"... November 2001, one of the senior military staff officers had time for a chat. Yes, we were still on track for going against Iraq.. But there was more being discussed as part of a five-year campaign plan, he said, there were a total of seven countries, beginning with Iraq, then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Iran, Somalia, and Sudan."

"There is no going back. The Damascus battle has priority for us. We have started the "Damascus volcano and Syrian earthquake" operation to liberate Damascus"
"There is major coordination between all military councils regarding this. We will not stop, there is no return. "We will hit security buildings." "Our fighters are already deployed in sensitive areas in Damascus. They went knowing they will not leave alive. This is the battle, this is our battle," the FSA officer said.

Syrian Rebels Survive Onslaught in Aleppo
7/29/12 Paul Schemm, http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/M/ML_SYRIA?SITE=CAVIC&SECTION=HOME&...
BEIRUT (AP) -- Syrian tanks and artillery pounded rebel-held neighborhoods in the commercial hub of Aleppo on Sunday in a bid to retake control as President Bashar Assad's regime accused regional powerhouses Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey of trying to destroy the country...The country's military apparatus, though, has remained intact and continues to crush opposition remnants in Damascus and its outskirts...(this line and/or the entire AP/Schemm article published a.m. Seattle Times has been deleted and/or replaced by other versions)

Syria warns of Western disinformation campaign
DAMASCUS - The warning comes as the Syrian army is dealing deadly blows to armed rebels, who have managed to bring battles to the capital Damascus and northern Aleppo province.
Syrian Information Ministry charged Sunday that Western and Arab intelligence parties are planning to hack into the frequencies of the Syrian TVs via the broadcast control stations that exist in neighboring countries to disseminate false news such as a military coup or high level defections ...The ministry warned that a copycat of Syrian state TV with the same logo has been broadcasting since a couple of days ago airing national songs. The Arab League officially asked the satellite operators of Arabsat and Nilesat to stop broadcasting Syrian public or private media. The Arab League has a precedent of media sanctioning to censure Libyan TV... before the US-NATO-backed rebels killed Muammar Gaddafi.

US Authorizes Financial Support to Free Syrian Army
7/28/12 http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article32011.htm
"Al-Monitor " A US group that supports the Free Syrian Army received a waiver last week from the Treasury Department Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) authorizing it to provide logistical and financial support to the armed Syrian resistance. Brian Sayers, of the Syrian Support Group (SSG)told Al- Monitor in an interview Friday...“The OFAC decision is huge,” Sayers said. “It gets us the leeway to support the Free Syrian Army in broad terms.”The Syrian Support Group hired Sayers, who previously spent six years working in NATO operations in Brussels and Kosovo, four months ago to be the Washington agent for the group. With backers from the Syrian exile community in the US and Canada, the Syrian Support Group's goal “has always been to support the Free Syrian Army in different ways,” Sayers said.
In the constellation of Syrian opposition exile organizations and personalities, the Syrian Support Group “sees its niche as providing direct support for the FSA, to stand up the Free Syrian Army as the future Syrian Army. That requires both short term things — financial operations, logistics support, communications— but also long-term support: security sector reform, a training doctrine.”...a Syrian source, speaking anonymously, suggested the Syrian Support Group’s mission is not only lobbying the US to provide support to the FSA, but also to help turn the FSA into an organized entity that could receive intelligence and other assistance from Western security agencies....
However, one figure the FSA is unlikely to support as a Syrian opposition unity leader is the recently defected Gen. Manaf Tlas, who arrived in Turkey on Thursday. Reports have suggested the US is eyeing Tlas... for that role.[note: Brigadier General Manaf Tlass did not just recently defect from Assad's 'inner circle', he became disaffected, considered 'unreliable' and in May 2011 lost his command}

Turkey another major US-NATO proxy
Secret Turkish Nerve Center Provides Aid to Syria "Rebels"
7/27/12 By Regan Doherty and Amena Bakr, "DOHA/DUBAI"
Turkey has set up a secret base with allies Saudi Arabia and Qatar to direct vital military and communications aid to Syria's rebels from a city near the border, Gulf sources told Reuters. News of the clandestine Middle East-run "nerve centre" working to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad underlines the extent to which Western powers - who played a key role in unseating Muammar Gaddafi in Libya - have avoided military involvement so far in Syria ..."U.S. intel are working through middlemen. Middlemen are controlling access to weapons and routes." said a Doha-based source...The centre in Adana in southern Turkey about 100 km (60 miles) from the Syrian border...Adana is home to Incirlik, a large Turkish/U.S. air force base Washington has used in the past for reconnaissance and military logistics operations..."Three governments are supplying weapons: Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia," said a Doha-based source... http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article32006.htm

Syria Uprising: Mossad, Blackwater And CIA 'Led Operations In Homs'
Salim Harba, a Syrian expert in strategic affairs, told Al-Manar the office established: “Under American-Gulf sponsorship includes American, French, and Gulf – specifically from Qatar and Saudi Arabia – intelligence agents, as well as CIA, Mossad, and Blackwater agents and members of the Syrian Transitional Council.Qatar has also made deals with Israeli and American companies to arm the armed groups, and Gulf countries have been financing the agreements.”
The revelations come as the agency reported around 700 Arab and Western gunmen had surrendered in Baba Amr, leaving the region under the control of the Syrian army. Israeli, American and European-made weapons were also seized in the district. According to Harba, the captured gunmen were variously from the Gulf, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, Afghanistan, Turkey and France. The website quoted a source as saying: “Huge and critical surprises will be uncovered in the coming few days… such as the kinds of arms seized, as well as the military tactics the armed groups followed, and the sides that supervised operations.”

The Syrian opposition: who's doing the talking?

A nightmare is unfolding across Syria, in the homes of al-Heffa and the streets of Houla. And we all know how the story ends: with thousands of soldiers and civilians killed, towns and families destroyed, and President Assad beaten to death in a ditch. This is the story of the Syrian war, but there is another story to be told. This is a story about the storytellers: the spokespeople, the "experts on Syria", the "democracy activists". The statement makers. The people who "urge" and "warn" and "call for action".It's a tale about some of the most quoted members of the Syrian opposition and their connection to the Anglo-American opposition creation business. The mainstream news media have, in the main, been passive when it comes to Syrian sources: billing them as "official spokesmen" or "pro-democracy campaigners" without, for the most part, scrutinising their statements, their backgrounds or their political connections....
The Syrian National Council, The most quoted opposition spokespeople are official representatives of the Syrian National Council...not the only Syrian opposition group – but generally recognised as "the main opposition coalition" ... "an umbrella group of rival factions based outside Syria". Certainly the opposition group that's had the closest dealings with western powers – and has called for foreign intervention from the early stages of the uprising. In February of this year, at the opening of the Friends of Syria summit in Tunisia William Hague declared "I will meet leaders of the Syrian National Council in a few minutes … We...will now treat them and recognise them as a legitimate representative of the Syrian people."
Bassma Kodmani, The most senior official SNC official spokesperson is Paris-based Syrian academic Bassma Kodmani. Here is Bassma Kodmani leaving this year's Bilderberg conference in Chantilly, Virginia. Kodmani, a member of the executive bureau and head of foreign affairs, Syrian National Council, is close to the centre of the SNC power structure... "No dialogue with the ruling regime is possible. We can only discuss how to move on to a different political system," she declared this week... and here she is quoted by the AFP "The next step needs to be a resolution under Chapter VII, which allows for the use of all legitimate means, coercive means, embargo on arms, as well as the use of force to oblige the regime to comply. This statement translates into the headline "Syrians call for armed peacekeepers". When large-scale international military action is being called for, it seems only reasonable to ask: who exactly is calling for it? ...
Radwan Ziadeh, another often quoted SNC representative, director of foreign relations at the Syrian National Council, is a senior fellow at the federally funded thinktank, the US Institute of Peace. The USIP Board of Directors is packed with alumni of the defence department and the national security council; its president is Richard Solomon, former adviser to Kissinger at the NSC).
In February, Ziadeh... signed a letter calling upon Obama to intervene in Syria: his fellow signatories include James Woolsey (former CIA chief), Karl Rove (Bush Jr's handler), Clifford May (Committee on the Present Danger) and Elizabeth Cheney, former head of the Pentagon's Iran-Syria Operations Group....
Ausama Monajed, along with Kodmani and Ziadeh, is one of the most important SNC spokespeople...the SNC, a big beast, includes the Muslim Brotherhood -- these are some key SNC voices.
Monajed, adviser to SNC president, is according to his SNC biography , "the Founder and Director of Barada Television", pro-opposition satellite channel based in Vauxhall, south London. In 2008, a few months after attending Syria In-Transition conference, Monajed was back in Washington, invited to lunch with George W Bush, along with a handful of other favoured dissidents (you can see Monajed in the souvenir photo , third from the right, in the red tie, near Condoleezza Rice – up the other end from Garry Kasparov).
At this time, in 2008, the US state department knew Monajed as "director of public relations for the Movement for Justice and Development (MJD), which leads the struggle for peaceful and democratic change in Syria".... Last year, the Washington Post picked up a story from WikiLeaks which published a mass of leaked diplomatic cables showing a remarkable flow of money from the US state department to the London-based Movement for Justice and Development. According to the Post's report: "Barada TV is closely affiliated with the Movement for Justice and Development network of Syrian exiles. Classified US diplomatic cables show the US state department funneled as much as $6m to the group since 2006 to operate the satellite channel and financed other activities inside Syria."...Barada TV gets a large chunk of its funding from an American NGO, the Democracy Council. One of the co-sponsors (with the MJD) of Syria In-Transition mini-conference. So we see, in 2008, at the same meeting, are the leaders of precisely those organisations identified in the Wikileaks cables as the conduit (the Democracy Council) and recipient (the MJD) of large amounts of state department money.
The Democracy Council (a US-based grant distributor) lists the state department as one of its sources of funding. How it works is this: the Democracy Council serves as a grant-administering intermediary between the state department's "Middle East Partnership Initiative" and "local partners" (such as Barada TV). As the Washington Post reports:
"Several US diplomatic cables from the embassy in Damascus reveal that the Syrian exiles received money from a State Department program called the Middle East Partnership Initiative. According to the cables, the State Department funneled money to the exile group via the Democracy Council, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit."
The same report highlights a 2009 cable from the US Embassy in Syria that says the Democracy Council received $6.3m from the state department to run a Syria-related programme, the "Civil Society Strengthening Initiative"..."a discrete collaborative effort between the Democracy Council and local partners" aimed at producing, amongst other things, "various broadcast concepts." "Other cables make clear that one of those concepts was Barada TV."
Until a few months ago, the state department's Middle East Partnership Initiative was overseen by Tamara Cofman Wittes (now at the Brookings Institution thinktank). Of MEPI, she said it "created a positive 'brand' for US democracy promotion efforts" ... "There are a lot of organizations in Syria and other countries seeking changes from their government…That's an agenda we believe in and support." ...
Building legitimacy – of opposition, of representation, of intervention – is the essential propaganda battle. In a February USA Today op-ed, Ambassador Dennis Ross declared: "It is time to raise the status of the Syrian National Council...to create an aura of inevitability about the SNC as the alternative to Assad."
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
The justification for the "inevitable" military intervention is the savagery of President Assad's regime: the atrocities, the shelling, the human rights abuses. Information is crucial here, and one source above all has been providing us with data about Syria. It is quoted at every turn "The head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told VOA [Voice of America] that fighting and shelling killed at least 12 people in Homs province" ..."Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP by phone."...Statistic after horrific statistic pours from "the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights" (AP). It's hard to find a news report about Syria that doesn't cite them. But who are they? "They" are Rami Abdulrahman (or Rami Abdel Rahman)
George Soros... the worlds of banking, diplomacy (propaganda), industry, intelligence, policy institutes and foundations all mesh together...

P.S. About those "Obama chilly relations with Israel"
Obama announced the new military assistance as he signed a bill in the Oval Office in May expanding military and civilian co-operation with Israel. The additional U.S. aid will go to help Israel expand production of the Iron Dome rocket defense system... Obama said the bill underscores the United States' “unshakable commitment to Israel.”

Obama Secretly Sold Israel 55 Bunker-Buster Bombs While Publicly Pressuring Israel Over Settlements

U.S. and Israeli officials tell Newsweek the GBU-28 Hard Target Penetrators—potentially useful in any future military strike against Iranian nuclear sites—were delivered to Israel in 2009, several months after Obama took office. The Israelis first requested the bunker busters in 2005, only to be rebuffed by the Bush administration....Obama’s security cooperation extended beyond bunker busters... Obama gave “orders to the military to ratchet up cooperation at every level with Israel.”

"US intends to deploy MOP on B-2 bombers"
Massive US bunker-buster available, after delays
07/26/2012 By Yaakov Katz http://www.jpost.com/Defense/Article.aspx?id=279062
Facing possible intervention in Syria, Iran strike, the United States announced its largest bunker-buster missile capable of penetrating underground facilities is operational and ready for use if needed. Called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), also known as the GBU-57, said to be able to penetrate around 60 meters, the 30,000-pound bomb – which contains over 5,000 pounds of explosives – was originally designed to take out hardened fortifications in Iran and North Korea...It is unclear how Israel would deploy such a bomb which would not fit onto its current fleet of combat aircraft. The US Air Force intends to deploy the MOP on B-2 bombers which can carry a far larger payload than Israel Air Force F- 15s and F-16s.
