Warner Bros. Studio Tour Unveils 'Creators' Workshop' Experience for Behind-the-Scenes Magic

New Interactive Experience Puts Visitors in the Director’s Chair

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood is doubling down on its commitment to immersive entertainment with the launch of “Creators’ Workshop,” a new behind-the-scenes experience that transforms visitors from passive observers into active participants in the filmmaking process.

Starting March 15th, the enhanced tour will include three new interactive stations where guests can try their hand at sound mixing, green screen technology, and practical effects creation—all within the working studio lot that’s been a cornerstone of Burbank’s identity for nearly a century.

“We wanted to give people more than just a glimpse behind the curtain,” said Maria Rodriguez, Director of Guest Experience at Warner Bros. Studio Tour. “Now they can actually step through it and create something themselves.”

Hands-On Hollywood Magic

The Creators’ Workshop occupies a newly renovated 8,000-square-foot soundstage on the studio’s Stage 48, formerly used for sitcom productions. The space has been transformed into three distinct zones, each focusing on different aspects of film and television production.

At the Sound Sanctuary station, visitors work with professional mixing boards to add dialogue, music, and sound effects to iconic scenes from Warner Bros. properties like “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory.” Tour guide Jessica Chen, a Burbank native who studied audio engineering at nearby Los Angeles Film School, demonstrates how the laugh track that made millions smile was actually crafted.

“Most people don’t realize that even ‘live’ studio audiences are heavily edited,” Chen explained during a preview tour. “We show them how those perfectly timed laughs are created, and they get to try mixing their own version.”

The Green Screen Galaxy allows visitors to step into the shoes of actors from major Warner Bros. franchises. Using the same Unreal Engine technology employed in productions like “The Batman,” guests can battle alongside Wonder Woman or explore Hogwarts corridors. The 20-foot LED wall creates realistic backgrounds in real-time, eliminating the need for post-production compositing.

Prop Shop Brings Craftsmanship to Life

Perhaps the most popular addition is the Prop Workshop, where visitors learn traditional moviemaking crafts that predate digital effects. Under the guidance of master prop maker Tony Castellanos, who worked on everything from “Casablanca” to “Dune,” guests create simplified versions of movie props using foam, paint, and weathering techniques.

“There’s something magical about creating with your hands,” said Castellanos, whose workshop is filled with replica props from Warner Bros.’ 100-year history. “Even in our digital age, practical effects and handmade props are still essential to great storytelling.”

Visitors leave with their creations—a small replica of the “Friends” Central Perk sign, a miniature Batmobile, or a weathered piece of “space debris” from a sci-fi production.

Local Economic Impact

The expansion required hiring 15 new full-time positions, most filled by Burbank residents with entertainment industry experience. The studio also partnered with Woodbury University’s animation program to provide internship opportunities for local students.

“Warner Bros. has always been a good neighbor,” said Burbank Chamber of Commerce President Lisa Wong. “This expansion brings more visitors to our city, which benefits restaurants along Magnolia Boulevard and shops in the Media District.”

The enhanced tour is already showing results. Advanced bookings for March through May are up 34% compared to the same period last year, with many visitors specifically requesting the Creators’ Workshop add-on.

Behind the Scenes of the Behind the Scenes

Developing the new experience required coordination with active productions. The studio had to ensure tourist activities wouldn’t interfere with the filming of series like “Young Sheldon” and “All American,” both produced on the lot.

“Scheduling was like a chess game,” admitted Operations Manager David Kim. “But our production teams were incredibly supportive once they saw how excited visitors were to learn about their craft.”

The workshop’s design incorporated feedback from over 1,000 previous tour participants. Exit surveys revealed that guests wanted more interactive elements and deeper insights into technical aspects of filmmaking.

Industry Veteran Perspective

Longtime Burbank resident and retired Warner Bros. cinematographer Robert “Bobby” Martinez, who worked on classics like “Superman” and “Lethal Weapon,” consulted on the project’s development.

“When I started in this business 45 years ago, the magic happened behind closed doors,” Martinez reflected. “Now we can share that magic with everyone. It’s democratizing creativity in a way that would have seemed impossible when I was coming up through the ranks.”

Booking and Access

The Creators’ Workshop is available as a 90-minute add-on to the standard studio tour, priced at $45 per person. The experience is limited to 20 participants per session to ensure personalized attention. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended, especially for weekend visits.

Standard tour pricing remains unchanged at $69 for adults and $59 for children. Burbank residents receive a 15% discount with proof of residency—a perk that’s helped maintain the studio’s relationship with its host community.

Looking Forward

Rodriguez hints that this is just the beginning of Warner Bros.’ expansion into experiential tourism. “We’re already planning our next phase,” she said with a knowing smile. “Let’s just say fans of a certain boy wizard might be very excited about what’s coming this fall.”

For a city that’s grown alongside the entertainment industry, the enhanced Warner Bros. tour represents more than just a tourist attraction—it’s a bridge between Burbank’s storied past and its innovative future, giving visitors a taste of the creative energy that’s defined this corner of the San Fernando Valley for generations.
