance. The official "GWOT"strategy in the 2002 United States Government, National Security Strategy of the United States codified the 'preventive counter-terrorism' strategy announced by Clinton in May 1998 Presidential Decision Directive (PDD) 62 with a National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counterterrorism .

The NSS 2002 blueprint spells out the terrorfying agenda Obama was hired to execute continuing and expanding the Bushwhacked regime's.
1998 Visions of Governance for the Twenty-First Century Catastrophic Terrorism: Elements of a National Policy, Philip Zelikow director, http://www.hks.harvard.edu/visions/publication/terrorism.htm

'We the people' are the real enemies in the U.S.' all-out, all-or-nothing global war for 'full spectrum dominance'. A war embedded in every nook & cranny of this system and society, exported to every continent, soft and hard power war, not just bombs, but maximum military might always ready. Capitalist war is class war and since imperialism is 'globalized' capitalism...we are at war 'over there' and here.

White supremacist amerika is made of war, ongoing genocide against Blacks and Indians in the 'homeland', endless fascist unjust slaughter of millions for imperialist 'national security'. Physical wars dependent on ideological war, racist fear and divisions of peoples and nations, poisonous shit spewed called news, education, religion, culture and entertainment, 24/7 barrage of free-speech class war state propaganda all to maximize U.S. power and profits - and prevent revolutions,

Fascism's friendlier - face war has turned U.S. capitalism's deep structural crisis into a major coup for finance capital: unknown trillions socialized into the working class debt, 'shopping discomfort' for the class-race privileged in the 'homeland', disaster for working and oppressed peoples and expanding destruction throughout Africa, Arab countries and Asia. Global state terror war for 'full spectrum dominance'. Obama said please call U.S. military aggression 'overseas contingency operations'.

Through war U.S. nation state capitalism outgrew its borders, globalized into imperialism, Conventional imperialist world wars against discrete nation states temporarily resolved structural capitalist crises by defeating rivals, restructuring and consolidating global capital under expanded U.S. hegemony.
This global domination 'vision', as old as amerika's declared 'manifest destiny', culminating in the post - Soviet Union strategy, proposed an urgent new geostrategy to prevent upcoming capitalist rivals or / and revolutions is contained in many documents, including these:

1992 Pentagon's Plan: 'Prevent the Re-Emergence of a New Rival' , NYT March 8, 1992
Excerpts from the Pentagon's Feb. 18 draft of the Defense Planning Guidance for the Fiscal Years 1994-1999: addresses the fundamentally new situation created by the collapse of the Soviet Union, the disintegration of the internal as well as the external empire, and the discrediting of Communism as an ideology with global pretensions and influence. The new international environment has also been shaped by the victory of the United States and its coalition allies over Iraqi aggression -- the first post-cold-war conflict and a defining event in U.S. global leadership. In addition to these two victories, there has been a less visible one, the integration of Germany and Japan into a U.S.-led system of collective security and the creation of a democratic "zone of peace." http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E0CE1D7173AF93BA35750C0A...

Constant Conflict
US Army War College Quarterly, Parameters
There will be no peace. At any given moment for the rest of our lifetimes, there will be multiple conflicts in mutating forms around the globe. Violent conflict will dominate the headlines, but cultural and economic struggles will be steadier and ultimately more decisive. The de facto role of the US armed forces will be to keep the world safe for our economy and open to our cultural assault. To those ends, we will do a fair amount of killing.

Analysis of 2008 Army Modernization Strategy
The US military sees the next 30 to 40 years as involving a state of continuous war against ideologically-motivated terrorists and competing with Russia and China for natural resources and markets... The 90 page document sets out the future of international conflict for the next 30 to 40 years as the US military sees it and outlines the manner in which the military will sustain its current operations and prepare and "transform" itself for a post cold war future of "perpetual warfare".... Some of the characteristics are familiar enough to a world audience accustomed to the rhetoric of the global war on terror."A key current threat is a radical, ideology-based, long-term terrorist threat bent on using any means available - to include weapons of mass destruction - to achieve its political and ideological ends. Relatively new, "emerging" features are also included in the document's rationale for future threats."We face a potential return to traditional security threats posed by emerging near-peers as we compete globally for depleting natural resources and overseas markets."... a pre-eminent threat to the security of the US and its allies "population growth - especially in less-developed countries - [which] will expose a resulting 'youth bulge'."...this will present the US with further "resource competition" in that these expanding populations in the developing world "will consume ever increasing amounts of food, water and energy".... information communication technologies and digital technologies will create a new "networked" human soldier - the 'Future Force Warrior' - who will deploy among the target population and will operate simultaneously several remote, unmanned ground and air weapons systems.... Supplementing these future global offensive operations, according to the strategy document, is the US military's planned domination of inner space or the earth's exo-atmospheric zone.... It states explicitly that the US military is preparing to fight continuous resource wars "for the long haul". The document also describes explicitly the manner in which the earth's orbit is now deemed a legitimate zone for offensive military activity. Dr Tom Clonan is the Irish Times Security Analyst. Our only real interest in this system is burying it. As Audre Lorde said, silence won't save you. Neither will pretending the problems stem from 'the other side' of the state's coin, that opposition to Obama's crimes is just republicans, just about 'healthcare reform' and all about 'racism' ... as the new hire exuberantly executes and expands the 'national security' agenda that Bush's personna backfired.

What are we waiting for? Hasn't reality trumped the obscene big lies and proved the U.S. enemy is resistance? With no domestic resistance capital has had a free hand grinding us into mercenary gunfodder and indebted, powerless labor, gold dust for finance capital. Isn't it clear yet the capitalist-zionist rulers will destroy the world and humanity to control it? What more do we need to recognize the difference between friends and enemies? To stop 'hoping' our ruthless enemy will 'change' into our savior? Isn't it time for decent people say enough act accordingly? It is time to support our allies in fighting the major source of destruction and death because regardless of political serious differences, they are courageously fighting and dying for us too, to rid this world and planet of our #1 enemy and destroyer. It's time to welcome and build off the defeats dealt to our common enemy.
It's past time to stop capitulating to, stop collaborating with the enemy's war against us and our world. It's revolutionary war-time.

Where to start? Get real, talk about it. Break the complicit silence, don't permit the most important subject in the world to be silenced, for any reason.
Polls show most people in the belly of this beast don't trust the media. That leads to cynicism and paralysis unless people get truthful information . Make it happen. And dig into how people see fundamentally changing things, creating a new system with the people in charge, doling out justice for the destroyers. If we don't do it, it will not happen. Revolution is a continuing, complex process that begins, not ends, with the people seizing state power. We need to build a genuine anti-imperialist movement, learn from recent past errors: a democrat controlled 'anti-war' movement as an 'anti-Bush' force to get into power, that disappeared when the other electoral arm of imperialism took over. Political practice and theory depend on and grow from each other. Without revolutionary theory, as Lenin said, there can be no revolutionary movement. Black and Brown peoples in amerika terrify our common enemy because they have provided the leading edge of revolutionary struggle. We need to learn from this proud, critical history and from revolutionary leaders, movements and regimes. Political line and strategy is the heart of leadership, guided by revolutionaries who respect and reflect in word and deed the fact that revolutionary power comes from and through the people, not over them.

While writing this commentary, the U.S. invaded Somalia expanding AFRICOM's role in conquering the continent, intensified provocations against Iran, refusing to prohibit israeli attack plans, slaughtered thousands more in the growing 'AfPak' state terror war, prepared to increase military forces in Iraq, approved more fascist 'Bush' laws and BAR announced the following heartening and urgently necessary anti-imperialist development. Will we make this and other such organizing
a new beginning?

Black is Back! A Coalition to Fight the Powers that Be – Including Obama
by BAR executive editor Glen Ford
“Obama is an obstacle that must be struggled against, a formidable bulwark of finance capital and imperial barbarism."
Black leadership is paralyzed, white “progressives” are still drunk on ObamaL'aid, and much of the purported anti-war movement fears to confront the nation's First Black President. As historically the most reliably anti-war and pro-social justice ethnicity in the United States, African Americans have a special role to play in the late capitalist drama. “To free our people’s hopes and dreams from oblivion, we need a coalition dedicated to the proposition that Black is Back.”
“The election of Obama as president has undermined our solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world as well as our own efforts for liberation.”
If we are to head off political and existential disaster, it is critical that Black-led formations reassert themselves to reverse the paralysis that has engulfed the Black Liberation, anti-war and anti-corporate movements since the ascension of Barack Obama. The evidence has accumulated in fearsome abundance: rather than unleashing the pent-up energies and aspirations of those who suffer under the rule of profiteers and militarists – most especially, African Americans – Obama’s rise has led to wholesale surrender of Black and “progressive” leadership to the financial and war-making interests embraced by the First Black President.
“’Black is Back’ is a statement of the re-entry of African people into political life independent of Barack Obama and the Democratic Party,” reads the Call to build the Black is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations. At an organizing meeting in Washington, DC, more than a dozen “leading anti-imperialist African diaspora activists, artists, journalists and organizations” (including this writer) agreed that “the election of Obama as president has undermined our solidarity with the oppressed peoples of the world as well as our own efforts for liberation.” ...
It is the job, first and foremost, of African American anti-imperialists to confront Obama’s militarism. This would nullify excuses from non-Black activists who claim that fear of alienating Blacks makes them reluctant to directly challenge Obama. When we Bring Back Black, we advance the struggle of all peoples.

Uranium in Iraq: The Poisonous Legacy of the Iraq Wars
By Abdul-Haq Al-Ani & Joanne Baker
Foreword by Professor David MacGregor
This book has been written out of concerns surrounding the changing health patterns in Iraq since 1991 and, in particular, the increase in cancers and genetic birth defects amongst children. The subject is fraught with difficulty because of the uncertain nature of both cause and effect. The combination of war and sanctions in Iraq over several decades, has created a highly toxic environment, and resistance to disease has become severely compromised by malnutrition, polluted water systems, psychological distress, and a failing health system. This book however, works on the supposition that the military use of uranium has the potential to be a serious contributing factor to the illnesses besetting the Iraqi population.
The book outlines environmental problems and legal implications of the contamination of Iraq due to the use of depleted uranium in military weapons used during the Gulf Wars.

“... civilized nations have driven themselves into the position of barbarians..."
“Monopoly, oligarchy, the striving for domination and not for freedom, the exploitation of an increasing number of small and weak nations by a handful of the richest or most powerful nations – all these have given rise to those distinctive characteristics of imperialism which compel us to define it as parasitic or decaying capitalism. … It would be a mistake to believe that this tendency to decay precludes the rapid growth of capitalism. It does not. In the epoch of imperialism, certain branches of industry, certain strata of bourgeoisie and certain countries betray… now one and now another of these tendencies. On the whole, capitalism is growing far more rapidly than before: but this growth is not only becoming more and more uneven in general, its unevenness also manifests itself, in particular, in the decay of the countries which are richest in capital..The export of capital, one of the most essential economic bases of imperialism, still more completely isolates the coupon-clipping rentiers from production and sets the seal of parasitism on the whole country that lives by exploiting the labour of overseas countries and colonies...." Washington’s “good war”
Death squads, disappearances and torture in Pakistan
Bill Van Auken
As the Obama administration prepares a major escalation of the so-called AfPak war, reports from Pakistan’s Swat Valley, near Afghanistan’s eastern border, provide a gruesome indication of the kind of war that the Pentagon and its local allies are waging. While touted by Obama and his supporters as the "good war," there is mounting evidence that the Pentagon and the CIA are engaged in a war against the population of the region involving death squads, disappearances and torture...Washington stands behind the atrocities being carried out against the Pakistani people. It is funding the Pakistani military operations, with some $2.5 billion in overt military aid this fiscal year. Meanwhile, CIA drone attacks continue, having claimed nearly 600 Pakistani victims over the past year, the majority of them civilians...Before becoming the US commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal headed the military’s Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the secret special operations unit described as an "executive assassination wing." US special forces "trainers" are operating on Pakistani soil, instructing Pakistani forces in the kind of tactics favored by JSOC— tactics that yield the bound and battered bodies dumped in the streets of Swat.Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen warned ...that the military will almost certainly seek an increase in troop levels over the 70,000 American soldiers and Marines that are to be deployed in Afghanistan by the end of this year. Citing diplomatic sources, Dawn reported that Gen. McChrystal is calling for a shift in the war’s focus to the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area.Having lost control of most of Afghanistan after nearly eight years of US occupation, the Pentagon is preparing to launch a new wave of bloodletting and terror against the population on both sides of the border in the hope of breaking popular resistance.[...] http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=58001&s2=18

Obama Supports Renewal of Patriot Act Provisions
Joe Palazzolo
The Obama administration has blessed three controversial provisions of the Patriot Act that expand the government’s reach in counter-terrorism investigations. In a Sept. 14 letter to lawmakers, Assistant Attorney General Ron Weich said the Justice Department supports the use of roving wiretaps, the authority to access business records and the ability to track so-called "lone-wolf" terrorists, or those without visible ties to a foreign terr orist organization. The provisions sunset at the end of the year...refresher on the three provisions:
Lone wolf: Allows government to track a target without any discernible affiliation to a foreign power, such as an international terrorist group. The provision only applies only to non-U.S. persons. It has never been used in a FISA application.
Business records: Allows investigators to compel third parties, including financial services and travel and telephone companies, to provide them access to a suspect’s records without the suspect’s knowledge. From 2004 to 2007, the FISA court issued about 220 orders to produce business records.
Roving wiretaps: Allows the government to monitor phone lines or Internet accounts that a terrorism suspect may be using, whether or not others who are not suspects also regularly use them. The government must provide the FISA court with specific information showing the suspect is purposely switching means of communication to evade detection. The government has applied for roving wiretaps an average of 22 times a year since 2001. [...] http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57988

u.s. portrays their mercenary thugs as drunk fratboys
American embassy contractors in Kabul accused of ritual abuse
Times of London
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/Afghanistan/article6817921.e...
Security contractors at the giant US Embassy in Kabul were accused yesterday of fostering a “Lord of the Flies environment” built on abuse and humiliating initiation rituals. The allegations, made by the independent Project On Government Oversight, are contained in a report submitted to Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State. The report is based on e-mails, some of which describe the alleged abuse of Afghan nationals. Among those implicated are Britons employed by ArmorGroup North America, the contractor providing security at the embassy, where nearly 1,000 diplomats and support staff work. The report quotes an e-mail from a guard currently working for the contractor, describing scenes of guards and supervisors “peeing on people, eating potato chips out of [buttock] cracks” and drinking “vodka shots out of [buttock] cracks”. In another incident, a male Afghan caterer complained last month of being grabbed by a supervisor and told: “You are very good for f***ing.” The supervisor, who was in only his underwear, also brandished bottles of alcohol. The allegations at the Kabul embassy come in the wake of scandals surrounding Blackwater, another security contractor, in Afghanistan and Iraq, where it has been accused of fraud, abuse and involvement in civilian deaths.

'I'll Reveal True Identity of Bomber'
http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/122299/-I-ll-reveal-true-identity-of...
An American citizen is to be named by the /Lockerbie bomber/ as the man who really carried out the terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight 103. Lawyers for the bomber were to argue that an "elusive" terrorist codenamed Abu Elias planted the bomb in December 1988, causing the deaths of 270 innocent people. Megrahi is now expected to identify the man behind this alias. The Scottish Sunday Express tracked this man down to his home in the US, and he strongly denied having anything to do with the atrocity. However, we can reveal that he has connections to at least two international terrorists and a Palestinian terror group, as well as links to the US intelligence services. The man, who works as a schools engineer for the US government, was to become the central figure in Megrahi’s aborted appeal. Sources close to Megrahi believe he may actually have been a double agent working for the FBI or the CIA.

US Confirms Somali Invasion, Won't Say Why
Jason Ditz
September 14, 2009 - Following confirmation by the French military that they definitely weren’t in the process of invading Somalia, the United States military is now confirming that it is, in fact, American forces that are pouring into the southern portion of the country in a helicopter-backed invasion. US military officials confirmed to the Associated Press today that forces from the US Joint Special Operations Command had invaded the lawl ess African nation, and were the ones responsible for the attack on the tiny village of Barawe this morning that was the first staging ground of the attack....http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57941

U.S. Kills Top Qaeda Militant in Southern Somalia
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/15/world/africa/15raid.html?th&emc=th
NAIROBI, Kenya — American commandos killed one of the most wanted Islamic militants in Africa in a daylight raid in southern Somalia on Monday, according to American and Somali officials, an indication of the Obama administration’s willingness to use combat troops strategically against Al Qaeda ’s growing influence in the region.

US troops raid Somali town controlled by fighters
AP National Security Writer Anne Gearan reported from Washington, DC.
MOGADISHU, Somalia — Foreign troops in helicopters strafed a car Monday in a Somali town controlled by Islamist insurgents, killing two men and capturing two others who were wounded, witnesses said. U.S. military officials said U.S. forces were involved in the raid... The U.S. government, haunted by a deadly 1993 U.S. military assault in Mogadishu chronicled in "Black Hawk Down," is trying to neutralize the growing terrorist threat without sending in troops...[ed: special force commandos on the ground don't count!] ...The commando-style action took place in a village near Barawe amid growing fears that al-Qaida is gaining a foothold in this lawless nation. Two U.S. military officials said forces from the U.S. Joint Special Operations Command were involved. The officials gave no details about the raid or its target, and they spoke on condition of anonymity because the operation was secret. Many experts fear Somalia is becoming a haven for al-Qaida, a place for terrorists to train and gather strength — much like Afghanistan in the 1990s. The U.N.-backed government, with support from African Union peacekeepers, holds only a few blocks of Mogadishu, the war-ravaged capital. Last year, U.S. missiles killed reputed al-Qaida commander Aden Hashi Ayro — the first major success after a string of U.S. military attacks in 2008.

Blood on the Tracks: The Continuing Lessons of Terror and Tyranny
Chris Floyd
http://www.chris-floyd.com/component/content/article/1-latest-news/1841-...
16 Sep 2009 05:19 AM PDT
At some point earlier this month, Barack Obama took a moment out of his busy day to sign an "execute order." That is, he ordered American agents to kill a man without any legal procedure whatsoever: no arrest, no trial, no formal presentation – and disputation – of evidence, no defense…and no warning. They killed him on the open road, in a sneak attack; he was not engaged in combat, he was not posing an imminent threat to anyone at the time, he had not been charged with any crime. This kind of thing is ordinarily regarded as murder...
And not a single voice of protest was raised anywhere in the American political and media establishments. Churchmen did not thunder from the pulpits about this lawless action. The self-proclaimed patriots and liberty-lovers on the ever-more militant Right did not denounce this most extreme expression of state tyranny: the leader's arbitrary power to kill anyone he pleases. It is simply an accepted, undisputed fact of American life today that American leaders can and do – and should – murder people, anywhere in the world, if they see fit. When this supreme tyranny is noted at all, it is simply to celebrate the Leader for his toughness -- or perhaps chide him for not killing even more people in this fashion....

Now Barack Obama is availing himself of these same powers. There is not one crumb, one atom, one photon of difference between Obama and Bush on this issue. They both believe that the president of the United States can have people killed outside of any semblance of a judicial process: murdered, in cold blood, in sneak attacks, with any "collateral damage" regarded as an acceptable by-product – just like the terrorists they claim to be fighting with these methods.

Nor does this doctrine of presidential murder make any distinction between American citizens and foreigner. Indeed, one of the first people known to have been killed in this way was an American citizen living in Yemen. So let us put the reality in its plainest terms: if the president of the United States decides to call you a terrorist and kill you, he can. He doesn't have to arrest you, he doesn't have to charge you, he doesn't have to put you on trial, he doesn't have to convict you, he doesn't have to sentence you, he doesn't have to allow you any appeals: he can just kill you. And no one in the American power structure will speak up for you or denounce your murder; they won't even see that it's wrong, they won't even consider it remarkable. It's just business as usual. It's just the way things are done. It's just the way we are now.

II.
These reflections are prompted by the killing of Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, a Kenyan man accused of being an al Qaeda operative. We are told – by unnamed American intelligence officials – that Nabhan was suspected of a hotel bombing in Kenya and a failed attempt to shoot down an airliner. We are told, by unnamed American intelligence officials, that Nabhan was suspected of involvement in the bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa... are the unnamed American intelligence officials who tell us these things the same unnamed American intelligence officials who told us that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction? Are these the same unnamed American intelligence officials who told us that Saddam Hussein was involved with al Qaeda? That he had purchased uranium "yellowcake" from Niger? Are these the same unnamed American intelligence officials who used to tell us that the Soviet Union was not collapsing in the 1980s but was in fact developing super-secret weapons to destroy us all? Or that North Vietnamese boats had attacked American ships in the Gulf of Tonkin? Are these the same unnamed American intelligence officials always trotted out to justify any action or agenda of the government of the day, without ever producing any evidence whatsoever of their claims?

The truth is that we cannot know what Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan did or did not do – beyond the fact that he had joined the "wrong" side (i.e., one not currently backed by America) in a multi-sided, hydra-headed civil war in Somalia. Nabhan was fighting with a faction of Islamic militants called al-Shabab. Al-Shabab once belonged to a coalition of Islamic groups which had brought the first measure of stability to Somalia after many years of anarchy and chaos under fractious warlords who had driven American forces from the country in 1993. In late 2006, this coalition was overthrown by an American-assisted invasion of Ethiopian troops – with the aid of some of those same warlords from 1993, now on the CIA payroll and fighting for the Americans. A horrible crucifixion of the Somali people ensued, turning the already ravaged nation into one of the greatest humanitarian disasters on earth. Meanwhile, al-Shabab grew stronger and more radical during the reign of terror instigated by the American-Ethiopian "regime change" operation.

In the end, after many atrocities, the American-backed Ethiopian forces withdrew – and the Americans helped place the head of the ousted Islamic coalition back into power as the president of the Western-backed "transitional government." ... the Americans paid their former enemies to help oust a leader whom they then put back into power again. The end result of the American intervention in Somalia has been the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent people; the utter ruin, dispossession and near-starvation of millions of people; the growth of extremism; and ever-greater violence, chaos, and instability.  It is a crime of monstrous, mind-boggling proportions....

The result of Nabhan's murder will only be more suffering for Somalis. Al-Shabab will certainly retaliate – but with no way of striking at the United States, they will have to lash out locally. The murder will also serve as lesson for would-be terrorists around the world – the same lesson that the War on Terror has been teaching day after day, year after year, from the day it was launched by George W. Bush to its continuance and expansion by Barack Obama today. That lesson is stark and simple: Murder works. Murder is the way to advance your agenda. Murder is what "serious" players on the world stage do. There is no law but the law of power; there is no way but the way of violence. There is no morality, there is no liberty, we share no common humanity. ... This is what Barack Obama affirmed once again when he signed his "execute order."

Suicide Bombers Hit AU Base In Somalia
September 17, 2009 2:10 p.m. ET
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/09/17/world/international-uk-somalia...
MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali rebels hit the African Union's main base in Mogadishu with two suicide car bombs on Thursday, killing at least nine people and showing their ability to strike at the heart of the peacekeeping mission... Senior Somali government officials, including the national police chief, were meeting AMISOM leaders there at the time.... Burundi's army said the deputy commander of the African Union's (AU) mission AMISOM was among the dead. Uganda said its force commander was wounded.... Witness Farah Hassan said two white U.N. marked vehicles drove into the coastal military base followed by two pick-up trucks carrying Somali government troops. "We thought they were real U.N. cars carrying white people, but moments later deafening thunder shook the ground," he told Reuters..
Al Shabaab's spokesman, Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, told Reuters Thursday's attacks were to avenge the death of Kenyan-born Salah Ali Saleh Nabhan, who was killed in rebel-held southern Somalia on Monday by U.S. special forces..."We knew the infidel government and AU troops planned to attack us after the holy month. This is a message to them."... Hours before the blasts, al Shabaab issued demands in return for the release of a French security consultant they are holding hostage, including an immediate end to French support for the Somali government and the withdrawal of AMISOM troops...
The 28-year-old [Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage] had been allied with al Shabaab, which Washington accuses of being al Qaeda's proxy in the country...
Thursday's attack may deter some African nations, including Nigeria and Djibouti, that have agreed in principle to send soldiers to reinforce AMISOM. So far, Uganda and Burundi are the only nations to have sent soldiers.

' U.S. helping in unconventional ways'
In Somalia, a Leader Is Raising Hopes for Stability
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/17/world/africa/17somalia.html?_r=1&th=&e...
Analysts say President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed offers hope for stability, but he needs to act against militants.
Much of the world is counting on Sheik Sharif to tackle piracy and beat back the spread of militant Islam, two Somali problems that have flared into major geopolitical ones. Al Qaeda appears to be drawing closer to Somali insurgents in an effort to turn this country into a launching pad for global jihad. Just this week, American commandos killed a Qaeda agent in southern Somalia in a daylight helicopter raid.... the United States is playing an increasingly active role here, and recently shipped 40 tons of weapons to Somalia to keep Sheik Sharif’s government alive.... To help, he [ Sheik Sharif] has assembled an impressive brain trust of Somali-Americans, Somali-Canadians and Somali-Europeans with Ph.D.’s who had been waiting on the sidelines for years to help rebuild their country....
The Shabab used to be seen as genuine freedom fighters, leading the battle against the thousands of [ed. U.S. proxy] Ethiopian troops in Somalia propping up the previous transitional government. But now that the Ethiopians have left, the Shabab seem to be going through an ideological drift. Their focus is no longer on liberating Somalia, the defectors said, but on something bigger [ed. according to 'defectors who fear identifying' themselves] ...
More help may be on the way. According to United Nations and Somali officials, the Ugandan military plans to invade Kismayo, a port town in southern Somalia controlled by a Shabab-allied group, as soon as more peacekeeping funds arrive. Somali officials say the C.I.A. will open a base in the old officer quarters near Mogadishu’s airport. They said three C.I.A. officers visited Villa Somalia in late August to discuss training Sheik Sharif’s struggling intelligence services. American officials acknowledged that the United States was helping in unconventional ways, but would not specify further.

Israel eyes big arms sales in Africa
UPI, September 14, 2009
... Yossi Melman, who writes extensively on Israel's intelligence establishment observed that... "Secret funding from the United States Central Intelligence Agency was channeled by American trade unions to (Israel's) Histadrut labor federation …to finance various activities. "Among other things, the money was used to post an impressive array of Mossad agents in the African states."...Israelis were reportedly involved in military coups in Uganda and Zanzibar... Addis Ababa is currently propping up the Western-backed transitional government in neighboring Somalia, where al-Qaida is reputed to be operating... "Israelis have been involved in civil wars (in Angola, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Ivory Coast) and in aiding dictatorial regimes such as in Equatorial Guinea and the two Congo republics."...
In July and August, amid growing tensions with Iran, Israel deployed one of three German-built Dolphin-class submarines and two corvettes into the Red Sea in a clear warning to Tehran. Israeli Scientists: DNA can be fabricated

PRN TEL AVIV, Israel, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Nucleix, Ltd., an emerging life science company specializing in forensic DNA analysis, announced that company researchers have proven DNA evidence found at crime scenes can easily be falsified using basic equipment, know-how and access to DNA or a DNA database. Recognizing the need to safeguard the accuracy and credibility of DNA samples in the field of forensics, Nucleix scientists have developed a novel assay termed "DNA authentication" for combating this form of "biological identity theft" by distinguishing between in-vivo (real) and in-vitro (fake) DNA. ...
Use of DNA fingerprinting as evidence in criminal proceedings relies on the assumption that the DNA sample is genuine. However, standard molecular biology techniques, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), molecular cloning and more recently available whole genome amplification, enable anyone with basic equipment and limited know-how to synthesize unlimited amounts of artificial (in-vitro) DNA with any desired profile. Such fake DNA can easily be incorporated into genuine human tissues (e.g., blood, saliva) or applied to surfaces and planted at crime scenes. As reported in the paper, Nucleix's research demonstrated that current forensic procedures cannot distinguish between real and fake DNA evidence. Moreover, Nucleix showed that in vitro-synthesized DNA samples that were profiled by a leading independent forensic laboratory were indistinguishable from in vivo-generated or real DNA.

MAJOR HARD & SOFT POWER OPERATION UNREPORTED BY U.S. MEDIA: USRAEL WAR THREATS FAIL TO MAKE IRAN BLINK
Clock ticking for Iran as Israel appears ready for strike
Analysis By Amos Harel
Last update - 17:11 12/09/2009
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1113816.html
In the rare moments when it's not preoccupied with the decline of U.S. President Barack Obama in the polls and with the debate over its government's proposed health-care reforms, the American press continues to deal almost obsessively with another pressing issue: the deadlock in efforts to stop Iran's nuclear program and the growing likelihood that the endgame will be an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. In the past few weeks alone, an editorial in The Wall Street Journal warned the president that the United States must put a quick halt to the Iranian nuclear program, because otherwise Israel will bomb the facilities.
"An Israeli strike on Iran would be the most dangerous foreign policy issue President Obama could face," the paper wrote.
Former vice president Dick Cheney revealed that while in office he supported an American strike against Iran, but was compelled to accept the approach of president George W. Bush, who preferred the diplomatic route.
Another Republican ultra-hawk, former ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, maintains that additional sanctions alone will not be enough to make the Iranians abandon their nuclear ambitions. William Cohen, who served as secretary of defense during Bill Clinton's second presidential term (1997-2001), says that "there is a countdown taking place" and that Israel "is not going to sit indifferently on the sidelines and watch Iran continue on its way toward a nuclear-weapons capability."
The chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, Adm. Mike Mullen, explains that "a very narrow window" exists between the possibility of resolving the issue and an attack on Iran...

Looking the other way
So, the moment of truth will arrive at some point between the end of 2009 and the middle of 2010: Should Iran be attacked? American experts agree that this would involve an Israeli strike. It is very unlikely that Obama will be the one dispatching American planes to Natanz.
During the past year, military experts and commentators are increasingly coming around to the view that the Israel Air Force is capable of executing the mission. The Israel Defense Forces was significantly upgraded during the tenure of Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi. The goal, it is argued, is not to liquidate the Iranian project but to set it back. According to this line of thought, if an attack, American or Israeli, causes a couple of years' delay in the project it will have achieved its aim. Similarly, before launching the attack on the Iraqi reactor in 1981, Israel did not foresee the chain of events that finally forced Saddam Hussein to forgo his nuclear ambitions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak take a similar view of the Iranian threat. At least, that is what both their public statements and their comments in closed meetings suggest.

For an Israeli attack to be considered, Israel would need the tacit approval of the Obama administration, if only in the sense that it looks the other way. This is due above all to the necessity of passing through the Iraqi air corridor, as American soldiers will still be in Iraq in 2011. No less important is strategic coordination for the day after: How will the United States react to a prolonged aerial attack by Israel on the nuclear sites and to the regional flare-up that might follow?
These are matters that would have to be agreed on directly between Obama and Netanyahu....

US Lawmakers Vow Tough Action on Iran
By AFP
September 11, 2009 -- WASHINGTON (AFP ) - Top US lawmakers vowed tough action on Iran Thursday as tensions mounted ahead of a late September deadline for negotiations and amid speculation Israel may launch a preemptive strike.
"The clock is ticking and in fact, it has almost run out," Democratic Representative Howard Berman told Jewish leaders in comments intended to allay concerns that President Barack Obama's administration is not doing enough to tame Tehran's nuclear ambitions... Ros-Lehtinen has co-sponsored the draft bill, which bars any foreign entity that sells refined petroleum to Iran or helps the country expand its refining capacity from doing business in the United States...
The Jewish state has not ruled out launching a preemptive strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, despite strong US concerns over such an outcome....[ed: U.S. has essentially given its proxy a greenlight] http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article23465.htm

Iran Proposes Control System Aimed at Eliminating Nuclear Weapons
By Thomas Erdbrink
Iran also offered cooperation in solving problems in Afghanistan and fighting terrorism, as well as collaboration on oil and gas projects, Mojtaba Samareh Hashemi said.... With the new package it is proposing, Iran wants to remove those doubts by establishing a broad international system that would force not only Iran but countries that have not signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, such as Israel, India and Pakistan, to be completely open about their nuclear intentions... "Since nuclear weapons are an international threat, with the cooperation of all countries we can design an international framework that, basically, prevents research, production, multiplying and keeping nuclear weapons and also moves toward destruction of present nuclear weapons. Iran is ready in this path to offer any and every kind of cooperation and effort. No country must be exempt from this international framework against nuclear weapons. " Samareh Hashemi explained. ..
Samareh Hashemi strongly rejected a senior U.S. diplomat's accusation Wednesday that Iran "is now either very near or in possession" of enough low-enriched uranium to produce one nuclear weapon. The diplomat, Glyn Davies, Washington's chief envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, said in a speech, "We have serious concerns that Iran is deliberately attempting, at a minimum, to preserve a nuclear weapons option." He charged that Iran's continuing enrichment activity, in defiance of three U.N. Security Council resolutions, "moves Iran closer to a dangerous and destabilizing possible breakout capacity." ...
The International Atomic Energy Agency has said it has no conclusive evidence that Iran is trying to militarize its nuclear program, which Iran says is meant solely to generate electricity....http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article23464.htm

Preparing For ‘Plan C’ On Iran
http://www.thejewishweek.com/viewArticle/c37_a16707/News/National.html
9/8/9
The most specific item on Thursday’s agenda is lobbying on behalf of the Iran Petroleum Sanctions Act, but organizers stress that sanctions are just part of the overall action plan...
“As a community, we are taking an overall approach,” said Mark Levin, executive director of *NCSJ, a group focused on Eastern European human rights. Levin is coordinating the Washington event...Several hundred Jewish leaders from around the country will spill into Washington on Thursday for a “national leadership advocacy day on Iran” that many hope will spark a genuine grass-roots movement akin to the Soviet Jewry movement of the 1980s. And while one ostensible goal of the fly-in is to press for new sanctions legislation pending in Congress, there is a broader, unspoken purpose: to ensure strong official U.S. support if Israel feels compelled to use military force to damage Iran’s nuclear program.

Beneath the surface, this week’s action is “designed to impress upon people in Washington that somebody has to deal with the problem — and that all the moves up until this point have clearly not addressed the problem in a satisfactory way,” said Shoshana Bryen, senior director for security policy at the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). “The Jews aren’t coming here to ask the administration to bomb Iran, but I also don’t think they’re coming here specifically asking for sanctions, either, because we know sanctions haven’t worked. What we’re left with is that they’re preparing the ground so that no matter what happens, nobody can say they weren’t warned.”
While sanctions must be part of the policy palette, along with diplomacy and the prospect of negotiations, “the administration must be ready with a ‘Plan C’” if negotiations and sanctions fail to deter Iran, David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Committee said. ...In private, many Jewish leaders believe that Plan C inevitably means some kind of military action — probably not American, since U.S. forces face a worsening and increasingly unpopular war in Afghanistan.

Israeli leaders have repeatedly hinted [SIC] they might be forced to take on the job themselves — and to do that, they need American support, at best, acquiescence at the least.[editor: * amerikan liberal imperialist-zionist apologists pretending Israel 'holds hostage' its U.S. masters!]. So one function of the heightened activism may be to prepare the ground for whatever comes next if sanctions — as many predict — don’t work, and to ensure American support for any action Israel deems necessary.
This week’s mobilization and demonstrations [is] scheduled for Sept. 24, when Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to be in New York for the opening of the UN General Assembly, also reflect the first step in an effort to make Iran advocacy a mass movement...

At first, Human Rights Watch, a global organization with headquarters in New York, issued an unequivocal statement of support for Mr. Garlasco, saying he “has never held or expressed Nazi or anti-Semitic views.” Ms. Bogert at the time said his work has been “extensively reviewed, lawyered, scrutinized, pulverized by our program and legal staff, and we have not in six years ever had cause to question his professional judgment.”... Ms. Bogert called the attacks on Mr. Garlasco and her group “a distraction from the real issue, which is the Israeli government’s behavior.” [HRW/NGO liberal M.O.: criticize 'excesses', never U.S. & proxy's State terror wars, occupation, genocide] ... Mr. Garlasco, an American, was not only a collector, he has written a book, more than 400 pages long, about Nazi-era medals. His hobby, inspired he said by a German grandfather conscripted into Hitler’s army, was revealed on a pro-Israel blog, Mere Rhetoric , which quoted his enthusiastic postings on collector sites under the pseudonym “Flak88” — including, “That is so cool! The leather SS jacket makes my blood go cold it is so COOL!”...
Mr. Garlasco, who worked at the Pentagon helping to target bombs in the second Persian Gulf war, has since traveled the world for Human Rights Watch, investigating and writing reports of the alleged use of white phosphorus munitions in Gaza, cluster munitions in Russia and Georgia, and other military practices in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.

What Role Did The U.S.-Israeli Relationship Play In 9-11?
By Jeff Gates
September 13, 2009
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article23488.htm
On the day of the 9-11 attacks, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asked what the attack would mean for US-Israeli relations. His quick reply was: "It's very good. Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)." Intelligence wars rely on mathematical models to anticipate the response of "the mark" to staged provocations. Reactions thereby become foreseeable-within an acceptable range of probabilities. When Israeli mathematician Robert J. Aumann received the 2005 Nobel Prize in economic science, he conceded that "the entire school of thought that we have developed here in Israel" has turned "Israel into the leading authority in this field."
With a well-planned provocation, the anticipated response can even become a weapon in the arsenal of the agent provocateur. In response to 9-11, how difficult would it be to foresee that the U.S. would deploy its military to avenge that attack? With fixed intelligence, how difficult would it be to redirect that response to wage a long-planned war in Iraq - not for U.S. interests but to advance the agenda for Greater Israel?
The emotionally wrenching component of a provocation plays a key role in the field of game theory war planning where Israel is the authority. With the televised murder of 3,000 Americans, a shared mindset of shock, grief and outrage made it easier for U.S. policy-makers to believe that a known Evil Doer in Iraq was responsible, regardless of the facts.
The strategic displacement of facts with induced beliefs, in turn, requires a period of "preparing the mindset" so that "the mark" will put their faith in a pre-staged fiction. Those who induced the March 2003 invasion of Iraq began "laying mental threads" and creating agenda-advancing mental associations more than a decade earlier....
Barack Obama appears unwilling to name senior appointees who are not either Zionists are strongly pro-Israeli. The greatest threat to world peace is not terrorists. The greatest threat is the U.S.-Israeli relationship...
Game theory war-planners manipulate the shared mental environment by shaping perceptions and creating impressions that become consensus opinions. With the aid of well-timed crises, policy-makers fall in line with a predetermined agenda-not because they are Evil Doers or "imperialists" but because the shared mindset has been pre-conditioned to respond not to the facts but to manipulated emotions and consensus beliefs....

From its very outset, the Zionist enterprise focused on hegemony in the Middle East. Its entangled alliance with the U.S. enabled this enterprise to deploy American might for that purpose. Only one nation had the means, motive, opportunity and stable nation state intelligence required to take the U.S. to war in the Middle East while also making it appear that Islam is the problem. If Barack Obama continues to defer to Tel Aviv, he can rightly be blamed when the next attack occurs in the U.S. or the European Union featuring the usual orgy of evidence pointing to a predetermined target. Should another mass murder occur, that event will be traceable directly to the U.S.-Israeli relationship and the failure of U.S policy-makers to free America from this enemy within.

Toronto Declaration: No Celebration of Occupation
A CELEBRATION OF SOLIDARITY: A Different Kind of Spotlight
September 14th at 7:00 p.m.
Rogers Communications Centre, Ryerson University, 80 Gould Street, Toronto
The Toronto Declaration is unstoppable. Over 1,000 filmmakers, actors, writers and other cultural producers from around the world -- including Israel and Palestine -- have signed on to the statement objecting to the Toronto International Film Festival's celebratory spotlight on Tel Aviv.
An Open Letter to the Toronto International Film Festival
(see http://torontodeclaration.blogspot.com/ for endorsers and French & Spanish texts)
As members of the Canadian and international film, culture and media arts communities, we are deeply disturbed by the Toronto International Film Festival’s decision to host a celebratory spotlight on Tel Aviv. We protest that TIFF, whether intentionally or not, has become complicit in the Israeli propaganda machine.

In 2008, the Israeli government and Canadian partners Sidney Greenberg of Astral Media, David Asper of Canwest Global Communications and Joel Reitman of MIJO Corporation launched “Brand Israel,” a million dollar media and advertising campaign aimed at changing Canadian perceptions of Israel. Brand Israel would take the focus off Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and its aggressive wars, and refocus it on achievements in medicine, science and culture. An article in Canadian Jewish News quotes Israeli consul general Amir Gissin as saying that Toronto would be the test city for a promotion that could then be deployed around the world. According to Gissin, the culmination of the campaign would be a major Israeli presence at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. (Andy Levy-Alzenkopf, “Brand Israel set to launch in GTA,” Canadian Jewish News, August 28, 2008.)

In 2009, TIFF announced that it would inaugurate its new City to City program with a focus on Tel Aviv. According to program notes by Festival co-director and City to City programmer Cameron Bailey, “The ten films in this year’s City to City programme will showcase the complex currents running through today’s Tel Aviv. Celebrating its 100th birthday in 2009, Tel Aviv is a young, dynamic city that, like Toronto, celebrates its diversity.”

The emphasis on 'diversity' in City to City is empty given the absence of Palestinian filmmakers in the program. Furthermore, what this description does not say is that Tel Aviv is built on destroyed Palestinian villages, and that the city of Jaffa, Palestine’s main cultural hub until 1948, was annexed to Tel Aviv after the mass exiling of the Palestinian population. This program ignores the suffering of thousands of former residents and descendants of the Tel Aviv/Jaffa area who currently live in refugee camps in the Occupied Territories or who have been dispersed to other countries, including Canada. Looking at modern, sophisticated Tel Aviv without also considering the city’s past and the realities of Israeli occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza strip, would be like rhapsodizing about the beauty and elegant lifestyles in white-only Cape Town or Johannesburg during apartheid without acknowledging the corresponding black townships of Khayelitsha and Soweto [....]

Afghanistan Contractors Outnumber Troops
Wall Street Journal
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125089638739950599.html
Even as U.S. troops surge to new highs in Afghanistan they are outnumbered by military contractors The number of military contractors in Afghanistan rose to almost 74,000 by June 30, far outnumbering the roughly 58,000 U.S. soldiers on the ground at that point. As the military force in Afghanistan grows further, to a planned 68,000 by the end of the year, the Defense Department expects the ranks of contractors to increase more. Military contractors' personnel for a time outnumbered U.S. troops in Iraq.... in Afghanistan as in Iraq, the Pentagon has found that the military has shrunk so much since the Cold War ended that it isn't big enough to sustain operations without using companies to directly support military operation...
The heavy reliance on contractors in Afghanistan signals that a situation that defense planners once considered temporary has become a standard fixture of U.S. military operations.
"For a sustained fight like our current commitments, the U.S. military can't go to war without contractors on the battlefield," said Steven Arnold, a former Army general and retired executive at logistics specialists Ecolog USA and KBR Inc. formerly owned by Halliburton Co. He added, "For that matter, neither can NATO."...

Coordination of security contractors, one of the most charged issues in Iraq, is being beefed up for Afghanistan, said Mr. Motsek, a Pentagon official. A new umbrella contract planned for later this year is designed to make awarding work speedier and to help oversight and vetting.... more Defense Department civilians are being sent to oversee all types of contracts, and they will stay longer overseas than their predecessors did in Iraq....

NATO: A MAJOR U.S. VEHICLE FOR GLOBAL DOMINATION
Afghan War: NATO Builds History's First Global Army
Never before have soldiers from so many states served in the same war theater
Rick Rozoff
...In 1999 NATO's fiftieth anniversary summit in Washington, D.C. welcomed the first expansion of the world's only military bloc in the post-Cold War era, absorbing former Warsaw Pact members the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland, in the course of conducting NATO's first war, the relentless 78-day bombardment of Yugoslavia, Operation Allied Force.
Two years later, after the 9/11 attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., NATO activated its Article 5 - "The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all" - for the first time in the bloc's history and launched a number of operations from deploying German AWACS to patrol the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. to launching Operation Active Endeavor, a naval surveillance and interdiction program throughout the Mediterranean Sea which continues to this day.
But the main effect, and the main purpose, of invoking NATO's mutual military assistance clause was to rally the then 19 member military bloc for the invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and the stationing of troops, warplanes and bases throughout South and Central Asia, including in Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Flyover rights were also arranged with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan and newly acquired airbases in Bulgaria and Romania have since been used for the transit of troops and weapons to the Afghan war zone....

As the U.S. State Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Kurt Volker (later U.S. ambassador to NATO) said in 2006, "In 1994 NATO was an alliance of 16 [countries], without partners, having never conducted a military operation. By 2005, NATO had become an alliance of 26, engaged in eight simultaneous operations on four continents with the help of 20 partners in Eurasia, seven in the Mediterranean, four in the Persian Gulf, and a handful of capable contributors on our periphery." The updated details of what he was alluding to are these:
From 1999 to this year NATO has added twelve new members - Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia - all in Eastern Europe, nine of them formerly in the Warsaw Pact and three former Soviet and two Yugoslav republics.
All of the new members were prepared for full NATO accession under the Partnership for Peace {PfP) program, which first demands weapons interoperability (scrapping contemporary Russian and old Warsaw Pact arms in favor of Western ones), increasing future members' military spending to 2% of the national budget no matter how hard-hit the nation is since the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, the purging of "politically unreliable" personnel from military, defense and security posts, training abroad in NATO military academies, hosting U.S. Alliance military exercises, and instructing the officer corps in a common language - English - for joint overseas operations.
With a dozen PfP graduates now full NATO members who have deployed troops to Afghanistan - Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania were also levied for troops in Iraq - the partnership still includes every former Soviet Republic not already in NATO but Russia - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan - and ten European nations that had never before been part of a military bloc: Austria, Bosnia, Finland, the Republic of Ireland, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Serbia, Sweden and Switzerland ...

All of the latter but Malta and Serbia have been tapped for soldiers in Afghanistan. The 28 full NATO members all have troops there also.

Of the former Soviet republics, troops from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova and Ukraine served in Iraq under PfP obligations. At the time of the South Caucasus war last August Georgia had the third largest national contingent in Iraq - 2,000 troops deployed near the Iranian border - which the U.S. rushed home on transport planes for the war with Russia.

NATO also upgraded its Mediterranean Dialogue, whose partners are Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, at the 2004 NATO summit in Istanbul, Turkey with the so-called Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, which also laid the groundwork for military integration of the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The last-named is the only Arab state to date with troops in Afghanistan.

The Afghan war has led to another category of NATO partnership, that of Contact Countries, which so far officially include Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea.

The Alliance also has a Tripartite Commission with Afghanistan and Pakistan for the prosecution of the dangerously expanding war in South Asia, and defense, military and political leaders from both nations are regularly summoned to NATO Headquarters in Belgium for meetings and directives. Afghan and Pakistani soldiers are trained at NATO bases in Europe. Though not members of formal partnerships, nations with troops serving under NATO in Afghanistan like Singapore and Mongolia have been pulled into the bloc's global nexus and necessarily adopt military doctrines and structures in line with NATO standards.

Another component of the 2001 decision to activate the Alliance's Article 5 provision was to deploy NATO forces to the Horn of Africa, primarily to Camp Lemonier in Djibouti, where they have conducted maritime surveillance and boarding operations ever since. Last autumn NATO deployed its first naval task force off the coast of Somalia.
In addition to the five African nations in the Mediterranean Dialogue, NATO has expanded its penetration of the continent over the past eight years: An Alliance naval group has docked in Kenya. NATO has held military maneuvers in South Africa. Even Libya has begun cooperation with NATO in the Mediterranean. With the launching of the Pentagon's Africa Command last year - AFRICOM is project of retired Marine General James Jones ["I take my daily orders from Dr. Kissinger "] from 2003-2006 top military commander of NATO and the U.S. European Command where AFRICOM was incubated and now U.S. National Security Adviser [...].http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=56802&s2=10

Enduring Freedom until 2050
By Pepe Escobar
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/KI09Df01.html
After eight long years, now more than ever, the United States invasion and (partial) occupation of Afghanistan is on a roll, courtesy of US President Barack Obama's "new strategy".This - which Pentagon supremo Robert Gates insists is "working" - includes US and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) staging mini-Guernicas, al la the bombing of Guernica, Spain, by German and Italian warplanes in 1937, as painted by Pablo Picasso.
It also includes General Stanley McChrystal - the former number one hit man for General David Petraeus in Iraq - assaulting Washington to demand (what else is new?) an extra 45,000 US boots on the ground. Add 52,000 US troops and no less than a staggering 68,000 US contractors as of late March - don't even count NATO - and soon there will be more Americans in the Afghan mire than Soviets at their occupation peak during the 1980s. In only 450 days, Enduring Freedom plus NATO boots swelled up from 67,000 to 118,000...The US and its NATO allies will do - and spend - whatever it takes to implant military bases on the doorstep of both Russia and China and - Allah only knows - get their Trans-Afghan Pakistan gas pipeline on track.

Somber Warning on Afghanistan
By Alison Smale
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/14/world/europe/14nato.html?_r=1
Western powers now in Afghanistan run the risk of suffering the fate of the Soviet Union there if they cannot halt the growing insurgency and an Afghan perception that they are foreign invaders, according to Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former U.S. national security adviser to President Jimmy Carter....“We are running the risk of replicating — obviously unintentionally — the fate of the Soviets,” Mr. Brzezinski said in his speech Friday night. The presence of so many foreign troops underpins an Afghan perception that the Americans and their allies are hostile invaders and “suggests transformation of the conflict is taking place,” he added. A new international conference would help devise a more refined strategy, Mr. Brzezinski said in a brief interview Sunday. Using the military to support a development strategy would help prolong the European presence, he suggested — “our European friends are less likely to leave us in the lurch.”If the United States is left alone in Afghanistan, Mr. Brzezinski said Friday night, “that would probably spell the end of the Alliance.”http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article23489.htm

In the wake of the Afghan Election: NATO Intensifies Military Deployments, Carnage
by Rick Rozoff
After NATO pledged 5,000 more troops for the war in Afghanistan at its sixtieth anniversary summit In Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany this April, U.S. President Barack Obama hailed the commitment as representing "a strong down payment on the future of our mission in Afghanistan and on the future of NATO." The Alliance offer was in addition to Obama's own vow to deploy 21,000 more American forces to the war-wracked nation where the U.S. is waging its longest war since that in Vietnam and NATO is fighting the first ground and first Asian war in its history. A conflict that will enter its ninth calendar year next month. Not, never, willing to acknowledge that the Afghan war is in fact a war,Washington and Brussels from the time of the summit until now have attempted to justify their troop buildups in South Asia as motivated primarily by insuring that the second presidential election in Afghanistan since the joint U.S.-NATO invasion of 2001 proceeded uninterrupted. A ruthless counterinsurgency and bombing campaign was thus portrayed as another war for democracy... http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57767

another U.S. pronounced dead man walking, like bin laden, zarqawi, etc.
The timing of this strike is crucial. There was a lot of pressure for these raids to make an impression. If there was suspicion that someone was killed, they went ahead and released it to the press claiming that person was dead. The reports came at a time when the CIA was under pressure to take out high-profile Al Qaeda operatives, our source explained. I have seen some of the information and his lawyers, who also believe he is still alive, have seen reports from Pakistani intelligence.

"U.S. created and supported Jundallah"
Iranian Sunni rebel confesses U.S. role in terror plots inside Iran:
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-08/26/content_11943561.htm
Abdolhamid Rigi, awaiting execution in Iran, brother of shadowy Jundallah (Soldiers of God) leader Abdolmalek Rigi, told reporters his militant group received orders from the United States to launch terror attacks in the Islamic republic. 'The United States created and supported Jundallah and we received orders from them,' Rigi said...'They told us whom to shoot and whom not to. All orders came from them. They told us that they would provide us with everything we need like money and equipment.'
Iran has accused Jundallah of launching several attacks inside the country, mainly in Sistan-Baluchestan. The group also claimed a May 28 bomb attack on the Shia Amir al-Momenin mosque in Zahedan in which more than 20 people were killed and 50 wounded just weeks before Iran's June 12 presidential election... The day after the mosque bombing, officials accused the United States of 'hiring' those behind the attack, linking it to the presidential election. Washington rejected the accusation. Iran has in the past blamed US and British agents based in neighbouring Iraq and Afghanistan for launching attacks on border provinces with significant ethnic minority populations....Iranian officials said Abdolhamid will be executed for his role in attacks in the country. -AFP http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/news/world...

NATO Goes Green -- for Ill-Gotten Gains
Chris Floyd
September 10, 2009
NATO, the "North Atlantic" treaty organization now fighting a slaughterous war in, er, Central Asia, is going green, setting up a new panel of heavy-duty worthies to pursue the strategic ramifications of global climate change. But as David Cronin reports in the Guardian , when militarists mull the ailments of Mother Earth, they aren't looking to mop the old lady's brow; they're trying to shake her down for every little bauble she's got left. The whole piece is worth reading, but here are some excerpts:
Over the past week a group appointed by the new Nato secretary-general Anders Fogh Rasmussen held its first meeting on how the "strategic concept" guiding the organisation's activities should be updated to take account of climate change and other key challenges. The group's chief? One Madeleine Albright, previously US secretary of state under Bill Clinton. Albright, lest we forget, is the same woman who foisted mass pauperisation on Iraq in pursuit of the ignoble goal of putting that country's oil resources under western control. In 1996, she was asked on the TV show 60 Minutes if she could justify the deaths of half of a million Iraqi children caused, according to Unicef, by an economic embargo that deprived the country of basic medicines. "I think this is a very hard choice but the price – we think the price is worth it," she replied.

Albright's deputy in the new group will be Jeroen van der Veer, until recently the chief executive of Shell. Thanks to the makers of the film The Age of Stupid, we know that Shell's gas flaring in the Niger Delta releases more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than all the other sources of greenhouse gas emissions in sub-Saharan Africa combined. ...it is merely interested in grabbing as much of those resources as it can. That much was acknowledged by Rasmussen's predecessor as secretary-general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer before he stepped down over the summer. He spent much of his final year in the job predicting how climate change will increase competition between countries over water, territory and farmland. Nato should have an aggressive and interventionist role in disputes over resources, he suggested, by, for example, protecting oil and gas pipelines identified as critical to the west.
Cronin also makes the crucial connection between NATO's particularly grabby take on greenness, and its current civilian-shredding in Afghanistan[...]

Backing up Globalization with Military Might
New World Order Onslaught
by Karen Talbot
Covert Action Quarterly, Issue 68, Fall 1999
The U.S. and its NATO underlings undoubtedly will be vastly emboldened by their "success" in ensconcing themselves in Kosovo, Bosnia and the other remnants of Yugoslavia—Croatia, Slovenia and Macedonia. We can expect rapid steps to further fragment the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY). We can also expect the new mission of nuclear-armed NATO — intervening over so-called "humanitarian concerns" against sovereign nations—to be implemented elsewhere, with great speed, especially in the Caspian Sea/Caucuses areas of the former Soviet Union.
Burgeoning military alliances, with the U.S. at the helm, are likely to try intervening in a similar way against North Korea, China — any country refusing to be a "New World Order" colony by allowing its wealth and labor power to be plundered by the TNCs. The assault against Yugoslavia threw open the floodgates for new wars including wars of competition among the industrial powers, with nuclear weapons part of the equation.
President Bill Clinton recently praised NATO for its campaign in Kosovo saying the alliance could intervene elsewhere in Europe or in Africa to fight repression."We can do it now. We can do it tomorrow, if it is necessary, somewhere else," he told U.S. troops gathered at the Skopje, Macedonia airport. (1) ... Clinton and the leaders of the other NATO countries continue to glorify the aggression against Yugoslavia as "preventing a humanitarian catastrophe," "promoting democracy" and "keeping the peace "against a Hitler-like dictator who would not adhere to "peace" agreements. The public is being repeatedly assured that the means -the bombing of the people of Yugoslavia-were justified by the ends.

The ongoing media hype, including the unprecedented demonization of the Serbs, is designed to continue molding public opinion to accept the "justice" of the war. The unmistakable message is that the "Serbs got what they deserve." It also masterfully conceals, and therefore allows unimpeded momentum toward, the true goals behind the stepped-up saber-rattling of the world's super-power and its allies. This skillful disinformation campaign has been spectacularly successful in derailing sections of the traditional peace and progressive movement.
But, today, as never before, we need to tear away the mask of lies and disclose the real goals of this "new world order" imperialism and see clearly how it hurts workers and the poor within our own borders and globally. We need to see the ways in which military dominance increasingly works in close tandem with economic globalization, privatization and the drive for corporate super profits. This basic understanding is essential for paving the road to a powerful united worldwide resistance movement. Already, the U.S./NATO war against Yugoslavia has awakened millions of people to the ferocious nature of the U.S. corporate drive for world dominance. That process needs to be accelerated by exposing the palliatives designed to mislead the public and getting down to a true diagnosis which can help lead the peace and justice movement to an effective response. So let's examine some of the rationales for the war and then look at some of the real motives.

"We are all Taliban"
Last month Richard Holbrooke, the US state department's special representative, met students from Pakistan's north-west tribal areas. They were enraged by drone attacks, which – according to David Kilcullen , counterinsurgency adviser to General Petraeus – have eliminated only about 14 terrorist [SIC] leaders while killing 700 civilians. One young man told Holbrooke that he knew someone killed in a Predator drone strike. "You killed 10 members of his family," he said. Another claimed the strikes had unleashed a fresh wave of refugees. "Are many of them Taliban?" Holbrooke asked. "We are all Taliban," he replied.... http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/jun/16/obama-afghanistan-pa...

The Sham Debate Over Obama's Af-Pak War
A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford

If the Afghanistan-Pakistan war is a necessity, then it certainly must be escalated. President Obama's framing of the conflict leaves no room for peace, yet purported peace activists refuse to confront him. Such a movement is not simply shallow: “it is a fraud.”...
Once one accepts the Bush-Cheney – and now Obama-Biden – logic of necessary war, peace becomes impossible. To the extent that those who claim to be part of the U.S. peace movement remain ambivalent on Obama's war in Afghanistan and Pakistan, they become accomplices in the aggression.
The U.S. anti-war movement fails to institutionalize itself, acting only in fits and starts when it acts at all, because much of its leadership refuses to recognize the United States as an imperial power. They allow themselves to become enmeshed in phony debates about how U.S. forces should comport themselves in other people's countries, rather than question America's right to inflict itself on other peoples. They agonize over levels of U.S. military force deployed and monies spent; whether the frequency of U.S. atrocities is up or down; and embroil themselves in discussions of the relative merits of American-imposed puppet regimes. Shamefully, much of what passes for a U.S. peace movement has no more respect for international law than the administrations they protest against. They seek only a more benign imperialism, in which they can see themselves as the good guys.
To the extent that a purported peace movement accepts that the United States has any rights that smaller nations do not possess, it is not simply a shallow movement: it is a fraud – just as fraudulent as Barack Obama was as a “peace” candidate. Such a movement is helpless against the logic of imperial war, because it accepts the underlying premise, that the United States has a right to intervene in the affairs of others. If that is true, then U.S. General Stanley McChrystal should be commended and supported when he claims that all he wants to do is “protect” the Afghan people, whether they like it or not. At any rate, it's necessary. Obama says so.

The Myth of Talibanistan
By Pepe Escobar
http://informationclearinghouse.info/article22542.htm
May 04, 2009 "Asia Times" -- Apocalypse Now. Run for cover. The turbans are coming. This is the state of Pakistan today, according to the current hysteria disseminated by the Barack Obama administration and United States corporate media - from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to The New York Times. Even British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said on the record that Pakistani Talibanistan is a threat to the security of Britain....
Moreover, there's no evidence the Taliban, in Afghanistan or in Pakistan, have any capability to hit a target outside of "Af-Pak" (Afghanistan and Pakistan). That's mythical al-Qaeda's privileged territory. As for the nuclear hysteria of the Taliban being able to crack the Pakistani army codes for the country's nuclear arsenal ...even Obama, at his 100-day news conference, stressed the nuclear arsenal was safe....the military institution itself is backed by none other than the American army - with which it has been closely intertwined since the 1970s...
The myth of Talibanistan anyway is just a diversion, a cog in the slow-moving regional big wheel - which in itself is part of the new great game in Eurasia. During a first stage - let's call it the branding of evil - Washington think-tanks and corporate media hammered non-stop on the "threat of al-Qaeda" to Pakistan and the US. FATA was branded as terrorist central - the most dangerous place in the world where "the terrorists" and an army of suicide bombers were trained and unleashed into Afghanistan to kill the "liberators" of US/NATO. In the second stage, the new Obama administration accelerated the Predator "hell from above" drone war over Pashtun peasants. Now comes the stage where the soon over 100,000-strong US/NATO troops are depicted as the true liberators of the poor in Af-Pak (and not the "evil" Taliban) - an essential ploy in the new narrative to legitimize Obama's Af-Pak surge....[the] Zardari government is starting to consider that the previous uber-bogeyman, a certain Osama bin Laden, is no more than a ghost. Drones can incinerate any single Pashtun wedding in sight. But international bogeymen of mystery - Osama, Baitullah, Mullah Omar - star players in the new OCO (overseas contingency operations), formerly GWOT ("global war on terror"), of course deserve star treatment.
Pepe Escobar is the author of Globalistan: How the Globalized World is Dissolving into Liquid War (Nimble Books, 2007) and Red Zone Blues: a snapshot of Baghdad during the surge. His new book, just out, is Obama does Globalistan (Nimble Books, 2009). He may be reached at pepeasia@yahoo.com

Has Osama Bin Laden been dead for seven years - U.S. and Britain covering it up to continue war on terror?
By Sue Reid
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1212851/Has-Osama-Bin-Laden-dead...
September 12, 2009 - ... Bin Laden has been the central plank of the West's 'war on terror'.... Barack Obama has launched a fresh operation to find him. Working with the Pakistani Army, elite squads of U.S. and British special forces were sent into Waziristan this summer to 'hunt and kill' the shadowy figure intelligence officers still call 'the principal target' of the war on terror. This new offensive is, of course, based on the premise that the 9/11 terrorist is alive. After all, there are the plethora of 'Bin Laden tapes' to prove it. Yet what if he isn't? What if he has been dead for years, and the British and U.S. intelligence services are actually playing a game of double bluff What if everything we have seen or heard of him on video and audio tapes since the early days after 9/11 is a fake - and that he is being kept 'alive' by the Western allies to stir up support for the war on terror?...
The theory ... gaining credence among political commentators, respected academics and even terror experts....first received an airing in the American Spectator magazine earlier this year when former U.S. foreign intelligence officer and senior editor Angelo M. Codevilla, a professor of international relations at Boston University, stated bluntly: 'All the evidence suggests Elvis Presley is more alive today than Osama Bin Laden.'...
This week, still more questions have been raised with the publication in America and Britain of a book called Osama Bin Laden: Dead or Alive? by political analyst and philosopher Professor David Ray Griffin, former emeritus professor at California's Claremont School of Theology... On December 13, 2001 - the date Griffin claims Bin Laden died...the U.S. Government released a new video... In this tape, Bin Laden contradicted all his previous denials, and suddenly admitted his involvement in the atrocity of 9/11.The tape had reportedly been found by U.S. troops in a private home in Jalalabad, Afghanistan...A label attached to it claimed that it had been made on November 9, 2001.... The tape shows Bin Laden talking with a visiting sheik. In it, he clearly states he not only knew about the 9/11 atrocities in advance, but had planned every detail personally. This put the terrorist back in the frame over 9/11. The Washington Post quoted U.S. officials saying the video 'offers the most convincing evidence of a connection between Bin Laden and the September 11 attacks'. http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57866

New Army Handbook Teaches Afghanistan Lessons
“Small-Unit Operations in Afghanistan” ...123-page handbook, produced by the Center for Army Lessons Learned, are being distributed throughout the service and are available to NATO allies and other nations with troops in Afghanistan. The handbook’s publication...was first noted by a blog operated by the Combined Arms Center, the Army’s headquarters for advanced learning and leader development at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. The blogger, Frontier 6, said the handbook drew together lessons of successes in Afghanistan, as well as what has been gleaned from operations when Americans left the battlefield badly bloodied....It is perhaps one of the worst-kept secrets in the Army, but Frontier 6 is the Internet alias of Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, the Fort Leavenworth commander and occasional blogger, who previously served as the top military spokesman in Iraq.

Combat commanders acknowledge how much they rely on the analysis and lessons-learned manuals sent from headquarters back in the United States. “The education of our force is the best weapon we have,” said Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the new commander in Afghanistan. “Counterinsurgency is complex, nuanced and ever-changing, and success is dependent on a fighting force that can recognize these changes and adapt to them.”
In distilling lessons into practical advice for the troops, General Caldwell is building on an effort brought to popular attention by a predecessor, Gen. David H. Petraeus, now commander of American forces in the Middle East. Under General Petraeus’s leadership at Fort Leavenworth, the military released a counterinsurgency field manual credited with helping turn around the war in Iraq and ending the armed services’ focus on heavily armored conventional warfare. With that manual’s release, the American military was forced to embrace the messy irregular warfare that had been the core competency solely of a small specialty branch in the armed services — the Army Special Forces, known as Green Berets....

imperialist continuity in word and deed
Obama's said please call it "overseas contingency operations", but 'terror war' is apparently in again....as if it ever stopped
Press Secretary Robert Gibbs ...used the abandoned phrase Monday in response to a question about the current situation in Afghanistan. "You can't under-resource the most important part of our War on Terror, you can't under-resource that for five or six or seven years... and hope to snap your fingers and have that turn around in just a few months," Gibbs said during the daily briefing to reporters. The phrase "War on Terror" coined during the Bush administration after Sept. 11, 2001 attacks has not been used by the current White House, whose budget request referred to "overseas contingency operations." Secretary of State Hillary Clinton confirmed in March that the administration had stopped using "War on Terror" but the president's own counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, went beyond that early last month telling reporters that "describing our efforts as a 'global war' only plays into the warped narrative that al Qaeda propagates." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/01/phrase-war-terror-returns-whi...

Court Rejects Suit Against CACI Over Abu Ghraib Torture
Contractor Granted Wartime Immunity
By Mike Musgrove, Washington Post Staff Writer
September 12, 2009 - A federal appeals court rejected a lawsuit Friday against CACI International that accused the firm's employees of taking part in the torture and abuse of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. In a 2 to 1 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit dismissed the case on the grounds that CACI should be immune from prosecution because the company's employees were under U.S. military authority... http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57869

Obama Administration Moves to Keep Terror Watch-List Data Strictly Hush-Hush
Tom Burghardt, Antifascist Calling...
September 11, 2009 - During his 2008 run for the presidency, Senator Barack Obama promised to reverse the Bush regime's pathological penchant for secrecy and the illegal programs that flourished in darkness like so many poisonous mushrooms. Administration backpedaling on promises to end the more onerous features of the Bush years betray, not so much Obama's duplicity but rather, the naïve and misplaced hope b y his supporters that a centrist Democrat beholden to the corporate pirates and militarists who rule the roost, would actually do things any differently. In areas of critical importance to civil libertarians, the Democratic regime continues to beef up Bushist programs and heighten government secrecy while limiting public accountability, particularly where the intelligence and security apparatus is concerned... http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57842

US Girl Scouts prepare for war, pestilence
The United States wants to enlist its 3.4 million Girl Scouts in the effort to combat hurricanes, pandemics, terror attacks and other disasters. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) launched a campaign Tuesday to entice the blue, brown and green-clad multitudes to be even more prepared, with the promise of a new patch if they pitch in.... During World War II, Girl Scouts "operated bicycle courier services, invested more than 48,000 hours in Farm Aid projects, collected fat and scrap metal, and grew Victory Gardens," according to Girl Scouts of the USA. As the end of the second millennium neared and computers around the world were expected to be stricken with a debilitating bug, Girl Scouts were enlisted in some parts of the country to hand out advice about the threat poised by Y2K. After the September 11, 2001 attacks scouts hosted remembrance ceremonies and wrote thank-you letters to rescuer workers.

US snubs film on theory of evolution
ANITA SINGH
http://www.smh.com.au/world/us-snubs-film-on-theory-of-evolution-2009091...
A BRITISH film about Charles Darwin has failed to find a US distributor because his theory of evolution is too controversial for American audiences. US distributors turned down the film that will prove divisive in a country where, according to a Gallup poll taken in February, only 39 per cent of people believe in the theory of evolution.... Jeremy Thomas, the Oscar-winning producer, said... "That's what we're up against, in 2009...It's amazing. It has got a deal everywhere else in the world but in the US, and it's because of what the film is about. It has been sold in almost every territory around the world, from Australia to Scandinavia.
Movieguide.org, an influential site that reviews films from a Christian perspective, described Darwin as the father of eugenics and denounced him as "a racist, a bigot and an 1800s naturalist whose legacy is mass murder". His "half-baked theory" influenced Adolf Hitler and led to "atrocities, crimes against humanity, cloning and genetic engineering", the site stated. The film, based on the book Annie's Box by Darwin's great-great-grand-son, Randal Keynes, has caused debate on other Christian websites in America.

Fifty questions on 9/11
By Pepe Escobar , THE ROVING EYE
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/KI11Ak02.html
It's September 11 all over again - eight years on. The George W Bush administration is out. The "global war on terror" is still on, renamed "overseas contingency operations" by the Barack Obama administration. Obama's "new strategy" - a war escalation - is in play in AfPak. Osama bin Laden may be dead or not. "Al-Qaeda" remains a catch-all ghost entity. September 11 - the neo-cons' "new Pearl Harbor" - remains the darkest jigsaw puzzle of the young 21st century.
It's useless to expect US corporate media and the ruling elites' political operatives to call for a true, in-depth investigation into the attacks on the US on September 11, 2001. Whitewash has been the norm. But even establishment highlight Dr Zbig "Grand Chessboard" Brzezinski, a former national security advisor, has admitted to the US Senate that the post-9/11 "war on terror" is a "mythical historical narrative".
The following questions, some multi-part - and most totally ignored by the 9/11 Commission - are just the tip of the immense 9/11 iceberg. A hat tip goes to the indefatigable work of 911truth.org; whatreallyhappened.com; architects and engineers for 9/11 truth; the Italian documentary Zero: an investigation into 9/11; and Asia Times Online readers' e-mails.
None of these questions has been convincingly answered - according to the official narrative. It's up to US civil society to keep up the pressure. Eight years after the fact, one fundamental conclusion is imperative. The official narrative edifice of 9/11 is simply not acceptable. Fifty questions: [...]

Explosive Theory

Just a few years ago Ed Munyak, a fire protection engineer for the city of San Jose, seemed like a lonely, out-there figure, a sometimes-target because of his outspoken position on the events of Sept. 11, 2001. These days, hundreds of other building trade professionals have joined him in challenging the official narrative about the collapse of three buildings at New York's World Trade Center (WTC) on that fateful, traumatic day. Munyak, of Los Altos Hills, is a mechanical and fire engineer whose job is to review building plans to ensure they comply with the California Building and Fire Code. In 2007, after speaking out on his own for a few years, Munyak signed on with a then-fledging organization called Architects and Engineers for 911 Truth, founded by Bay Area architect Richard Gage. Today, far from being isolated, Munyak now counts as allies 804 professional architects and building engineers from around the country. Collectively, they have joined Munyak's call for an independent technical investigation of the causes of the WTC buildings collapse. In doing so, they reject the federal government's conclusions that two airplanes alone brought the buildings down—without the aid of pre-planted explosives. Munyak and his fellow AE911 supporters recently received acknowledgement from the FBI's counterterrorism division, which concluded that the organization's core evidence deserves—and will get—FBI scrutiny. In a letter, Deputy Director Michael J. Heimbach assessed AE911's presentation as "backed by thorough research and analysis."
Note: WantToKnow Team member David Ray Griffin has just published a detailed critique of the fraudulent "science" in the latest government publication defending the official account of the collapse of WTC 7.

Firefighters for 9-11 Truth is a non-partisan association of firefighters and affiliates created to increase awareness, provide public education, demand a real investigation that follows National Standards, and provide support to our Brothers and Sisters in need. We are deeply troubled by the “official” story, and the way the rescue workers from Ground Zero are being forgotten. We believe there is overwhelming evidence of obstruction of justice, and destruction of evidence voiced even by numerous 9/11 Commissioners themselves. Senator Cleland resigned from the Commission stating, “This investigation is now compromised.”
NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 921, which is the National Standard for Fire and Explosion Investigations, very clearly indicates in numerous sections that the possibility of explosives should have been thoroughly investigated. Specifically in NFPA 921 18.3.2 High Order Damage ...So, why was the possibility of explosives, controlled demolition, or the use of “exotic accelerants” not thoroughly investigated, or even mentioned in the 9-11 Commission Report?

CAPITALISM IMPOVERISHES FOR PROFIT - PROFITS FROM IMPOVERISHMENT
Bank Risk-taking Back 1Year Later
A year after the financial system nearly collapsed, the nation's biggest banks are bigger and regaining their appetite for risk. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and others — which have received billions of dollars in federal aid — are once more betting big on bonds, commodities and exotic financial products... one thing fundamental to Wall Street hasn't changed: Big banks and their traders are still finding creative — some say speculative — ways to profit.... "It may be unpleasant to hear that the traders are riding high," said Walter Bailey, chief executive of boutique merchant banking firm EpiGroup. "But, hey, it's a pay-for-performance thing, and they're performing like mad." And that means the return of another Wall Street mainstay: Lavish compensation.

US Census Bureau Confirms Rising Poverty, Falling Incomes, and Growing Numbers of Uninsured
Stephen Lendman
September 14, 2009 -
In early September, The US Census Bureau released its new report titled, "Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2008" showing disturbing data that portends much worse ahead under a president and Congress doing nothing to address it. In 2008, poverty reached 13.2% of the population, its highest level in 11 years, the result of millions losing jobs during the first y ear of the gravest economic crisis since the 1930s. For blacks, the figure was nearly double at 24.7%, and 31% of all Americans were impoverished for at least two months between 2004 and 2007, years of economic expansion. At yearend 2008, even by the Bureau's conservative measures, 39.8 million people were impoverished, the highest level since 1960, and 17.1 million lived in extreme poverty below one-half the official threshold... http://www.uruknet.de/?p=57916

Wall Street Pursues Profit in Bundles of Life Insurance
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/business/06insurance.html?_r=1&th=&emc...
After the mortgage business imploded last year, Wall Street investment banks began searching for another big idea to make money. They think they may have found one.
The bankers plan to buy “life settlements,” life insurance policies that ill and elderly people sell for cash — $400,000 for a $1 million policy, say, depending on the life expectancy of the insured person. Then they plan to “securitize” these policies, in Wall Street jargon, by packaging hundreds or thousands together into bonds. They will then resell those bonds to investors, like big pension funds, who will receive the payouts when people with the insurance die.... some in the industry predict the market could reach $500 billion. That would help Wall Street offset the loss of revenue from the collapse of the United States residential mortgage securities market, to $169 billion so far this year from a peak of $941 billion in 2005, according to Dealogic, a firm that tracks financial data....

The earlier the policyholder dies, the bigger the return — though if people live longer than expected, investors could get poor returns or even lose money. Either way, Wall Street would profit by pocketing sizable fees for creating the bonds, reselling them and subsequently trading them.... In addition to fraud, there is another potential risk for investors: that some people could live far longer than expected.... The solution? A bond made up of life settlements would ideally have policies from people with a range of diseases — leukemia, lung cancer, heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s. That is because if too many people with leukemia are in the securitization portfolio, and a cure is developed, the value of the bond would plummet.... But even with a math whiz calculating every possibility, some risks may not be apparent until after the fact. How can a computer accurately predict what would happen if health reform passed, for example, and better care for a large number of Americans meant that people generally started living longer? Or if a magic-bullet cure for all types of cancer was developed? If the computer models were wrong, investors could lose a lot of money....
Goldman Sachs has developed a tradable index of life settlements, enabling investors to bet on whether people will live longer than expected or die sooner than planned. The index is similar to tradable stock market indices that allow investors to bet on the overall direction of the market without buying stocks. Defenders of life settlements argue that creating a market to allow the ill or elderly to sell their policies for cash is a public service....
The idea is still in the planning stages. But already “our phones have been ringing off the hook with inquiries,” says Kathleen Tillwitz, a senior vice president at DBRS, which gives risk ratings to investments and is reviewing nine proposals for life-insurance securitizations from private investors and financial firms...“We’re hoping to get a herd stampeding after the first offering,” said one investment banker not authorized to speak to the news media....

Obama's speech drew a map to his vision of reform
By David Brooks
President Obama's speech gave clear indications of where he wants health-care legislation to go. Wednesday night, Barack Obama delivered the finest speech of his presidency. The exposition of his health-care views was clear and lively. The invocation of Teddy Kennedy was moving and effective. The rumination at the end about the American character and the role of government was the clearest summary of Obama's political philosophy that he has yet given us. Best of all for those of us who admire the political craft was the speech's seductive nature and careful ambiguity. Obama threw out enough rhetorical chum to keep the liberals happy, yet he subtly staked out ground in the center on nearly every substantive issue in order to win over the moderates needed to get anything passed [...]

Healthy Profits: Corporate Money Moves Tell the True Tale of Obama's "Reforms"

September 11, 2009 - Want to know the true significance of Barack Obama's speech on health care "reform" Wednesday night? Then just follow the money ... Of course there will be no reform, and there was never going to be. Obama is going to "reform" America's broken health care system the same way he has "reformed" the War on Terror and "reformed" Wall Street: by taking the existing policies and making them even worse...

Private health insurance lobbyist throws fundraiser for Nancy Pelosi: Report

Steve Elmendorf of Elmendorf Strategies Governmant Affairs Solutions announced a fundraiser at his own home, under the title "Event with House Speaker Pelosi at my home," to take place September 24. Admission is $2.400 for individuals, and $5,000 for representatives of political action committees. Elmendorf's Web site lists UnitedHealth as one of his clients....
The Bloomberg article references statements Pelosi made in late July, when she told the press : "It's almost immoral what they [the health insurance companies] are doing. ... Pelosi’s ‘Immoral’ Insurers May Gain in Obama Plan
By Alex Nussbaum, Sept. 11
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aZCmcqE8r3PA

The U.S. health-care overhaul proposed in Congress will do more than impose greater controls on private insurers. It will also swell their profits. New legislation may generate 10 million more customers for Amerigroup Corp., UnitedHealth Group Inc. and other companies that administer Medicaid, the government plan that covers the poorest Americans, according to James Carlson , Amerigroup’s chief executive officer. Molina Healthcare Inc ’s Medicaid enrollment may jump by 43 percent, CEO J. Mario Molina said. WellPoint Inc., the largest U.S. insurer, may also gain.
While President Barack Obama pitched his revamping of health care as a bid to “keep insurance companies honest,” expanding Medicaid is likely to offset any losses from new regulations and taxes, at least for insurers who specialize in the program, Carlson said. “Most of what we’re reading would grow our business dramatically,” he said in an interview. “I don’t think you can say that about a lot of other participants in the health-care system.”
That means more revenue for an industry House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called “immoral” and the chief obstacle to covering the uninsured, in an Aug. 1 interview with the California Democrat. Expanding the program has emerged as one of the least- controversial items on Obama’s health-care agenda, said Carl McDonald an Oppenheimer & Co. insurance analyst in New York.... Congress’ final plan will likely add 5 million to 10 million people nationwide to Medicaid, phased in over several years, said Carlson, the CEO of Virginia Beach, Virginia-based Amerigroup. That would enlarge the “addressable market” for all Medicaid companies by a quarter, he said....Obama and allies on Capitol Hill are pushing legislation to cover more of the 46 million uninsured in the U.S. at a potential cost of $900 billion or more over a decade... estimates assume each enrollee generates $200 a month, with [average] 3 percent profit margin.... A Sept. 8 proposal by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, Montana Democrat, would impose annual fees of $6 billion on insurers to help fund the overhaul.
Medicaid Market
Molina, which provides coverage for 1.4 million people, expects to add as many as 600,000 customers, CEO Molina said...The company typically gets $200 per Medicaid patient per month from states and keeps about $4 in profit, the CEO said. At that rate, the extra patients from Obama’s overhaul would raise earnings by $28.8 million a year. The company forecast $56 million in net income this year in an Aug. 4 statement. The insurer, now in 10 states, is seeking to expand its reach in advance of the legislation, Mario Molina said. “When the states see their Medicaid rolls growing and realize the need to better manage these folks, we think they are going to come to us,” he said in a telephone interview....

MAN 'SURVIVES EXECUTION' AFTER 2 HR. STATE TORTURE TO KILL HIM
Strickland stopped Romell Broom's execution after executioners tried unsuccessfully for two hours to find a usable vein. Broom, who at one point wiped his face with a tissue and appeared to be weeping, told his attorneys he was pricked as many as 18 times....Lawyers plan state and federal lawsuits and a request to Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland to stop next week's unprecedented second execution attempt of a man whose lethal injection failed on Tuesday. Cleveland attorney Tim Sweeney said Thursday that he expects lawsuits to be filed no later than Friday in an effort to halt the next attempt to put Romell Broom to death. Sweeney argues that a second try at an execution is unconstitutional. At the very least, he said, Strickland should further delay Tuesday's execution... Another execution attempt could include the same veins they tried accessing Tuesday or other points on his arms, legs or feet ... Broom "sustained both physical and mental injuries," Sweeney said. "It's going to take time for all the psychic trauma to dissipate. Even if it never goes away, I think it's wrong to try to do it again so quickly in these circumstances."...
The fact that Broom survived the execution "creates a singular opportunity to confirm that he, in fact, experienced serious pain in violation of his constitutional rights, not just a 'substantial risk' of serious pain," David Stebbins and Allen Bohnert argued in a court filing...
The only case similar to the Broom execution happened in Louisiana in 1946, when a first attempt to execute Willie Francis did not work. Francis was returned to death row for nearly a year while the U.S. Supreme Court considered whether a second electrocution would be unconstitutional. The court ultimately ruled against Francis 5-4 and he was put to death in 1947.

The Brute Factory
By John S. Hatch
September 01, 2009
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article23409.htm
Henry Kissinger once referred to military service people as ‘dumb, stupid animals to be used’ as tools of foreign policy. One wonders if this man of no regrets nevertheless wishes he had not vocalized what in fact has been the position of successive US governments including the present one? Madeleine Albright, after famously stating that the undisputed deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children due to hunger and easily preventable diseases during the post Gulf War I sanctions ‘were worth it’ later admitted that the statement did not have a nice ring to it. But Herr Doktor doesn’t apologise. Not for millions of deaths in Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Laos. Not for Agent Orange. Not for Operation Phoenix. Not for demanding more death in Iraq.

But could his swinish assertion be true? After all, hundreds of thousands went willingly to Viet Nam, or allowed themselves to be sent virtually as killer slaves to magically protect ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’ by murdering peasant men, women and babies, by drowning them in buckets, throwing them out of helicopters, raping women and then shooting them in the back of the head. Often they helicopter bombed every shanty in every random village they came across. They drove themselves insane in their frenzy of violence. Once there, there was no return from the reptile side. Fifty-eight thousand died for nothing, as it turned out, because Sec Def McNamara had miscalculated the Domino Effect. Oops. An unknown number committed suicide, committed murder back home, or were shot by police. ‘We don’t do body counts.’
Dumb, stupid animals. But even animals don’t behave like that. Not even stupid ones. Well, homo americanus does, over and over...

Capitalizing on the outrage and disgust of the American people... Barack Obama promised change. ‘Change you can believe in.’ Transparency. Honesty. Re-Constitution. Hope.
And then he delivered—Omerta.
He joined the Cheney crime family, or perhaps he was a member all along.... to ‘look forward’, as if massive war crimes and crimes against humanity can be dismissed, erased if you just pretend hard enough that they didn’t happen, or that they don’t matter. Albright’s children, all over again. Ragheads, after all. By that logic, OJ should be head of the Department of Justice. Or maybe even President. In this looking-glass world, anything can happen. Bad things.
As a sop, maybe a couple more Lyndie Englands will go to jail, even though at the very least one hundred and eight people are known to have been tortured to death on orders that came right from the top in the Bush Administration (Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Rice, Bybee, Yoo…). How many homicide charges have been laid? Americans who put to death Japanese and Germans for ‘just following orders’ (in the case of some Japanese, the crime was waterboarding), now cite it as a legitimate defense while excusing those who gave the orders in the first place. If hypocrisy could kill, Washington would be a ghost town, and the world would be a better place.
And meanwhile reports that Guantanamo guards are still crazy with sadistic violence in anticipation of its closing (an event upon which I would not take bets). There still exists an unknown number of ‘black’ sites at undisclosed locations, where conditions might be even worse. Red Cross not welcome. Bagram prison in Afghanistan is being expanded, its hopeless inhabitants still denied all human rights under Mr. Obama, who asserts that many prisoners will never be tried or released. Thousands of children remain imprisoned. Meanwhile any suggestion that inmates be moved to US soil is met with the most hysterical shrieks of protest by residents, terrified out of their dim little wits of ‘terrorists’ who are mostly innocent kidnap victims, bought for ransom by a shameless US government, the successor to which would rather see them die in captivity than admit its predecessor’s criminal mistakes.
It’s very difficult to watch President Obama talk of America’s greatness with a straight face in the midst of such moral degeneracy.... Even as America goes bankrupt, there are always calls for more military, more bases, more guns. Less butter.
When it comes to America, perhaps it’s not just the military who are comprised of ‘dumb stupid animals’. Kissinger must be laughing his ass off. Cheney too. Welcome to the brute factory. It’s a veritable slaughterhouse. John S. Hatch is a Vancouver writer and film-maker .

Will we make this and other such organizing a new beginning?

On the whole, capitalism is growing far more rapidly than before: but this growth is not only becoming more and more uneven in general, its unevenness also manifests itself, in particular, in the decay of the countries which are richest in capital..The export of capital, one of the most essential economic bases of imperialism, still more completely isolates the coupon-clipping rentiers from production and sets the seal of parasitism on the whole country that lives by exploiting the labour of overseas countries and colonies...." Death squads, disappearances and torture in Pakistan

An official Scottish review body declared a "miscarriage of justice may have occurred" in the conviction of the Libyan intelligence officer, Abdelbaset al-Megrahi.

...Dick Marquise, chief of the FBI "Scotbom Task Force" 1988-1992, said investigators could find nothing later to link the [alleged Palestinian] plot with Lockerbie. "We never found any evidence... not one shred of evidence that a prosecutor could take into court to convict either an official in Iran or Ahmed Jibril for blowing up Pan Am flight 103" he told BBC.

By 2005, NATO had become an alliance of 26, engaged in eight simultaneous operations on four continents with the help of 20 partners in Eurasia, seven in the Mediterranean, four in the Persian Gulf, and a handful of capable contributors on our periphery." [1]

The updated details of what he was alluding to are these:

"U.S. created and supported Jundallah"

The Bloomberg article references statements Pelosi made in late July, when she told the press : "It's almost immoral what they [the health insurance companies] are doing. ... Of course they've been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure. They are the villains. They have been part of the problem in a major way.
