Presidential Election Enters Month of Surprise
9/30/12 NYTimes.com thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/ 2012/ 09/ 30/ now-entering-the-month-of-surprise/
In 2004, Osama bin Laden released a video statement on Oct. 29. Will such a surprise happen again? ...What else could pop up on the world stage in October? More re-evaluations of the terrorist attack that killed the ambassador to Libya? Developments in the Iranian nuclear drama? Dramatic economic collapses in European nations already weakened and teetering? .. there is always the possibility that something happens in October that has no particular relevance to the election, but steals the spotlight...

CIA alleged to have met Bin Laden in July
31 Oct. 2001, by Anthony Sampson, http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2001/nov/01/afghanistan.terrorism
Two months before September 11 Osama bin Laden flew to Dubai for 10 days for treatment at the American hospital...While there he was visited by several members of his familythe CIA. ..also
by Prince Turki al Faisal, head of Saudi intelligence, with long Taliban and Bin Laden links. Soon after Turki resigned, and recently has publicly attacked him in an open letter: "You are a rotten seed, like the son of Noah"....confirmed or not, wider leaks from French secret service throw a worrying light on the rivalries and lack of coordination between intelligence agencies, both within the US and between western allies.

Israeli intelligence: Bin Laden is dead, heir has been chosen
World Tribune
Israeli sources said Israel and the US assess that Bin Laden probably died in the U.S. military campaign in Afghanistan in December. They said the emergence of new messages by Bin Laden are probably fabrications, Middle East Newsline reported.

Al-Qaida leaders killed in US bombing

A CIA-run UAV armed with Hellfire air-to-ground missiles fired on the house US military sources said today... "senior al-Qaida personnel" were in the house but it was not clear whether Osama bin Laden was among those killed. The Pentagon source would not say where the target was. Some US intelligence officials believe bin Laden sought refuge in Oruzgan province.

Bin Laden 'probably' dead
18 July 2002 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/2135473.stm
US Federal Bureau of Investigation counter-terrorism chief, Dale Watson says he thinks Osama bin Laden is "probably" dead...The remarks made at a law-enforcement conference in Washington on Wednesday follow recent statements by the editor of the London-based Al-Quds Al Arabi newspaper, and August Hanning, chief of German foreign intelligence, who said Bin Laden was alive and believed to be hiding in the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan.... Mr Hanning said an estimated 5,000 al-Qaeda operatives still remained in Afghanistan and Pakistan, while others had returned to their countries of origin to plan new attacks...Other US officials told the Associated Press they were surprised by Mr Watson's remarks, as Washington's official position remains that it does not know where Bin Laden is, or whether he is still alive...

The Death of bin Ladenism
By Amir Taheri, http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/11/opinion/11TAHE.html
Osama bin Laden is dead. The news first came from sources in Afghanistan and Pakistan almost six months ago: the fugitive died in December and was buried in the mountains of southeast Afghanistan. Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf, echoed the information. The remnants of Osama's gang, however, have mostly stayed silent, either to keep Osama's ghost alive or because they have no means of communication. With an ego the size of Mount Everest, Osama bin Laden would not have, could not have, remained silent for so long if he were still alive. He always liked to take credit even for things he had nothing to do with. Would he remain silent for nine months and not trumpet his own survival? Even if he is still in the world, bin Ladenism has left for good. Mr. bin Laden was the public face of a brand of politics that committed suicide in New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001, killing thousands of innocent people in the process.

Bush about 2001 'bin laden tape
The recording was dismissed by the Bush administration yesterday as sick propaganda possibly designed to mask the fact the al-Qa'eda leader was already dead. "He could have made the video and then ordered that it be released in the event of his death," said one White House aide.
