1-6-10 How and Why the System Worked on 12-25-09

digest: NW FLIGHT #253: USraeli 'black op" did work perfectly

...Obama had already authorized a covert war in Yemen. Yemeni jets bombed Qaeda targets on Dec. 17 and 24, the United States supplied intelligence, missiles, and military support. American spies and special forces are on the ground, assisting the Yemenis...

...the "system has worked really very, very smoothly over the past several days"...
White House Communications Director Robert Gibbs and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano

... already irritated to learn of communications between al-Awlaki and Nidal Malik Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter, the FBI had failed to act on—messages that are sure to provoke public outrage when they become public... Obama was "extremely angry" when he learned how much information intelligence agencies had collected about Abdulmutallab before the bombing....

digest commentary:
The 12/25/09 'black op'. requiring a Nigerian 'patsy', is unimaginatively similar to 911 in 2001, As are the lies and embellishments needed for the 'near-death terrorist attack' to serve its political purpose and to cover up revealing information the state cannot suppress [which brings us to the political grounds being laid -'terrorists radicalized by the internet' - for replacement of the current internet 1 architecture by 'secure trusted internet 2' architecture (see 12-2-09 http://www.burbankdigest.com/node/252].

Silently complicit Good germans that put Germans to shame, it would seem by now all but the most severely myfaced/twittered amerikans would see through the same BS: 'homeland under attack by muslims', 'information - communication breakdown', an always dependable 'attack' by its indispensable made-in-usa-qaeda, bogus theorizing and blustering about urgent need for even tighter police state - before Patriot Acts 'dies' preparing for war against eventual domestic mass 'surges', all the MFs do is to 'protect us' as they overtly open another 'new' front in US imperialism's state terrorist war for global supremacy so it can get full-court 'news' and 'cultural' support for our brainwashing pleasure. Propaganda, otherwise known as psychological warfare, including the 'social networks', racist award- winning war and terror glorification movies, music, and more sold as 'hot entertainment' laden with celebrities, narcissist-training gurus, christian-zionist fundamentalists, military-made video games and 'humanitarian aid activism', 'diverse' arms of this liberal fascist 'cool culture'.

NB how this same system also worked perfectly in another political situation..
US authorites divert Air France flight carrying 'no-fly' journalist to Mexico
By Henry Samuel in Paris 24 Apr 2009
American authorities reportedly refused an Air France flight from Paris to Mexico entry into US airspace because a left-wing journalist writing a book on the CIA was on board.
Hernando Calvo Ospina, who works for Le Monde Diplomatique and has written on revolutionary movements in Cuba and Colombia , figured on the US authorities' "no-fly list".
Air France said the April 18 flight was forced to divert to the French Caribbean island of Martinique before continuing its journey...
A spokesman for Mr Ospina's French publisher, Le Temps des Cerises, said: "Hernando, who was heading to Nicaragua to research a report, thus found out that he is on a 'no-fly list' that bans a number of people from flying to or even over the United States."Maurice Lemoine, editor in chief of Le Monde diplomatique, said: "Hernando Calvo Ospina is a Colombian political exile in France who writes a lot denouncing the government of (President) Alvaro Uribe and the role of the United States in Latin America, and as a journalist has had occasion to interview top members of the Farc (leftist guerillas in Colombia). That seems enough for him to be considered a terrorist."
Since the Sept 11, 2001 attacks, American officials have maintained a secret "terrorist watch list" of individuals forbidden to fly into, or out of the US because they are thought to pose a security threat. Critics claim that, instead of simply targeting known extremists who pose a potential danger in the "war against terror", it has been abusively extended to peaceful critics of US policy. People with similar names to suspected militants have also been listed.

Terror Watch List Counter: A Million Plus

Overview of DOJ Watchlist Nomination Activities
March 2008
Homeland Security Presidential Directive-6 (HSPD-6) mandated the U.S. government to develop the consolidated terrorist watchlist. This directive requires law enforcement and intelligence agencies with terrorist information in their possession, custody, or control to appropriately share such information for purposes related to the consolidated watchlist of known
or suspected terrorists. A subsequent Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Attorney General, the Director of Central Intelligence, and the Secretaries of Homeland Security and State requires information on international terrorists to be shared with NCTC and purely domestic terrorism information to be shared with the FBI.2 The procedure for submitting information on individuals for inclusion on the watchlist is referred to as the “nomination process.” ...

Our audit was conducted in conjunction with other OIGs who examined similar issues at other agencies in the Intelligence Community. This interagency effort, led by the OIG for the Office of the Director for National Intelligence (ODNI), sought to examine watchlist nomination activities throughout the Intelligence Community. Among the other OIGs who
participated in this coordinated effort were the OIGs from the Departments of State, Treasury, Energy, and Homeland Security; and the Central Intelligence, Defense Intelligence, National Geospatial-Intelligence, and National Security Agencies. We reviewed the nomination process within DOJ, while these other OIGs reviewed the processes within their respective agencies. The ODNI OIG coordinated this review and compiled the results of the separate reviews.

US lies about Flight 253 "crotch bomber" patsy: summary of the evidence; Yemen attack implication
January 2, 8:53 PMLA County Nonpartisan Examiner Carl Herman
We hold these Truths to be self-evident...The US government who lied for wars in other resource-rich countries are lying about what happened on Delta Flight 253 with an alleged underwear/crotch bomber. Below is a summary of facts reported at this time, along with a 4-minute news interview from Webster Tarpley, followed by an extensive interview of Mr. Tarpley by Alex Jones.
The longer explanations of the following bullet points are in the reporting from Veterans Today editor Gordon Duff, US Intelligence Examiner Fred Burks 9-11 was an Inside Job

Before the flight to the US:
*Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab traveled to Yemen to meet with “terrorists.” However, his mother also lives in Yemen, which could also explain the visit.
*The alleged terrorists in Yemen had been in Guantanamo Prison. They were released without trial by the Bush Administration even though they were reported as among the most dangerous detainees.
*The government of Yemen reports that Islamic terrorists there have been arrested who have proven ties to Israeli intelligence.
*Abdulmutallab’s father warned US embassy officials of his son’s dangerous behavior; this is corroborated with other US intelligence of warning. father, we are told Abdulmutallab’s father is a retired "Nigerian banker," he ran their defense industry in close cooperation with Israeli Intelligence (Mossad).
*Abdulmutallab’s visa to the US was never withdrawn, though he was on a "terrorist watchlist." This would make his trip impossible unless protocol was ignored.
*Flying from Nigeria, Abdulmutallab entered the Netherlands without passing through customs; impossible to do without assistance from an intelligence agency.
*At the Amsterdam airport, Abdulmutallab was assisted by a man appearing to be Indian, who claimed Abdulmutallab was a Sudanese refugee with no passport (he would not have been allowed to enter the EU without a passport through customs). This man and whoever authorized boarding without a passport are huge stories we haven’t heard. Where the airport videos of this?
*Airport security in Amsterdam is contracted to an Israeli company with the most sophisticated technologies who had developed the concept of security profiling.

During the flight to the US:
*Witnesses reported a man standing ten rows behind Abdulmutallab stand and use his camcorder to film the incident before it began. This important testimony was not pursued to discover the identity and role of this seemingly complicit person.
*Witnesses report Abdulmutallab was oddly vacant and calm; typical of a programmed “Manchurian Candidate.” This might explain the behavior of the person filming: a “handler” who gave the code for Abdulmutallab to perform an act. Manchurian Candidates are now acknowledged historical fact. Research this if you are unfamiliar with the disclosed history.

After the flight:
*Witness on flight 253, attorney Kurt Haskell, reports there was another suspect handcuffed at the airport after landing, that the FBI repeatedly lies and changes their story in explaining. Haskell says the detained passengers were told this man was identified by a bomb-sniffing dog as having explosives in his luggage.
*The Detroit News confirms the FBI has changed their story four times.
*A photo of Abdulmutallab with an alleged al Qaeda flag is from the same organization that previously photo-shopped false background images.
*50 grams of PETN positioned on a seat and cushioned underneath a passenger are tested and would not cause significant damage to the plane.

US General Urges Strip Search of Muslim Men
Press TV
A retired US AF general and member of Iran Policy Committee (IPC) Thomas McInerney, told Fox News television Saturday "there is a danger of high probability" awaiting US airliners...that all 18 to 28 years old Muslim men should be strip searched at airports as "one of these bombers" will explode an airliner within the next 30 to 120 days, in the coming days... [he]went on to say US officials should profile all Muslims. "We have to use profiling. And I mean be very serious and harsh about the profiling."...
Lawmakers and congressional leaders in the US have echoed similar sentiments by urging President Obama abandon or suspend his plan to shutter the Guantanamo Bay Prison.Around half of the remaining Gitmo detainees are from Yemen, and of those, about 40 have been cleared for release.http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article24312.htm

U.S. Widens Terror War to Yemen
Yemen is focus of new US front against al-Qaeda
The United States has quietly opened a third, largely covert front against the Al-Qaeda terror network in Yemen, according to The New York Times newspaper. A year ago, the Central Intelligence Agency sent a number of its top field operatives with counter-terrorism experience to the country, the newspaper said. At the same time, some of the most secretive special operations commandos begun training Yemeni security forces in counter-terrorism tactics, the report said. The Pentagon is to spend more than $70 million over the next 18 months, and use teams of Special Forces to train and equip Yemeni military, Interior Ministry and coast guard forces.
Yemen became the focus of US attention after Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a known Nigerian extremist who tried to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day, confessed to training with an Al-Qaeda bombmaker in Yemen, security officials told US media.
“Yemen now becomes one of the centers of that fight,” said Senator Joseph Lieberman, the chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, who visited the country in August. “We have a growing presence there, and we have to, of Special Operations, Green Berets, intelligence,” he said on Fox News Sunday.

Obama Indicates Escalating US Military Involvement in Yemen
Maya Schenwar
This morning, President Barack Obama for the first time attributed the attempted Christmas Day bombing of a Detroit-bound plane to al Qaeda. In his weekly radio address, Obama painted the bombing attempt as an act of war...According to Obama, the Christmas bombing suspect is specifically linked with a Yemen-based affiliate of al Qaeda. "We know that he traveled to Yemen, a country grappling with crushing poverty and deadly insurgencies," Obama said in this morning's address. "It appears that he joined an affiliate of al Qaeda...
(ed: emphasis/italics added)...US military actions in the weeks before the failed Christmas bombing show a mounting engagement in Yemen. On December 17, the US launched missiles against two suspected al Qaeda sites in that country, according to ABC News. Yemeni officials estimated that the strikes killed up to 120 people, many of whom were civilians...[digest: emphases added]
Since this most recent bombing attempt, according to Obama, the US has stepped up its "partnership" with Yemen, "training and equipping their security forces, sharing intelligence and working with them to strike al Qaeda terrorists." Obama's statements indicate US military involvement in Yemen is on the rise --- raising questions about the development of another major front in the "war on terror." The president described a series of recent US-supported military actions in Yemen, undertaken in response to the Christmas Day bombing attempt. "Training camps have been struck; leaders eliminated; plots disrupted," Obama said.... http://www.uruknet.de/?s1=1&p=61748&s2=03

Flight 253 passenger Kurt Haskell: 'I was visited by the FBI'
December 31, 2009
Haskell and his wife, Lori, were aboard Flight 253 when Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab allegedly tried to destroy the plane. They say another man tried to help Abdulmutallab board the plane in Amsterdam. "Today is the second worst day of my life after 12-25-09. Today is the day that I realized that my own country is lying to me and all of my fellow Americans. Let me explain. Ever since I got off of Flight 253 I have been repeating what I saw in US Customs....Who has the agenda here and who doesn't? Think about that for a minute.”

White House Adviser Briefed in October on Underwear Bomb Technique
By Michael Isikoff and Mark Hosenball
White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan was briefed in October on an assassination attempt by Al Qaeda that investigators now believe used the same underwear bombing technique as the Nigerian suspect who tried to blow up Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas Day, U.S. intelligence and administration officials tell NEWSWEEK. The briefing to Brennan was delivered at the White House by Muhammad bin Nayef, Saudi Arabia’s chief counterterrorism official... to alert U.S. officials to the use of the underwear technique...
At the briefing for Brennan, Nayef was concerned because “he didn’t think [U.S. officials] were paying enough attention” to the growing threat from Al Qaeda in Yemen, said a former U.S. intelligence official familiar with the briefing....
The briefing for Brennan could raise questions on Capitol Hill about how widely information was shared within the government about the apparently new technique used by Al Qaeda...The briefing for Brennan is among a series of pre-Christmas warnings suggesting the breakdown in the U.S. intelligence system prior to the Northwest attack may have been worse than has been publicly acknowledged, according to an article in the new issue of NEWSWEEK, “The Radicalization of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.” [ http://www.newsweek.com/id/229047]...months before the Christmas attack, the article reports, there were many warning signs coming out of Yemen. In early October, Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical cleric based in Yemen, posted a provocative message on his English-language Web site: “Could Yemen be the next surprise of the season?” Al-Awlaki hinted at an upcoming attack that would make Yemen “the single most important front of jihad in the world.” Al-Awlaki, who had had contacts with two of the 9/11 hijackers, is the same imam who had been exchanging e-mails with the U.S. Army psychiatrist who later killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas. He is a now central figure in the Detroit investigation: prior to the Christmas incident, the National Security Agency had intercepted communications between a phone used by al-Awlaki and Abdulmutallab, a senior U.S. counterterrorism official tells NEWSWEEK. The official says that al-Awlaki may also have been involved in other intercepted communications indicating that Al Qaeda was planning to use an unidentified “Nigerian” in an attack over the holiday season. As NEWSWEEK reported on Friday, U.S. intelligence officials at a White House Situation Room briefing on Dec. 22 presented President Obama with a document on pre-holiday terror threats called “Key Homeland Threats.” But a senior administration official said there was no mention of Yemen in the written briefing document...

US warns of global Yemen threat
The US secretary of state warned Yemen poses a global threat and offered US support in the Yemeni government's fight against al-Qaeda. Hillary Clinton's comments came ahead of news on Tuesday that the US had reopened its embassy in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, closed days earlier in response to what it said were al-Qaeda threats. "Obviously, we see global implications from the war in Yemen and the ongoing efforts by al-Qaeda in Yemen to use it as a base for terrorist attacks far beyond the region," she said....
Clinton's comments have sparked debate over the nature of US intervention in Yemen.Earlier Abu Baker al-Qirbi, Yemen's foreign minister, made clear that while Yemen was happy to received "development assistance", any military intervention by the US "will counter-fire".
"Yemen is going to deal with terrorism in its own way, out of its own interests and therefore I don't think it will counter-fire," he told Al Jazeera, ahead of Clinton's comments to the media.
Analysts have also warned against direct US intervention in Yemen. Mark Perry, a Washington-based independent military and foreign policy analyst, said Clinton needed to approach the situation more diplomatically. "The escalation in the rhetoric seems to have happened overnight ... they have to do something and do something now because a single aeroplane on American tarmac with an unsuccessful bomber has made Yemen an international threat."
He said while Yemen has become "increasingly destabilised", al-Qaeda, whose affiliate in Yemen al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, combines both Yemen and Saudi fighters, was far from the major reason for the instability. "The Houthi rebellion in the north is the key issue here and it can only be solved diplomatically. We're not going to go into Yemen with the 10th Mountain division or the 82nd Airborne and help the Yemenis in their own country. We're only going to destabilise if we do that," he said. told Al Jazeera...
Riad Kahwaji, the founder of the Institute for Near East and Gulf Military Analysis in Dubai, said any engagement in Yemen needed to be seen as a long-term strategy. "Al-Qaeda in Yemen are Yemenis, they're not foreign fighters...They have sympathy and support..."You need to turn the environment against them, you need to make the environment against their beliefs and ideology, otherwise military strikes will have very limited results."

The Yemen Hidden Agenda: Behind the Al-Qaeda Scenarios, A Strategic Oil Transit Chokepoint
courtesy of F. William Engdahl
On December 25 US authorities arrested a Nigerian named Abdulmutallab aboard a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit on charges of having tried to blow up the plane with smuggled explosives. Since then reports have been broadcast from CNN, the New York Times and other sources that he was "suspected" of having been trained in Yemen for his terror mission. What the world has been subjected to since is the emergence of a new target for the US ‘War on Terror,’ namely a desolate state on the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen. A closer look at the background suggests the Pentagon and US intelligence have a hidden agenda in Yemen.

For some months the world has seen a steady escalation of US military involvement in Yemen, a dismally poor land adjacent to Saudi Arabia on its north, the Red Sea on its west, the Gulf of Aden on its south, opening to the Arabian Sea, overlooking another desolate land that has been in the headlines of late, Somalia. The evidence suggests that the Pentagon and US intelligence are moving to militarize a strategic chokepoint for the world’s oil flows, Bab el-Mandab, and using the Somalia piracy incident, together with claims of a new Al Qaeda threat arising from Yemen, to militarize one of the world’s most important oil transport routes. In addition, undeveloped petroleum reserves in the territory between Yemen and Saudi Arabia are reportedly among the world’s largest.

The 23-year-old Nigerian man charged with the failed bomb attempt, Abdulmutallab, reportedly has been talking, claiming he was sent on his mission by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), based in Yemen. This has conveniently turned the world’s attention on Yemen as a new center of the alleged Al Qaeda terror organization.

The picture that emerges is one of a desperate US-backed dictator, Yemen’s President Saleh, increasingly losing control after two decades as despotic ruler of the unified Yemen. Economic conditions in the country took a drastic downward slide in 2008 when world oil prices collapsed. Some 70% of the state revenues derive from Yemen’s oil sales. The central government of Saleh sits in former North Yemen in Sana’a, while the oil is in former South Yemen. Yet Saleh controls the oil revenue flows. Lack of oil revenue has made Saleh’s usual option of buying off opposition groups all but impossible.

Into this chaotic domestic picture comes the January 2009 announcement, prominently featured in select Internet websites, that Al Qaeda, the alleged global terrorist organization created by the late CIA-trained Saudi, Osama bin Laden, has opened a major new branch in Yemen for both Yemen and Saudi operations... al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula... Days later an online video from al-Wahayshi appeared under the alarming title, "We Start from Here and We Will Meet at al-Aqsa." Al-Aqsa refers to the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem that Jews know as Temple Mount, the site of the destroyed Temple of Solomon, which Muslims call Al Haram Al Sharif. The video threatens Muslim leaders -- including Yemeni’s President Saleh, the Saudi royal family, and Egyptian President Mubarak -- and promises to take the jihad from Yemen to Israel to "liberate" Muslim holy sites and Gaza, something that would likely detonate World War III if anyone were mad enough to do it...The curious emergence of a tiny but well-publicized al Qaeda in southern Yemen amid what observers call a broad-based popular-based Southern Movement front that eschews the radical global agenda of al Qaeda, serves to give the Pentagon a kind of casus belli to escalate US military operations in the strategic region.

Indeed, after declaring that the Yemen internal strife was Yemen’s own affair, President Obama ordered air strikes in Yemen. The Pentagon claimed its attacks on December 17 and 24 killed three key al Qaeda leaders but no evidence has yet proven this. Now the Christmas Day Detroit bomber drama gives new life to Washington’s "War on Terror" campaign in Yemen. Obama has now offered military assistance to the Saleh Yemen government.

As if on cue, at the same time CNN headlines broadcast new terror threats from Yemen, the long-running Somalia pirate attacks on commercial shipping in the same Gulf of Aden and Arabian Sea across from southern Yemen escalated dramatically after having been reduced by multinational ship patrols. On December 29, Moscow’s RAI Novosti reported that Somali pirates seized a Greek cargo vessel in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia's coast. Earlier the same day a British-flagged chemical tanker and its 26 crew were also seized in the Gulf of Aden. In a sign of sophisticated skills in using western media, pirate commander Mohamed Shakir told the British newspaper The Times by phone, "We have hijacked a ship with [a] British flag in the Gulf of Aden late yesterday." The US intelligence brief, Stratfor, reports that The Times, owned by neo-conservative financial backer, Rupert Murdoch, is sometimes used by Israeli intelligence to plant useful stories. The two latest events brought a record number of attacks and hijackings for 2009. As of December 22, attacks by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden and the east coast of Somalia numbered 174, with 35 vessels hijacked and 587 crew taken hostage so far in 2009, almost all successful pirate activity, according to the International Maritime Bureau's Piracy Reporting Center. The open question is, who is providing the Somali "pirates" with arms and logistics sufficient to elude international patrols from numerous nations?

Notably, on January 3, President Saleh got a phone call from Somali president Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed in which he briefed president Saleh on latest developments in Somalia. Sheikh Sharif, whose own base in Mogadishu is so weak he is sometimes referred to as President of Mogadishu Airport, told Saleh he would share information with Saleh about any terror activities that might be launched from Somali territories targeting stability and security of Yemen and the region.

The Oil chokepoint and other oily affairs
The strategic significance of the region between Yemen and Somalia becomes the point of geopolitical interest. It is the site of Bab el-Mandab, one of what the US Government lists as seven strategic world oil shipping chokepoints. The US Government Energy Information Agency states that "closure of the Bab el-Mandab could keep tankers from the Persian Gulf from reaching the Suez Canal/Sumed pipeline complex, diverting them around the southern tip of Africa. The Strait of Bab el-Mandab is a chokepoint between the horn of Africa and the Middle East, and a strategic link between the Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean." [9] Bab el-Mandab, between Yemen, Djibouti, and Eritrea connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. Oil and other exports from the Persian Gulf must pass through Bab el-Mandab before entering the Suez Canal. In 2006, the Energy Department in Washington reported that an estimated 3.3 million barrels a day of oil flowed through this narrow waterway to Europe, the United States, and Asia. Most oil, or some 2.1 million barrels a day, goes north through the Bab el-Mandab to the Suez/Sumed complex into the Mediterranean.
An excuse for a US or NATO militarization of the waters around Bab el-Mandab would give Washington another major link in its pursuit of control of the seven most critical oil chokepoints around the world, a major part of any future US strategy aimed at denying oil flows to China, the EU or any region or country that opposes US policy. Given that significant flows of Saudi oil pass through Bab el-Mandab, a US military control there would serve to deter the Saudi Kingdom from becoming serious about transacting future oil sales with China or others no longer in dollars, as was recently reported by UK Independent journalist Robert Fisk.
It would also be in a position to threaten China’s oil transport from Port Sudan on the Red Sea just north of Bab el-Mandab, a major lifeline in China’s national energy needs.
In addition to its geopolitical position as a major global oil transit chokepoint, Yemen is reported to hold some of the world’s greatest untapped oil reserves. Yemen’s Masila Basin and Shabwa Basin are reported by international oil companies to contain "world class discoveries."[10] France’s Total and several smaller international oil companies are engaged in developing Yemen’s oil production. Some fifteen years ago I was told in a private meeting with a well-informed Washington insider that Yemen contained "enough undeveloped oil to fill the oil demand of the entire world for the next fifty years." Perhaps there is more to Washington’s recent Yemen concern than a rag-tag al Qaeda whose very existence as a global terror organization has been doubted by seasoned Islamic experts.

2010: U.S. To Wage War Throughout The World
JANUARY 4, 2010
By Rick Rozoff
January 1 ushered in the last year of the first decade of a new millennium and ten consecutive years of the United States war in the Greater Middle East. Beginning with the October 7, 2001 missile and bomb attacks on Afghanistan, American combat operations abroad have not ceased for a year, a month, a week or a day in the 21st century. The Afghan war, the U.S.’s first protracted air and ground conflict in Asia since the disastrous wars in Vietnam and Cambodia in the 1960s and early 1970s and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s first land war and Asian campaign, began during the end of the 2001 war in Macedonia launched from NATO-occupied Kosovo, one in which the role of U.S. military personnel is still to be exposed [1] and addressed and which led to the displacement of almost 10 percent of the nation’s population.
In the first case Washington invaded a nation in the name of combating terrorism; in the second it abetted cross-border terrorism. Similarly, in 1991 the U.S. and its Western allies attacked Iraqi forces in Kuwait and launched devastating and deadly cruise missile attacks and bombing sorties inside Iraq in the name of preserving the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kuwait, and in 1999 waged a 78-day bombing assault against Yugoslavia to override and fatally undermine the principles of territorial integrity and national sovereignty in the name of the casus belli of the day, so-called humanitarian intervention....as abhorrent an oxymoron as the world has ever witnessed ...two years later gave way to the 'global war on terror' with the U.S. and its NATO allies continuing to wage wars of aggression and “wars of opportunity” as they saw fit, contradictions and logic, precedents and international law notwithstanding...

Several never fully acknowledged counterinsurgency campaigns, some ongoing – Colombia – and some new – Yemen – later, the U.S. invaded Iraq in March of 2003 with a “coalition of the willing” comprised mainly of Eastern European NATO candidate nations (now almost all full members of the world’s only military bloc as a result of their service).

The Pentagon has also deployed special forces and other troops to the Philippines and launched naval, helicopter and missile attacks inside Somalia as well as assisting the Ethiopian invasion of that nation in 2006. Washington also arms, trains and supports the armed forces of Djibouti in their border war with Eritrea. In fact Djibouti hosts the U.S.’s only permanent military installation in Africa to date [2], Camp Lemonier, a United States Naval Expeditionary Base and home to the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), placed under the new U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) when it was launched on October 1, 2008. The area of responsibility of the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa takes in the nations of Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Yemen and as “areas of interest” the Comoros, Mauritius and Madagascar. That is, much of the western shores of the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, among the most geostrategically important parts of the world. [3] U.S. troops, aerial drones, warships, planes and helicopters are active throughout that vast tract of land and water.

With senator and once almost vice president Joseph Lieberman’s threat on December 27 that “Yemen will be tomorrow’s war” [4] and former Southern Command chief and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Wesley Clark’s two days later that “Maybe we need to put some boots on the ground there,” [5] it is evident that America’s new war for the new year was identified... The pretext for a war in Yemen in earnest is currently the serio-comic “attempted terrorist attack” by a young Nigerian national on a passenger airliner outside of Detroit on Christmas Day...
Asia, Africa and the Middle East are not the only battlegrounds...October 30 2009 the U.S. signed an agreement with the government of Colombia to acquire the essentially unlimited and unrestricted use of seven new military bases in the South American nation, including sites within immediate striking distance of both Venezuela and Ecuador. [9] American intelligence, special forces and other personnel will be complicit in ongoing counterinsurgency operations against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) in the nation’s south as well as in rendering assistance to Washington’s Colombian proxy for attacks inside Ecuador and Venezuela portrayed as aimed at FARC forces in the two states...

With the exception of Guam and Vicenza in Italy, where the Pentagon is massively expanding existing installations, all the facilities in question are in nations and even regions of the world where the U.S. military has never before ensconced itself. Practically all the new encampments will be forward bases used for operations “down range,” generally to the east and south of NATO-dominated Europe.
U.S. military personnel will be assigned to the new Global Strike Command and for expanded patrols and war games in the Arctic Circle. They will serve under the Missile Defense Agency to consolidate a worldwide interceptor missile network that will facilitate a nuclear first strike capability and will extend that system into space, the final frontier in the drive to achieve military full spectrum dominance.[...]
