Taliban assassinates brother of Afghan President Karzai
Taliban say assassination is one of their biggest achievements in decade-long war

Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s Brother Ahmed Wali Karzai Killed In Kandahar
Ahmad Wali Karzai was many things - warlord, drugs baron... But at least he was one of ours.
He had long been Kandahar’s power broker and crucial pillar in the web of alliances his half-brother, President Hamid Karzai, relied upon to project influence. As a result, it is impossible to overstate his importance in the south of Afghanistan and his central role in NATO efforts to see off the Taliban in their spiritual home. His death removed an ally in a key region...

Taliban claim Karzai assassination
Taliban claimed responsibility for the assassination of President Hamid Karzai's younger brother today, "This is one of our biggest achievements since the spring operation began. We assigned Sardar Mohammad to kill him recently and Sardar Mohammad is also martyred," Taliban spokesman Usuf Ahmadi told AFP by telephone

Taliban claim assassination of President Karzai's brother
Ahmed Wali, head of the provincial council in Kandahar, widely recognized as the government's most powerful man in the key southern province, birthplace of the Taliban...he was a lightning rod for criticism due to his role in the drug trade, domination of local security companies...also on CIA's payroll. In a statement released on their website, Voice of Jihad, Taliban claimed responsibility for the murder of Ahmed Wali..."The killing of Ahmad Wali Karzai is considered as one of the most successful attacks carried out by Mujahideen since the beginning of Operation Badr,", the Taliban's spring counteroffensive designed to counteract NATO's surge in the Afghan south. One of the goals has been the assassination of key Afghan political and military leaders. While the assassination of Ahmed Wali could not be confirmed as a Taliban operation, the terror group has successfully executed other high-profile assassinations in the recent past. Since the spring of 2010, the list of those killed in the Taliban's assassination campaign in Kandahar includes the provincial chief of police, the deputy governor of Kandahar, the district chief for Arghandab, and the deputy mayor of Kandahar City.

4/27/08 Taliban attempt to assassinate Karzai according to official and statement from President Kharzai's office

Ahmad Wali Karzai Pofile
By Damien McElroy, Foreign Affairs Correspondent
Ahmed Wali Karzai was described many ways: opium dealer, CIA agent, tribal leader, the real power behind his maligned brother, President Hamid Karzai. ...There was strong evidence that Mr Karzai was all of these. Ahmad Wali Karzai's most important role was to keep Afghanistan's second city, Kandahar under control....[he] was formally the chief of the Kandahar provincial council. In reality his control over NATO Kandahar Strike Force, a paramilitary outfit, gave him more firepower than any other figure...Karzai relied on his connections to provide crucial support in his bid for re-election. Electoral abuses were rampant....While exiled in America, he ran a restaurant...

NYT: Karzai Brother On C.I.A. Payroll
WASHINGTON — Ahmed Wali Karzai, the brother of the president of Afghanistan, gets regular payments from the CIA and has for eight years, The NYT reported Tuesday....according to current and former American officials, the CIA pays Karzai for a variety of services, including helping to recruit an Afghan paramilitary force that operates at the CIA's direction in and around Kandahar....Karzai helps the CIA operate a paramilitary group, the Kandahar Strike Force, used for raids against suspected insurgents and terrorists, according to several American officials. Karzai also is paid for allowing the CIA and American Special Operations troops to rent a large compound outside the city, which also is the base of the Kandahar Strike Force. The CIA's practices suggest the United States is not doing everything in its power to stamp out the lucrative Afghan drug trade...Some US officials argue reliance on Ahmed Wali Karzai, central figure in [Khandahar] the south where the Taliban is dominant, undermines U.S. development of an effective central government to maintain law and order and eventually allow the US to withdraw. "If we are to conduct a population-centric strategy in Afghanistan, and are perceived as backing thugs, we are just undermining ourselves," Maj. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, senior American military intelligence official in Afghanistan, was quoted in by NYT Times on its Web site....

Drug-Linked Karzai Brother Helps U.S. Intelligence
10/15/09 Jeff Stein, SpyTalk columnist, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-stein/drug-linked-karzai-brothe_b_322...
...Kandahar citizens have repeatedly blamed Wali Karzai as the center of corruption in the region, where the Taliban are resurgent. President Karzai could make life difficult for the U.S. in Afghanistan if his brother were forced from power or arrested, Rogers said. The congressman ticked off a number of responses the Afghan leader could take: postponement of a status-of-forces agreement the U.S. has been pursuing; releasing people from prison; demanding NATO withdrawals from particular areas; even threats to make regional power-sharing deals with the Taliban.

Panetta says U.S. is 'within reach' of defeating Al Qaeda
By David S. Cloud, http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-panetta-qaeda-201107...
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says intelligence uncovered in the Bin Laden raid showed U.S. operations have left the terrorist network with only 10 to 20 remaining key operatives...mostly in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and North Africa...Gen. David H. Petraeus, stepping down as the top commander in Afghanistan this month to take over Panetta's old job at the CIA, echoed Panetta's comments while speaking to reporters later in Kabul, the Afghan capital. The Al Qaeda offshoot in Yemen "is the one to keep an eye on now," he warned. But he said, "There has been enormous damage done to Al Qaeda in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas … and it does hold the prospect of really a strategic defeat" of Al Qaeda...

Statement of the Islamic Emirate Regarding the Baseless Rumors of Negotiation
...Americans are bent on continuing the strategy of coercion and arrogance... not to end the occupation, the fundamental solution of the issue. On the one side, they speak of negotiation but on the other side, they have launched efforts to establish permanent bases in Afghanistan. Certainly, our country is considered occupied even if one foreign soldier remain on our soil...Despite these realities and the clarity of the stance of the Islamic Emirate, if the issue of negotiation is still kept hot in the media, then, we think, the media is committing a grave mistake... the assertions by American rulers being released to and published in the media are a stigma on the face of media outlets that ground their own ax. It has no other meaning. We hope neutral media will not publish those rumors and propaganda disseminated by intelligence networks and directly prepared by the CIA for publication by some affiliated American media and then sent to world’s media.

Glenn Greenwald http://www.salon.com/news/terrorism/?story=/opinion/greenwald/2011/07/09...
In just the past two months (all subsequent to killing Osama bin Laden), the U.S. Government has taken the following steps in the name of battling the Terrorist menace: extended the Patriot Act by four years without a single reform; begun a new CIA drone attack campaign in Yemen; launched drone attacks in Somalia; slaughtered more civilians in Pakistan; attempted to assassinate U.S. citizen Anwar Awlaki far from any battlefield without a whiff of due process; invoked secrecy doctrines to conceal legal memos setting forth its views of its own domestic warrantless surveillance powers; announced a "withdrawal" plan for Afghanistan that entails double the number of troops in that country there when Obama was inaugurated; and invoked a very expansive view of its detention powers under the 2001 AUMF by detaining an alleged member of al-Shabab on a floating prison, without charges, Miranda warnings, or access to a lawyer...independent of a slew of drastically expanded surveillance powers seized over the past two years in the name of the same threat...Terrorist villains are the pretext for, not the cause of those and will continue irrespective of the scope or magnitude of Terrorism... and civil liberties abuses justified in its name must not only continue but be escalated...Just like the FBI continues to manufacture its own Terrorist plots that it then flamboyantly boasts of thwarting, the U.S. continues to generate the threat that justifies its National Security and Surveillance State.

Iraqi Kurds, who have long relied on American forces to protect them, are lobbying for U.S. troops to stay but Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki refuses to publicly endorse a troops' extension...
One of the main sticking points is how to ensure that U.S. troops all have legal immunity from Iraqi courts if they remain. Al-Shilah called it "very difficult, if not impossible due to the complicated political situation.".. Iraq is still seething from the 2007 shooting by corporation then called Blackwater Worldwide security guards which left 17 people dead but could not be prosecuted by Iraq courts because of an immunity deal at the time. Al-Maliki also would not want remaining U.S. troops to look like combat forces, and potentially would strip them of huge armored trucks or have them live on Iraqi bases. The U.S. will not agree to that...

Panetta Says Iranian Arms in Iraq Are a ‘Tremendous Concern’
Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta is the third top American official to warn about Iranian influence in Iraq in recent days...Iran’s motive, American officials say, is to claim credit for driving American forces out of Iraq
think anyone but amerikans actually believe US occupiers and their paid pimps aren't the targets of the righteous Iraqi national resistance or that 'Iraqis' want the mass-murdering destroyers of their nation and its future to stay?
Between blaming Iran and their favorite al qaeda bogeyman, the US barbarians can't keep its stories - or its deadly global juggernaut on track
Panetta's first morning in the capital, five rockets struck the Green Zone, the enclosed, fortified home of the U.S. Embassy and major American military installations, few hours before meeting with Prime Minister Maliki.... the Green Zone has been the target of rocket attacks for the past three days... his his inaugural visit to Iraq as Pentagon chief...speaking to about 100 soldiers at Camp Victory, the largest U.S. military installation in Baghdad, Panetta said his primary goal as defense secretary was to defeat al-Qaeda worldwide. “The reason you guys are here is because on 9/11 the United States got attacked,” Panetta told the troops. “And 3,000 Americans — 3,000 not just Americans, 3,000 human beings, innocent human beings — got killed because of al-Qaeda. And we’ve been fighting as a result of that.”... there is no evidence al-Qaeda had a presence in Iraq before the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. Panetta, CIA director, at his Senate confirmation hearing for defense secretary last month, said about 1,000 al-Qaeda fighters remain in Iraq...Saturday, after meeting in Kabul with President Karzai, the Pentagon chief told reporters — twice — that 70,000 U.S. troops would remain in Afghanistan through the end of 2014...
Last week, two U.S. troops were killed just outside the Green Zone near an entrance to Camp Victory...that bombing was one in a spate of violent attacks officials warn probably will continue as the U.S. continues to withdraw troops from Iraq. Iraqi political leaders are considering seeking an extension of the U.S. troop presence. Iran has been aggressively lobbying the Iraqi government to make sure U.S. troops leave as scheduled...Already Iraq’s largest trading partner, selling everything from Iranian cola to entire power plants, Iranian officials also say they would provide training and weapons to Iraq’s military once the U.S. military is gone....Iran denies U.S. allegations it supports terrorist acts in Iraq, and says that Iraqi resistance against U.S. occupation troops is homegrown.

Maliki is in his second elected term... Last year the US negotiated a power-sharing deal under which Maliki remained prime minister...

The United States and France, with other Western nations, have expressed support for Syria’s pro-democracy protesters and condemned the government’s crackdown...Pro-government crowds attacked the U.S. and French embassies in Damascus Monday, in the latest escalation of Syrian government anger over foreign support for the country’s pro-democracy protesters.... Darfurism, Uganda and the U.S. War in Africa: The Spectre of Continental Genocide
by Keith Harmon Snow
Niger is the poorest country in the world. Yet another genocide?
Exxon, Elf and Hunt Oil are in Niger, Barrick Gold is also in Niger, and in Guniea, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Madagascar and Mali; through their partnership with Anglo-Ashanti, Barrick is responsible for atrocities and plunder in eastern Congo. Directors of the Bush-connected Barrick Gold include former U.S. Senator Howard Baker, whose wife, Nancy Kassebaum Baker, has been an outspoken advocate for immediate action on Darfur. "I was in the Senate at the time of Rwanda," said Kassebaum-Baker in a speech in 2006 where Darfur was discussed at the Foreign Relations Committee's Subcommittee on African Affairs...
The Bakers are on the advisory board for the think-tank Partnership for a Secure America-- a major policy-formulating-perception-management-force behind the "Save Darfur" movement--along with a stellar cast of corporate executives involved in war and plunder in Africa.[67] Most notable: Frank G. Wisner, Richard Holbrooke, Anthony Lake, Thomas Pickering, Carla Hills and Sam Nunn. Wisner was also on the National Security Council under Clinton, along with the International Crisis Group (ICG) Special Advisor and ENOUGH co-chair John Prendergast. Wisner's co-directors of the American International Group include: Marshall Cohen, a director of the Bush-connected Barrick Gold Corporation; Clinton Cabinet members William Cohen and Richard Holbrooke; and Carla Hills, NAFTA negotiator and director of Chevron-Texaco and the ICG. Partnership for a Secure America advisory board members Zbigniew Brzezinski, Pickering, Hills, and Kassebaum-Baker are all on the Board of Trustees for the ICG--International Crisis Group--pushing the "Save Darfur" and Lord's Resistance Army (Uganda) narratives.
George Soros founded the International Crisis Group in 1995 and serves on the ICG executive committee, another who's who of establishment people entrenched in the production of militant establishment narratives and structural violence. The Crisis Group think-tank is funded by Soros' philanthropy think-tank the Open Society Institute, and it pushes the rhetoric of "peace" and "democracy" through hegemonic policy instruments advocating direct "humanitarian" [read: military] intervention. The Crisis Group executives have numerous interlocking ties with the International Rescue Committee, a Kissinger-connected flak organization. Other Crisis Group executives include Zbigniew Brzezinski, Wesley K. Clark (who led the NATO deconstructive bombing of Yugoslavia), and Joanne Leedom-Ackerman--a director of Human Rights Watch.
George Soros is also an emeritus director of Refugees International, another "humanitarian" NGO behind the massive suffering in Africa. Other Refugees International directors emeritus include Judy Mayotte, an executive boardmember of the International Rescue Committee Frank G. Wisner, and Richard Holbrooke. The current president of Refugees International is Kenneth H. Bacon, who, prior to his appointment in 2001, had worked for seven years as assistant secretary for public affairs at the U.S Department of Defense. Beyond the global presence of RI in hot spots like Afghanistan and Iraq are their permanent missions in Somalia, Central Africa Republic, Rwanda, Uganda, Dem. Rep. of Congo, Ethiopia, Somalia, Chad, South Sudan and Darfur. Refugees International profited from the RPF/A forced exodus of refugees from Rwanda in 1994, and their involvement in the international war crimes behind the destruction of the Hutu refugee camps in Eastern Zaire, shelled by the RPF/A in 1996 as the U.S. opened its war there, or the subsequent genocidal massacres of Hutus, have never been investigated.
Refugees International joined the Save Darfur Coalition in April to rally against 'genocide' in Darfur. According to the RI 2006 Report "[o]ur supporters joined tens of thousands of human rights activists, movie stars, athletes and politicians who converged on the U.S. Capitol in DC, to show the world we will not stand idly by while genocide unfolds." .....

South Sudan became an independent nation through a peace process championed by successive U.S. presidents but still beset by lingering tensions from years of war.
“A proud flag flies over Juba and the map of the world has been redrawn...the United States pledges our partnership as they seek the security, development and responsive governance that can fulfill their aspirations and respect their human rights” Obama said "South Sudan and Sudan must recognize that they will be more secure and prosperous if they move beyond past differences peacefully"...
South Sudan's sovereign nation status means its black tribesmen will for the first time be linked politically with sub-Saharan Africa where Kenya and Uganda are already laying strong ties with their oil rich northern neighbor that may ship its oil to a Kenyan port, instead of through the pipelines controlled by Khartoum. “From today our identity is southern and African, not Arabic and Muslim,” read one sign...
Southern Sudan will be born one of the poorest countries in the world. It has only a couple dozen miles of pavement and literacy levels are low. But the south does have large oil resources...President George W. Bush put Sudan at the center of his foreign policy in Africa, helping broker a 2005 peace agreement to end a conflict that claimed more than 2 million lives. President Obama rallied international pressure to rescue the accord that risked unraveling. Colin Powell and Susan Rice, who will lead the U.S. delegation at the independence ceremony. UN peacekeepers should leave the volatile border area soon after S. Sudan’s independence...In March, Obama named Princeton Lyman his new special envoy to Sudan helping oversee the creation of an independent Southern Sudan. Lyman will be part of the U.S. delegation at the ceremonies...“I don’t think either side wants to go back to full-scale war...." Lyman said... Sudanese government troops occupied the region in May after clashes with southern police. “That set everything back a long way. We spent weeks on plans for the Sudanese to withdraw from Abyei,” Lyman said. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton helped negotiate an agreement for 4,200 Ethiopian peacekeepers to move into Abyei last month under a U.N. mandate. But the situation remains “extremely volatile,” Rice said in a State Department briefing Thursday... Others representing the U.S. in Juba will include:
—Gen. Carter F. Ham, commander of the U.S. Africa Command [AFRICOM]
—Rep. Donald Payne, D- N.J., the ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights.
—Brooke Anderson, deputy national security adviser and chief of staff for the National Security Council.

Darfur aid dollars funding West Bank settlements
By Thomas C. Mountain, www.onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_5708.shtml
"Darfur Genocide", a myth, or more accurately, a fraud, perpetuated by the Western media and governments along with the pro-Israel "human rights" NGOs to raise over a $100 million. UN and international aid workers involved in the Darfur relief effort are proud that Darfur refugees are the beneficiaries of one of, if not the largest, best run relief works in history...a Western funded genocide is being committed in the Ethiopian Ogaden by the Ethiopian government, but no genocide has ever been committed in Darfur. The whole "Darfur Genocide" campaign is nothing more than a smokescreen to vilify the Sudanese government in an attempt to promote Western military intervention in oil and mineral rich Sudan, Africa’s largest and potentially wealthiest country, as well as to help divert attention from the real, Western-funded genocide being carried out in the Ogaden by the Western cop on the beat in East Africa, Ethiopia.
The brazenness and breadth of this propaganda campaign has even surprised experienced observers of the long, dirty history of aid diversion in the Horn of Africa. Western governments, the UN, the Western media, even Hollywood became part of the act with story lines "exposing" the Darfur "genocide" appearing in dramas such as Boston Legal amongst others....So next time you hear about a campaign to "save" Africans be suspicious and remember just how big a lie was told about Darfur and how your hard earned money ended up somewhere you least expected, helping building Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Israel uses U.S. social media to block peaceful Palestinian solidarity protest
Israel tracked activists on social media sites, compiled a blacklist of more than 300 names, compiled by monitoring organizers' preparations on social networks and websites, and asked airlines to keep those on the list off flights to Israel. Hundreds of police were also deployed at the already heavily fortified Ben-Gurion International Airport...310 activists who managed to land in Tel Aviv were detained for questioning, said Interior Ministry spokeswoman Sabine Hadad, four were immediately put on return flights...including two Americans who were deported... 65 were being held until flights home could be arranged...Hundreds of police were also deployed at the already heavily fortified Ben-Gurion International Airport. Authorities forwarded a blacklist to foreign airlines, preventing scores from boarding their flights, preventing scores from boarding their flights... "accepted practice in any country," Yigal Palmor, a spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry... Defense officials say Israel closely follows organizer activities online. Activists, meanwhile, were sending updates on their progress through Israeli border controls on Twitter. Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said some 200 people were prevented from boarding their flights at airports throughout Europe. "The companies did not allow them on the airplanes because we told them clearly they wouldn't be able to enter Israel," ... the West Bank can be reached only through Israeli-controlled crossings, international airports or the land border with Jordan. Israel bars most Palestinians from entering Israel or using its airport.. the Gaza Strip travel restrictions...are even more rigorous. Israel allows few people to cross its border with Gaza, most Gazans can travel abroad only by crossing into Egypt through their shared border. Israel has not publicized its criteria for denying entry...
