The Los Angeles Times has ordered its journalists to stop describing anti-American forces in Iraq as resistance fighters, saying the term romanticises them and evokes World War II-era heroism. An email circulated this week asked staff to instead use the terms insurgents or guerillas.

Now 5 years later, after destroying the country and slaughtering over a million Iraqis, u.s.blames undefeatable anti-imperialist resistance on 'terrorists', usually...

SOME PAST & PRESENT HISTORY OF AMERIKAN EGALITARIAN HUMANITARIANISM

"...depopulation should be the highest priority of U.S. foreign policy towards the Third World."
Henry Kissinger, National Security Memo 200, April 24, 1974

Note: U.S. calls fighting off U.S. history of imperialist subversion "xenophobia"
Myanmar appears to nix US Navy help, saying "strings attached"
N http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/05/22/asia/AS-GEN-Myanmar-US-Militar...
BANGKOK, Thailand: With their history of xenophobia, no one expected Myanmar's generals to welcome with open arms an uninvited flotilla of U.S. warships trying to help bring relief to millions severely affected by Cyclone Nargis...
Instead, Myanmar gave a go-ahead for a far smaller operation of 10 helicopters from the U.N.'s World Food Program — which must be chartered, flown in on cargo planes and reassembled in Bangkok. "The strings attached to the relief supplies carried by warships and military helicopters are not acceptable to the Myanmar people," said the New Light of Myanmar newspaper, a mouthpiece for the ruling junta.
"This is purely a humanitarian mission," said Lt. Col. Douglas Powell, a spokesman for the stalled Operation Caring Response.
The media report hinted that Myanmar's real fear is that the U.S. would use the disaster as a pretext to invade and take control of Myanmar's oil reserves.
So instead of utilizing the U.S. military's assets, Myanmar has agreed to allow a relief operation focused more on the use of the helicopters operated by the World Food Program. It has also been more open to aid from neighboring countries such as Thailand and India.

" U.S. military presence in the region is indispensable to hedging against a burgeoning Chinese military capability...."
Guidelines for U.S. Policy in Southeast Asia
by Walter Lohman,

ASEAN can be much greater than the sum of its parts. It can grow strong and remain independent, and it can be a reliable U.S. partner far into the future. It is this long-term vision that should be the basis of U.S. foreign policy aspirations. The purpose of this paper is to lay out the stakes involved, guidelines for securing them, and specific policy recommendations.

Southeast Asia's half-billion people reside in the most dynamic area of the world. China, a rising economic and military power with an economy of more than $2 trillion and a population of over 1 billion, sits on their northern doorstep. India, another billion-person nation, is outside their western door. Japan, which has the world's second largest economy, and South Korea, a country with such energy that it maintains an economy the size of India's with only 5 percent of India's population, are each a short flight away.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)—composed of Burma, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam—faces the challenge of safeguarding its interests and prospering in this hypercompetitive neighborhood. The United States has an overarching interest in seeing that it succeeds while also remaining independent and outward-looking.Securing this strategic imperative relies on two mutually reinforcing approaches to the region: bilateral and U.S.–ASEAN.

"A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude."

digest comment:
KATRINA KILLERS, WORST MASS MURDERERS IN MODERN HISTORY, KEEP SHOCKING THE WORLD WITH COLD-BLOODED, CRIMINAL DEPRAVITY...
After some perfunctory phony 'humanitarian' questions the u.s. media gets to the point, arrogantly grilling China's ambassador about the political damage to China and its 'coming out' Olympics party from all the recent assaults it has undergone ... relentless anti-China bashing of its most feared capitalist strategic, rival the u.s. engineered 'dalai lama 'free tibet/darfur' massive psywar propaganda campaign ...now this 'natural disaster. With disingenuous 'concern' NPR interrogated him about China's opinion of Myanmar's refusal of u.s. "aid" [i.e. u.s. military intervention on top of the thousands of pro-u.s. missionaries, NGOs, u.n. personnel, etc. already well-entrenched and actively subverting the regime.]. It's beyond comprehension how nations and their dignitaries tolerate u.s. imperialist propaganda trickery on top of crimes to undermine their national sovereignty. As the digest has pointed out before, the irony is that China was u.s. most feared 'enemy' as a revolutionary socialist country, now it is again enemy #1 because it has too successfully restored capitalism and the inevitable political inequality and contradictions inherent in capitalism.

5/8/8 U.S.Aid to Myanmar: "The political effects of natural disasters are difficult to predict."

digest commentary:

THE INHUMAN DESTRUCTION AND SUFFERING IN MYANMAR, AND MOST OF THE WORLD, IS FUNDAMENTALLY MAN-MADE. MAINLY AT THIS MOMENT IN HISTORY, MADE-IN-U.S. THE SYSTEMIC POVERTY and FAMINE IN OPPRESSED NATIONS IS PRODUCED BY GLOBALIZED CAPITALISM (e.g. imperialism), SINCE THE U.S. 'FIXED' AN EARLIER CRISIS VIA WORLD WAR 2 TO SECURE GLOBAL DOMINATION....ITS 'MANIFEST DESTINY'.

U.S. "AID" DEEPENS THE HORRIFIC CONDITIONS ITS DOMINATION CREATES. YET THIS MONSTROUS SYSTEM, GROWN FAT ON GENOCIDE, SLAVERY AND WAR, CONVINCES CLASS & RACE PRIVILEGED BENEFICIARIES IT IS THE 'CURE' FOR ITS SAVAGE PREDATIONS ... WITH THEIR SUPPORT. DRESS UP THESE MACHIAVELLIAN EXERCISES IN EXQUISITELY CONSTRUCTED PROPAGANDA, THROW IN A FEW PRO-DEMOCRACY 'COLOR REVOLUTIONS' FUNDED BY U.S. & NGO GLOBAL 'INITIATIVES' TO 'NATION-BUILD FAILED STATES' AGAINST 'TERRORISTS' PLOTTING TO SINK GOOD-SHIP-LOLLIPOP'S HUMANITARIAN MISSIONS, CREATE FREQUENT DIRE THREATS TO LOYAL CITIZENS' NATIONAL SECURITY, ESPECIALLY 'INTERCEPTED PLOTS' BY DARK-SKINNED 'EXTREMISTS' JEALOUS OF OUR GOODS, AND BEHIND IT ALL, EVERYWHERE, ARABS, MUSLIMS, TRYING TO UNDEMOCRATICALLY TAKE OVER THE WORLD, UNGRATEFUL FOR OUR AID AND DEVELOPMENT IN IRAQ, PALESTINE, AFRICA, AND ALL CORNERS OF THE GLOBE IT CONSIDERS ITS PRIVATE PROPERTY.

Historically u.s. capitalism has (temporarily) resolved deep structural crises (as opposed to trade cyclical crises) by restructuring global capital and the world map under its hegemony via imperialist war. This is the intended function of the bogus 'war on terrorism'. The fact that it has boomeranged and exacerbated the capital crisis, means U.S. measures in the 'homeland' and worldwide will become ever more extreme: increasingly it must tighten the fascist infrastructure screws revealing its basic predatory nature.

4/27/8 Killing Hunger

Digest commentary:
Super-exploitation, savage state terrorist oppression, war, starvation, illness and genocidal slaughter is the bedrock of amerika and its bloody empire. Racism is the ideology driving and justifying its war against oppressed nations and peoples worldwide, and here in the ghettos and barrios of the beast.

So-called "developing" countries, oppressed nations, are plundered and pillaged by capitalist development, investment and "humanitarian aid". Imperialist "solutions" to the crises it creates are pretexts for intensifying and expanding capital domination. Last week it discovered a "new food crisis", caused by "high prices" calling for more "free trade" and other killer U.S.. UN, WB, IMF etc. interventions. Maximizing capital accumulation requiring the elimination of rivals and resistance is systemic necessity, not electoral policy, necessary and relentless because capital is insatiable, it must expand ... or die. Dehumanizing and eradicating "collateral", billions of "unproductive" "surplus" human beings is the part of its "business model".

But in its exceptionally racist arrogance what capital's henchmen cannot deal with is the subversive, revolutionary potential of the debasement and impoverishment it creates...the fact that capitalism ultimately produces its own gravediggers as Marx put it.

"GLOBALIZED" CRIMINAL U.S. JUSTICE
Justice dept. Gives C.I.A. Tactics Legal Rationale
“The fact that an act is undertaken to prevent a threatened terrorist attack, rather than for the purpose of humiliation or abuse, would be relevant to a reasonable observer in measuring the outrageousness of the act ...
“to rise to the level of an outrage” and thus be prohibited under the Geneva Conventions, conduct “must be so deplorable that the reasonable observer would recognize it as something that should be universally condemned”

"The CIA owns everyone of any significance in the major media"
former CIA Director William Colby (died suddenly after freak canoe accident) Bernstein's 1977 Oct. Rolling stone article.

1997 US Army War College: "WE HAVE ENTERED AN AGE OF CONSTANT CONFLICT..."
"We, the winners, are a minority......We live in an age of multiple truths. He who warns of the "clash of civilizations" is incontestably right.....One of the defining bifurcations of the future will be the conflict between information masters and information victims.......
Information destroys traditional jobs and traditional cultures; it seduces, betrays, yet remains invulnerable. How can you counterattack the information others have turned upon you? There is no effective option other than competitive performance. For those individuals and cultures that cannot join or compete with our information empire, there is only inevitable failure (of note, the internet is to the techno-capable disaffected what the United Nations is to marginal states: it offers the illusion of empowerment and community) ... The next century will indeed be American, but it will also be troubled. We will find ourselves in constant conflict, much of it violent. The United States Army is going to add a lot of battle streamers to its flag. We will wage information warfare, but we will fight with infantry. And we will always surprise those critics, domestic and foreign, who predict our decline..." [...]

Pro-China demonstrators target Dalai Lama's UW visit
More than 300 pro-China students and professionals rallied Monday afternoon at the University of Washington in anticipation of the Dalai Lama's campus visit.... Seattle Center School senior Katie Mesmer said... "With the war in Iraq, it's sort of overwhelming...Especially for a young person, it seems like we're entering a world where violence is endemic, so what can we do to be compassionate and not angry and retaliatory?" she asked....The Dalai Lama said "a little fight" is sometimes necessary, showing off fingernails that were his best weapon against his older brother as a child. "Everyone would be very kind to each other," he said. "If anybody wanted something, somebody would just give it to them right away ... and everyone would be happy."
There were no demonstrators when the Dalai Lama returned to the University of Washington for one of the final events of the five-day Seeds of Compassion conference in Seattle....
