12/15 'Homeland' Front in US Global Peace War, part 2

‘Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple human rights? No, I’m not going 10,000 miles from home to help murder and burn another poor nation simply to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over.'”
Muhammad Ali

Digest comment:
White supremacist amerikan capitalism, its bloody empire built on genocidal terror and slavery, secured by class privilege with racist ideology, relies on this lynchpin to maintain white loyalty to its rule to exploit and dominate oppressed nations and peoples abroad as well as in the 'homeland'.
US plans are doomed: amerikan liberals buy the elegant obama handcuffs, but the more terror and destruction it spreads, the greater resistance to the GWOT and the stronger become the capitalist rivals China & Russia threatening its world hegemony. No longer able to tolerating serious opposition, anywhere, GWB's strategic threat "if you aren't with US, you're with the terrorists" is ever more the law of the land, including the 'homeland'.
Its divide to conquer great white hope in desperation targets Arabs, Blacks, Muslims as "terrorists", not only to 'justify' its genocidal crimes, but to create public opinion for extreme new fascist police state terror. Center stage in this horror show recently is an attempt to use alleged military & cop deaths as the means to unleash ferocious witchhunts by the increasingly merged armed forces of the state, military and police, whom the media relentlessly iconizes as our true friends and support against "cop killers" and other " al-qaeda / internet radicalized homegrown terrorists" lurking everywhere - fascist psyops manufactured by state terror. Without a pretense of evidence, any African american, African, Arab, immigrant, Muslim targeted can individually or collectively be spun into a deadly web of disinformation and fabricated allegations to 'justify' more state terror and repression, already criminalized and convicted by major capitalist media functioning in true fascist form as the full-blown 4th. arm of the state.

Capitalist class and race privilege has spawned narcissistic bourgeoisification that shamelessly girds liberals - including 'labor aristocrat' - complicity with world enemy #1.
So-called progressive forces that opposed Bush era terror in their millions now are silent as the Obama-fascism-with-friendler-face regime expands the bipartisan US imperialist world war serving the geostrategic agenda he was selected to execute after Bush became a globally despised impediment.

This grotesque reality, objectively putting us in the enemy's corner, proves what ruling class strategists figured out: neoliberal imperialist-zionists are their best hope. Electoral politics enables both capitalist parties to play at 'opposition' while maneuvering the state - and its subjects as long as we stay in their game - to intensify the 'national security' war agenda needed to save US capitalism's ass.

Will liberals remain the most dangerous, insidious obstacle to political resistance and genuine systemic change in this monstrous 'homeland'? Or awaken to reality, to their real common interests in unity with the international working class and oppressed peoples - and act accordingly?

"If you aren't with US, you're with the terrorists": USraeli state terrorism is our enemy. We, everywhere, are the enemy it must divide to conquer

In his Nobel Peace Prize speech, President Barack Obama declared "we’re in Afghanistan to prevent a cancer from spreading throughout that country." The phrasing signals that his war escalation will follow the dictates of what the CIA calls political and psychological warfare, the cornerstones of counterinsurgency.By viewing this "cancer" as a political and ideological threat – as much as a military one – the U.S. counterinsurgency strategies will merge violence against armed enemies with attacks on their unarmed supporters, as has happened in such conflicts around the world, from Indochina to Latin America to Africa.
Obama’s Dec. 10 speech in Oslo also marked an important juncture for him as he took on the job of selling a counterinsurgency war in Afghanistan, already stained by the blood of thousands of innocents killed in bombing raids that targeted militants mixed with non-combatants.

Obama’s speech is being hailed by prominent U.S. neoconservatives..."The shift in rhetoric at Oslo was striking," observed neocon theorist Robert Kagan in a Washington Post op-ed. "Gone was the vaguely left-revisionist language that flavored earlier speeches, highlighting the low points of American global leadership -- the coups and ill-considered wars -- and low-balling the highlights, such as the Cold War triumph." Indeed, in his speech, Obama shoved six decades of those bloody low points behind one five-word clause, "whatever mistakes we have made."

Obama seems to have shouldered the job of salesman for the war in Afghanistan. But it is not necessary for Obama to win the support of the majority of the American people for the war since many Americans simply will rally around the flag and support the troops. Obama and his national security team are also aware that public opinion can change if the war is not won quickly enough. Thus the public must be made to feel there is an on-going, urgent need for the war.So, Obama packages the war as a cure for cancer. He makes it a matter of personal survival, like chemotherapy and radiation that take a terrible toll on the patient’s body, but are necessary for the patient’s survival. The public will suffer what it is told is the cure for what ails Afghanistan, if it believes the cure will dispel fear and insecurity in America.

Beyond relying on fear and patriotism, Obama’s war council knows that public confusion is helpful. Most Americans don’t have the time to learn the truth – there is no "insurgency" or "counterinsurgency," but rather a resistance movement by Afghan nationalists – especially among the Pashtun tribe – to American military occupation...

The allegedly growing domestic Muslim threat
by Glenn Greenwald
There is clearly a concerted effort by the Government to claim loudly that a threat posed by radicalized American Muslims is increasing. Last week, The Los Angeles Times published a lengthy, scary story under the headline "U.S. sees homegrown Muslim extremism as rising threat," claiming that "Anti-terrorism officials and experts see signs of accelerated radicalization among American Muslims." Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano warned this month: "Home-based terrorism is here." When justifying his Afghanistan escalation at West Point, Obama warned of "extremists within our borders who were sent here from the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan to commit new acts of terror." And strangely, on Saturday, two articles with virtually identical storylines appeared -- one in The Washington Post and the other in The New York Times -- warning that American Muslims, for the first time, are now becoming a radicalized threat in the way European Muslims are. At least from all appearances, these claims are being made exclusively on the basis of a handful of recent episodes involving American Muslims accused of having links to Al Qaeda and/or the Taliban. There is no data whatsoever offered to corroborate the claim of a "trend." Given the obvious dangers inherent in trumpeting threats from internal sources -- as well as the motives the Government generally has in disseminating such warnings and the motive it specifically has when escalating a war -- far more than a few anecdotes ought to be required before any of this is believed.

Guantanamo Detainee Deaths
Stephen Lendman
December 14, 2009
Under the direction of Professor Mark Denbeaux, Seton Hall University School of Law's Center for Policy & Research (CP&R) published 15 "GTMO Reports," including profiles of detainees held, allegations against them, and discrepancies in government accounts explaining reasons for reported deaths.
An earlier report analyzed unclassified government data (obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests) based on evidentiary summaries of 2004 military hearings on whether 517 detainees held at the time were "enemy combatants." Most were non-belligerents....95% seized randomly by bounty hunters, then sold to US forces for $5,000 per claimed Taliban and $25,000 for supposed Al Qaeda members. At least 20 were children, some as young as 13. The latest report titled, "Death in Camp Delta," covers three simultaneous detainee deaths on June 9, 2006 in the maximum security Alpha Block. Yassar Talal Al Zahrani, Mani Shaman Turki Al Habardi Al Tabi, and Ali Abdullah Ahmed were found dead shortly after midnight on June 10... the Pentagon's said they were found hanging in their cells as part of an anti-American "asymmetrical warfare conspiracy" ... Investigators didn't clarify what happened or answer basic questions as to "who, what, where, when, why, and how Al Zahrani, Al Tabi, and Ahmed died." Al Tabi was cleared for transfer to his native Saudi Arabia and scheduled to leave Guantanamo before the end of the month." ...
In his 2007 book, "The Guantanamo Files: The Stories of the 774 Detainees in America's Illegal Prison," British historian Andy Worthington reviewed them all... the majority being non-belligerents, and the use of torture, in some cases harsh enough to kill. Chapter 14 of his book "Murders in Bagram," America's notorious Afghanistan torture-prison, now undergoing a $60 million expansion to hold 1,100 more prisoners besides the 600 or more now there. Besides the most unspeakable tortures, he detailed at least 10 known murders, naming names and explaining that their treatment, in fact, killed them ....These and others at Bargram, Guantanamo, and other US torture-prisons are unreported, called suicides or naturally occurring deaths. Strong evidence confirms...the three Guantanamo detainees..were murdered in cold blood. http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=61066&s2=15

ACLU: Obama creating ‘a sweeping immunity doctrine for torturers’
By Sahil Kapur
The ACLU slammed President Obama for shielding the Bush administration from accountability for its "dangerous torture policy," and insisted that this "lack of transparency" severely threatens the future of constitutional liberty in the United States. "The Bush administration constructed a legal framework for torture," Jameel Jaffer, Director of ACLU's National Security Project, said in a conference call with reporters. "Now the Obama administration is constructing a legal framework for impunity."...

Padilla v. Yoo: Obama administration backs Bush torture memo author
By John Burton
December 13, 2009 - Obama administration lawyers under the direction of Attorney General Eric Holder are once again supporting the dismissal of a civil case brought by a victim of illegal detention and torture during the Bush administration. On December 3, Department of Justice attorneys filed an amicus curiae "friend of the court" brief on behalf of John Yoo, the notorious draftsman of Bush’s "torture memos," in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which reviews federal court decisions in the western United States. The brief urges a reversal of District Judge Jeffrey S. White’s refusal to dismiss the case brought against Yoo by Jose Padilla, the US citizen held incommunicado and tortured for over two years after his arrest at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport...http://www.uruknet.de/?p=61053

Obama Admin. & US court rejects Britons' Guantanamo torture case
December 14, 2009 — The top US court Monday threw out a plea by four British ex-Guantanamo inmates detained between January 2002 and March 2004..."All four petitioners were held and interrogated by the United States under appalling conditions in Afghanistan before they were transported to Guantanamo, where they were systematically tortured and abused"... argued that former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld and top military commanders were to blame But the Supreme refused to review an appeals court ruling that the case could not proceed because political and military figures enjoy immunity... the President Barack Obama administration argued the case should not proceed because the 2008 ruling did not apply to events in previous years. http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=61069&s2=15

U.S., NATO War In Afghanistan: Antecedents, Precedents, Portents
Rick Rozoff, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stopnato/
...A U.S. military news agency published an article on December 3 that discussed the Quadrennial Defense Review currently being deliberated on at the Pentagon. Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III, who before assuming that post was Vice President of Government Operations and Strategy for Raytheon, was quoted as boasting that “The Quadrennial Defense Review…will be unlike any other: the first to be driven by current wartime requirements, to balance conventional and nonconventional capabilities, and to embrace a ‘whole of government’ approach to national security….This is a landmark QDR.” Lynn also said that “Secretary Gates has made clear that the conflicts we’re in should be at the very forefront of our agenda. He wants to make sure we’re not giving up capabilities needed now for those needed for some unknown future conflict. He wants to make sure the Pentagon is truly on war footing….For the first time in decades, the political and economic stars are aligned for a fundamental overhaul of the way the Pentagon does business.” [14]
The more than eight-year war in Afghanistan is not going to end in 2011, Obama’s asseverations notwithstanding, nor will it be the last of its kind. It will continue to engulf neighboring Pakistan with the threat of also spilling over into Central Asia and Iran.
The crisis confronting the world is not only the war in South Asia: It is war itself. More particularly, the recklessness of the self-proclaimed sole superpower and the military bloc it heads in arrogating to themselves the exclusive right to threaten nations around the world with military aggression. If not brought to an end by the real international community – the more than six-sevenths of humanity outside the greater Euro-Atlantic world (as it deems itself) – Afghanistan will not be this century’s last war front but its first and prototypical one. Portents are of even worse to come. http://www.inteldaily.com/news/172/ARTICLE/13088/2009-12-14.html?utm_sou...

The Story Behind, Blackwater, JSOC and the CIA's Private Army of Elite Assassins

Special Operations Chiefs Sway Afghanistan Policy
Vice Admirals William McRaven and Robert Harward (navy.mil) Two senior military officers from the shadowy world of Special Operations are playing a large and previously unreported role in shaping the Obama administration’s Afghanistan and Pakistan strategy ... Both men have deep ties to Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the commander of U.S. and NATO forces in the war.“Harward and McChrystal were running JSOC,” said the NSC staffer, “and all three of them [have been] in the nether regions forever.”...
McRaven runs a secretive detachment of Special Forces known as Task Force 714 — once commanded by McChrystal himself — that the NSC staffer described as “direct-action” units conducting “high-intensity hits.” In an email, Sholtis said that because Task Force 714 was a “special ops organization” he “can’t go into much detail on authorities, etc.” But the NSC staffer — who called McRaven “McChrystal Squared” — said Task Force 714 was organized into “small groups of Rangers going wherever the hell they want to go” in Afghanistan and operating under an executive order signed by George W. Bush in mid-2008 not revoked by Obama ...authorized special forces to cross the Afghan border into Pakistan in pursuit of top insurgent targets. “JSOC is already ramping up for that. … These are what they call kinetic, direct-action task forces,” military terminology to describe intense fighting with small units. The prospect of crossborder raids by U.S. military forces has been greeted in Pakistan as an offensive violation of Pakistani sovereignty. The two admirals are also said to be influential with Jim Jones, Obama’s national security adviser.

Special Ops Command Displacing The CIA
by Max Fisher
...JSOC. The Joint Special Operations Command is part of the U.S. military's Special Operations Command.. enjoyed a rapid expansion of authority and notoriety beginning in the latter years of the Bush administration. Under President Obama, JSOC playing an increasingly prominent role in national security, counter-terrorism and the war in Afghanistan. If Obama's first ten months in office are any indication, it may not be so obscure for long....The military at large has also felt the growing influence of JSOC. General Stanley McChrystal, now the top military commander in Afghanistan, led JSOC from 2003 to 2008. McChrystal's extensive special operations in Iraq, credited as crucial in the country's stabilization, earned both him and JSOC wide support in the military and in Washington. In his high-powered role in Afghanistan, McChrystal is increasingly turning to his old command. Spencer Ackerman reports that JSOC's current leadership is "playing a large and previously unreported role in shaping the Obama administration's Afghanistan and Pakistan strategy." ...

Drug Money Saved Banks in Global Crisis: UN Chief
Drugs and crime chief says $352bn in criminal proceeds was effectively laundered by financial institutions
By Rajeev Syal
Drugs money worth billions of dollars kept the financial system afloat at the height of the global crisis, the United Nations' drugs and crime tsar has told the Observer.
Antonio Maria Costa, head of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, said he has seen evidence that the proceeds of organised crime were "the only liquid investment capital" available to some banks on the brink of collapse last year. He said that a majority of the $352bn (£216bn) of drugs profits was absorbed into the economic system as a result....evidence indicated gang money was used to save some banks from collapse when lending seized up. "Inter-bank loans were funded by money that originated from the drugs trade and other illegal activities... There were signs that some banks were rescued that way." Costa declined to identify countries or banks that may have received any drugs money, saying that would be inappropriate because his office is supposed to address the problem, not apportion ..he said the money is now a part of the official system... effectively laundered....

Copenhagen Conference Breaks Down as Africa and Other Poor Countries Walk Out
digest: Knowing your enemy: The Kyoto treaty, which US refused to sign, is just a marker of the western imperialist fraud it is having difficulty imposing because the majority of the world's oppressed nations, dominated by U.S. & co., know the 'advanced' nations responsible for global human and environmental devastation are using 'climate change' as a pretext for their further imperialist gains.

Copenhagen: Leaders of the rich world are enacting a giant fraud
Johann Hari
... this summit is dominated by the representatives of the rich countries trying to lace the deal with Enron-style accounting tricks that will give the impression of cuts, without the reality. It's essential to understand these shenanigans this week, so we can understand the reality of the deal that will be announced with great razzmatazz next week...a rich country can "cut" its emissions without releasing fewer greenhouse gases. How?...simply pay a poor country to emit less than it otherwise would have...
A study by the University of Stanford found that most of the projects that are being funded as "cuts" either don't exist, don't work, or would have happened anyway. Yet this isn't a small side-dish to the deal: it's the main course. For example, under proposals from the US, the country with by far the highest per capita emissions in the world wouldn't need to cut its own gas by a single exhaust pipe until 2026, insisting it'll simply pay for these shadow-projects instead. It gets worse still. A highly complex system operating in the dark is a gift to corporate lobbyists, who can pressure or bribe governments into rigging the system in their favour, rather than the atmosphere's. It's worth going through some of the scams that are bleeding the system of any meaning: [...]

US settles massive lawsuit with Native Americans
The US Tuesday agreed to pay $3.4 billion to settle a long-running lawsuit brought by some 300,000 Native Americans who claimed they had been cheated out of land revenue for more than a century. The class-action lawsuit was first brought 13 years ago and has been the subject of 22 judicial decisions. Many past attempts to settle the claims have failed. The settlement still has to be approved by Congress and in court. The dispute stems from an 1887 agreement that divided up Indian tribal lands into small parcels that were individually owned and held in 'trust' by the US government. Native Americans claim the mismanagement of those trust accounts robbed them of billions of dollars in revenue that the government collected from leasing the parcels of land. Under the settlement, the government agreed to pay $1.4 billion directly to the 300,000 Native Americans tribal members. Another $2 billion was set aside for the government to buy some of the land from its owners. http://story.irishsun.com/index.php/ct/9/cid/2411cd3571b4f088/id/575056/...

Anthrax War Video Documentary
In tracing the 2001 bio-terror attacks in the U.S. to the heart of the U.S. bio-defense program, this film raises an alarm. These attacks that helped prepare a country for war have also spawned a multi-billion dollar bio-defense boom. The line between bio-offense and bio-defense is becoming extremely thin.

Roche, the manufacturer of Tamiflu, has made it impossible for scientists to assess how well the anti-flu drug stockpiled around the globe works by withholding the evidence the company has gained from trials, doctors alleged today .A major review of what data there is in the public domain has found no evidence Tamiflu can prevent healthy people with flu from suffering complications such as pneumonia... Roche has made a fortune out of the drug, with sales of £1.6bn this year alone. The British government has stockpiled enough for half the population...The reviewers were forced to leave out eight trials because they had not been published, Roche offered them "under conditions we thought unacceptable, and what was offered to us was insufficient to analyse properly." ... the reviewers say previous evidence on the effects of Tamiflu and other drugs of this class (the neuraminidase inhibitors) may be unreliable. They call on governments to set up studies to monitor the drug for safety. dangers long-known - see earlier digest issues

Menopause Brought to You by Big Pharma
... In the popular 1966 book “Feminine Forever,” Dr. Robert A. Wilson, a gynecologist, used disparaging descriptions of aging women (“flabby,” “shrunken,” “dull-minded,” “desexed”) to upend the prevailing idea of menopause as a normal stage of life. Women and their physicians, Dr. Wilson wrote, should regard menopause as a degenerative disease that could be prevented or cured with the use of hormone drugs. “No woman can be sure of escaping the horror of this living decay,” Dr. Wilson wrote. “There is no need for either valor or pretense. The need is for hormones.”Dr. Wilson’s book propelled the idea of hormone “replacement” into the popular consciousness and onto physicians’ prescription pads. The revivifying drugs promised to inhibit the ravages of time on the appearance and the psyche, Dr. Wilson wrote. As the popularity of estrogen grew, an increasing number of women developed cancer of the uterine lining, the endometrium. In 1975, an F.D.A. panel concluded there was a link between Premarin and endometrial cancer. The company then sent a letter to doctors trying to mitigate such concerns, documents show...Even as evidence mounted of an association of the drugs with cancer — first in the 1970s with Premarin and endometrial cancer, then in the 1990s with Prempro and breast cancer — Wyeth tried to contain the concerns, the court documents show. (A note handwritten in 1996 by a Wyeth employee responding to a new report of breast cancer risks associated with hormone therapy said: “Dismiss/distract.”)
In 2002, researchers halted the largest clinical trial ever conducted of women’s health because participants who took certain combined hormones had an increased risk of breast cancer — as well as a higher risk of heart attack, stroke and blood clots in the lungs — compared with those taking a placebo. Other parts of the same federal study, called the Women’s Health Initiative, later found that hormone drugs increased the risk of dementia in a subset of participants, those age 65 and older...
Pfizer is now fighting the Prempro litigation along with lawsuits over its progestin drug, Provera. Mr. Loder, the Pfizer spokesman, says Pfizer and Wyeth had fully informed patients, doctors and regulators of the risks of their menopause drugs, based on the best available science at the time of the disclosures...In 1980, researchers at Boston University Medical Center estimated that the use of hormone therapy had caused more than 15,000 cases of endometrial cancer in the United States between 1971 and 1975 alone. “This represents one of the largest epidemics of serious iatrogenic disease” — meaning disease caused by physician-administered treatments — “that has ever occurred in this country,” the authors wrote. (Mr. Loder said Pfizer was not familiar with that report.)... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/13/business/13drug.html?th&emc=th

The Washington Convention and Sports Authority, which operates the armory estimated that Remote Area Medical, or RAM, would have to pay at least $77,000 to host the three-day clinic planned for late January... Founder Stan Brock said RAM has never been asked by other site operators to pay anything approaching that fee. The cost is "prohibitively high" and still climbing, Brock said in a telephone interview this week from Knoxville, Tenn., where RAM is headquartered. "We don't know what the bottom line is going to be...things just keep coming up."...The potential price tag is not the only hang-up. The D.C. Department of Health and others in the public health sector have posed a host of questions about the event, particularly about follow-up care for people who would be treated at RAM's clinic... But Brock said the clinic staff would be prepared to direct people who need follow-up and would have help from the U.S. Public Health Service, which makes such links an important part of its mission....
Created in 1985, RAM has staged more than 500 clinics worldwide. Early on, it focused its efforts on isolated areas of poor countries such as Haiti and Nepal. In the early 1990s, it began staging clinics closer to home as well, focusing on people in the United States who lack adequate health care. For the last decade, for example, it has hosted an annual clinic in rural southwestern Virginia. RAM has taken its efforts to urban areas as well. It set up a clinic last summer at the Forum in Los Angeles. Dental and vision care can be particularly hard for the poor to find, and many of those who turn up at RAM's clinics need new eyeglasses or teeth extracted.
