1/1/8 U.S. Supremacy vs. Changing Balance of World Power in 2008

Digest note:
The article below, "balance of world power changing rapidly" reveals the urgency driving the rulers of U.S. capital in crisis to expand and secure u.s. domination before it's too late. This desperate juggernaut, billed as a 'war on terror', is boomeranging, exacerbating the very contradictions underlying u.s. capital's strategic weakness that the imperialist world war was designed to relieve. 2008 will bring this world-destroyer closer to extinction as millions more, subjected to its unspeakable murderous misery, rise up. Will you be part of that solution?

Balance of world power is changing rapidly
The Statesman - Kolkata,India
Many wished and believed a decade after the Cold War ended that the future world would be a multipolar one. But at the same time, they also believed that as the overwhelming superpower, US hegemony would persist for at least another 50 years or even longer.
But recent years have shown that this is not the case.
Affected by economic globalisation and the pursuit of profit maximisation, and pushed particularly by “borderless information” and “hi-tech’s invisible hand”, the progress of world multipolarity has not been slow, but has accelerated in recent years.
Changes in the international balance of power have taken place faster than some American “futurists” had expected. Who would have ever imagined that China and India could develop at such surprising speed? Who would have thought that China’s (official) foreign exchange reserve could jump to be the world’s No. 1? Who would have thought that Russia would regain its great power status so rapidly?
After the quick rise of “BRIC” (Brazil, Russia, India, and China), 2007 has witnessed the emergence of “VISTA” (Viet Nam, Indonesia, South Africa, Turkey, and Argentina).

Foreign forces in Iraq are hoping that a much heralded drop in violence in Iraq will continue into the new year. However, in exclusive images obtained by Al Jazeera, it seems fighters from the Islamic Front for Resistance in Iraq (Jami) are merely biding their time and training hard with an array of new weapons in order to drive foreign forces out as soon as possible.

Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel Hamid reports.
Deep in the groves north of Baghdad, a group of fighters are shown on camera participating in an afternoon workshop on the making and use of weapons.
It includes a step-by-step lesson on how to turn an old tank shell into a roadside bomb. It took only 20 minutes to put together a device powerful enough to blow up an armoured vehicle. Two will destroy a tank, the instructors say.Countless videos of these devices' devastating effects are shown on military websites.Roadside bombs are lethal devices that cause the bulk of US soldier casualties to this day.

Iraq Does Exist
By Ghali Hassan
12/16/07 "ICH" -- -- The history of trying to obfuscate the truth and distort the image of Iraq has always been the aim of the U.S. aggression against the people of Iraq. There is the added factor now of new breed of ‘journalists’ and ‘bloggers’ ever on the lookout for a story that will tell Westerners all they need to know about Iraq, its problems, dangers, and prospects. Despite all of this, Iraq remains a nation of proud people struggling to liberate themselves from a murderous colonial Occupation.
In a recent interview ("Iraq Doesn't Exist Anymore") with the self-described ‘leftists’ blogger Mick Whitney, Nir Rosen made untruthful and unsubstantiated statements regarding the situation on the ground in Iraq and the Occupation of that country by U.S. forces and their collaborators.

It is extremely dangerous to exercise the constitutional right of free speech in a country fighting to make democracy safe in the world...
These are the gentry who are today wrapped up in the American flag, who shout their claim from the housetops that they are the only patriots, and who have their magnifying glasses in hand, scanning the country for evidence of disloyalty, eager to apply the brand of treason to the men who dare to even whisper their opposition to Junker rule in the United Sates. No wonder Sam Johnson declared that "patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel." He must have had this Wall Street gentry in mind, or at least their prototypes, for in every age it has been the tyrant, the oppressor and the exploiter who has wrapped himself in the cloak of patriotism, or religion, or both to deceive and overawe the people...
Every solitary one of these aristocratic conspirators and would-be murderers claims to be an arch-patriot; every one of them insists that the war is being waged to make the world safe for democracy. What humbug! What rot! What false pretense! These autocrats, these tyrants, these red-handed robbers and murderers, the patriots, while the men who have the courage to stand face to face with them, speak the truth, and fight for their exploited victims -- they are the disloyalists and traitors. If this be true, I want to take my place side by side with the traitors in this fight:

12/11/07 Oil or Nothing: what's the real story?

Digest commentary:

From different angles we hear the U.S. war described as a "war for oil". Many left 'interpretations' of the slippery 'no war for oil' mantra include blaming 'the war on Iraq' on one or more of these: personal Bush/Cheney connections to 'big oil' profits ...(and insanity); Bush religious fanaticism; domestic consumption; "peak oil" production level's diminishing resources; oil price volatility, etc. Sort of like before --and after --Bush the u.s. wasn't, and won't still be, the #1 scourge of the world, as if Bush isn't a vile rabble-rousing figurehead. All scrupulously miss the point. Why?

Partly because the u.s. left is run in reactionary circles by democrats and neoliberal imperialist financiers like George Soros Move-On, cleverly blaming Bush for apparently birthing u.s. global capital's "manifest destiny" agenda. The delusional, disingenuous and very dangerous message here is that the system's electoral representatives are the problem, not the political-economic system they serve, so just give it up to the complicit democrat imperialist criminals. What's the real story where does oil fit into the big picture, where do we?

The u.s. political-economic system is a dictatorship of finance capital (merchant and corporate capital no longer rule) homebased, internationally operative. Capitalist-imperialism. It is seriously sick. The underlying, driving force behind the desperate u.s. juggernaut is a foundational crisis of capital producing potentially lethal strategic weakness and vulnerability for its global dominance. Oil is central for one reason: the means, the political-economic leverage over allies as well as enemies. The only way out of its crisis for u.s. capitalism. The way to hell for most of the world caught in its juggernaut to save its ass through world war. Again.

The hidden holocaust -- our civilizational crisis, part 1: The holocaust in history
By Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed
Online Journal Contributing Writer

1. “Hidden Holocaust”. As we are all aware, the term “Holocaust” is traditionally used to refer to the “systematic, bureaucratic state-sponsored persecution and murder of approximately 6 million Jews by the Nazi regime during the Second World War. The word “Holocaust” is a Greek word, which means “sacrifice by fire.” It conveys an event, the scale and horror of which, transformed the course of world history. Moreover, it’s often seen as a crime against humanity that is unparalleled and unique. This, we cannot dispute. The Nazi Holocaust was, indeed, a uniquely horrific genocide, whose enormity and systematic character is barely imaginable, designed to exterminate wholly the Jewish people, physically, socially, culturally, from the face of the Earth. ***

But what then, do we mean by a “hidden holocaust?” This term conveys the reality of a campaign of global homicide, murder, whose scale and enormity is such that one feels that the word “holocaust” does, certainly loosely speaking, apply. It is “hidden," in the sense that, although experienced by millions of people around the world both historically and today, it remains invisible, officially unacknowledged.

This “hidden holocaust," is escalating, accelerating, intensifying; according to all expert projections from the social and physical sciences, it may culminate in the extinction of the human species, unless we take immediate drastic action, now.

2. “Civilizational Crisis”

12/4/7 "Doomsday Seed Vault" in the Arctic: Bill Gates, Rockefeller, the GMO Giants and Africa

Digest note: this amazing stand-alone story, apparently well-documented (though i haven't checked the sources) is in keeping with the U.S. past and present world-domination-or-destruction agenda for "manifest destiny":

"...depopulation should be the highest priority of U.S. foreign policy towards the Third World."

The connection to Africa also coincides, though Engdahl doesn't mention it, with AFRICOM, a critical component of the bogus war on terror for U.S. "full spectrum global dominance" based on control of world's major oil/energy resources:

The Scramble for Africa's Oil
by Christopher Thompson
The Pentagon is embarked on a massive effort to militarily secure African oil assets for the United States. Under cover of the so-called "war on terror," the U.S. is deepening its military ties to "friendly" African regimes, enhancing their capacity to deal with internal dissidents and external rivals. From the Horn of Africa to the Gulf of Guinea and the Niger Delta, the Americans bolster authoritarian regimes and flaunt U.S. air, naval and "special operations" power. Even the FBI has gotten into the act, performing interrogations of hundreds of "suspects" swept up in Ethiopia's invasion of Somalia and brutal suppression of internal foes.

12/3/7 U.S. Says Iran Ended Nuclear Arms Work Commentary: political implications

Digest commentary:

This transparent face-saving "news", an admission of what the world has long-known, must be understood for what it is: a serious set-back for U.S. hegemonic plans that reflects its growing geostrategic political-economic and military weakness. The deep capitalist crisis behind the U.S. imperialist world war for the absolute global hegemony needed to resolve the crisis -- [restructuring the globe and finance capital by securing control of oil and other essential resources] -- has resulted in further exacerbating the crisis: Iran's refusal to be bullied into submission, the undefeatable Iraqi resistance emboldening other oppressed peoples and nations, increasing U.S defeat in Afghanistan, the unspeakable state terrorist crimes committed by U.S. and its zionist proxy, with severe and growing isolation, hatred and opposition threatening its supremacy in the face of Russian and Chinese and Latin American anti-U.S. hegemony capitalist bloc-building, plus the too-silent but spreading political disgust with its wars as the financial chickens come home to roost in the 'homeland' --- all this requires new U.S. tactics.

Do not be fooled: this does not indicate defeat for the bipartisan world domination agenda, nor is it an indication of strategic electoral party differences, because the agenda is necessary to the preservation of U.S. capitalist global power and profits, the mission of all electoral representatives. The infrastructural shift from liberal-to fascist capitalist mode will become more draconian under pressure. Any international policy shifts will be only tactical, as proscribed by Zbigniew Brzezinski et al, toward more successfully achieving, instead of sabotaging, U.S. capital's "global leadership".

12/3/7 Chavez: "Narrow Defeat" by "Operation Pliers"; ."We're Misunderstood": AFRICOM & "Save Darfur"; Annapolis & U.S. A

Operation Pliers succeeds...
Venezuela Hands Narrow Defeat to Chávez Plan
... It was the first major electoral defeat in the nine years of his presidency. Voters rejected the 69 proposed amendments 51 to 49 percent....The outcome is a stunning development in a country where Mr. Chávez and his supporters control nearly all of the levers of power. Almost immediately after the results were broadcast on state television, Mr. Chávez conceded defeat... “I congratulate my adversaries for this victory,” he said. “For now, we could not do it.”
The defeat slows Mr. Chávez’s socialist-inspired transformation of the country. Venezuela, once a staunch ally of the United States, has become a leading opponent of the Bush administration’s policies in the developing world. It has also taken the most profound leftward turn of any large Latin American nation in decades... The voting seemed to unfold largely without irregularities, though there were isolated reports of fraud and violence in parts of the country. Recounts are allowed under Venezuelan law, but would have to be approved by the Supreme Court, which is controlled by Mr. Chávez’s supporters.
In recent weeks, Mr. Chávez has adopted an increasingly confrontational tone with critics abroad, who have been multiplying even in friendly countries with moderate leftist governments like Brazil and Chile. In the days before the referendum, Mr. Chávez recalled his ambassador from Colombia and threatened to nationalize the Venezuelan operations of Spanish banks after Spain’s king told him to shut up during a meeting. Mr. Chávez said he would cut off oil exports to the United States in the event of American interference in the vote.
